If Howie wasn't a GM he would be working as an investment banker for Goldman or Morgan. Other GMs would be high school coaches. That's the difference.

Guess that's why you draft poorly. You count on hired guns on 1 year contracts.
I think the best job Howie has been doing is managing the cap. He got Hurts, Barkley, Smith and AJ Brown, Mailata, Dickerson all locked up for at least 4 years on premium deals. Then you look around the league and you see the Bengal struggle to pay Higgins and Chase, the 49ers struggling to pay Purdy, Deebo and Aiyuk and the Cowboys struggling to pay Prescott and CeeDee.
Rose man is so amazing that he drafted away a third round draft pick to not draft Micah Parsons. Just ponder that
What I don't understand is the way he does it is pretty obvious you get the deals done early so that those later huge cap numbers don't affect your roster and yet nobody else follows his path
@@robertfetrow4612 Eagles were drafting for need in that draft. They had to take a WR in the top10 and they got Devonta.
@@diehardeaglesfansince1994 part of it is identifying the players you need to sign early and get it done. But even if the deals don't workout longterm he somehow figured out to manipulate the language to be able to trade it like the Wentz contract.
@@NPAMike Rationalization is a beautiful thing. Traded away a high valued third round pick to allow your rival draft maybe the best defensive prospect in a decade or two isnt the stuff you build a resume off of.
But because the masses overly dislike the Cowboys we overhype this GM. Its funny to watch especially how he overpaid Wentz far too early just like he did with Hurts.
Last year the Eagles suffered under poor coaching and lack of defensive talent. I like the new coaching hires, our offense is stacked, we’ll see if our defense steps up.
The Cowboys draft was ok I love the offensive line picks, but my Eagles knocked it out of the park Fly Eagles Fly baby!

Solid picks for the Cowboys, no doubt, but I think the Eagles and Commanders did much better.

I read this from someone else but it fits. Howie isnt exactly a football guy, hes an financial analyst. He makes trades based on value with the goal of spending to get more back. Its just its not necessarily monetary value, but football value. He might not understand football value but he can develop a roadmap for what would be value based on what his scouts and coaches tend to pattern towards. I think thats why he does so well in drafts (outside of a few WRs) because he takes best available talent and doesnt need to lose value by unnecessarily trading up. “How does howie keep doing this? Oh hes lucky the top prospect in the position that is the biggest need just falls to him” if it happens 1 time, its lucky. If it happens 2 times, its a coincidence. If it happens 3 times, you have a trend. He must have a good indication that he doesnt need to trade away picks to secure the one hes looking for. When he does trade picks, the lower value of those picks, turn a bigger “profit” in football talent. Take AJ Brown for example, or CJGJ from the saint trade. I can go on.

Jerry at the end of the day isn’t chasing rings as the #1 priority anymore. All he cares about is keeping them seats full, maximizing revenue through sales and being the center of Dallas. It’s a cash cow for him, not a do or die Super Bowl chase. He’s got 3 rings and $14 billion. Cowboys is about the media, which he does well.

The Cowboys aren’t “all in” in the manner most would think. They’re all in with this roster. It appears they’re interested in clearing the books (cap) with reset in mind for 2025-2026. Players like Dak, Lawrence, Martin, Cooks along with letting Tyrone, Pollard go. The draft makes sense through that lens
This is 100% a soft rebuild

Basically had to if they want to resign him, Lamb, Parsons to top of the market contracts and have the flexible restructures within those contracts they’ll need to sign additional players.

He IS ALL IN on a reset to this team. Setting this team up for down the road.
As long as Howie's not picking a WR he's gold. Not only took Reagor instead of Jefferson, but JJ Arciega-Whiteside with DK Metcalf on the board a year ealier. Yeah, the Eagles could be rock JJ and DK.
The Eagles secondary is looking much better now and with depth. Slay, Bradberry, Mitchell, DeJean, CJGJ, Blankenship, Brown, Maddox, Ringo. If Sydney Brown can come back strong from the ACL this is a very solid unit.
Guyton and Bebee will be monsters.
A 3 headed monster on the O line. Smith, Guyton, and Beebe. That's way more important than a RB. No team in recent history has won the Superbowl because they had an elite RB.

The claim that Howie spent the first half of round 1 trying to trade up keeps getting repeated, despite no reports of him trying to trade with any of the teams in front of him coming to light. Usually when a team is trying hard to trade up, specific reports come out about who they made offers to.

Smith and the cowboys center were excellent last year… how exactly did their line get better than last year with two rookies?
I will never believe a G5 CB is the best available in the draft when they are “locking up” inferior competition. DeJean was the best at the position this year and provides an unreal level of versatility and special teams return benefits.
How does Howie keep doing what? They haven't had lots of production from previous drafts outside of Smith and Carter(he tailed off at the end even).
Every year they rely on old players and mid season trades lol

He puts the team in good position with his roster moves(for the most part} ... Especially the past few years. Eagles had good roster, but he's not a player or coach,.. only so much he can do at GM
Dickerson was an all pro, got the Center of the future, finding Mailata in the 7th round, getting Hurts in the 2nd round.

Pilly is always claiming they had the best draft best Fee Agency pick ups you name it. They lost their best OL. The pressure is on them as the Cowboys won the East last year while they faded and lost how many games towards the end of the Season? They were lucky to make the playoffs.
All the Eagles need now is coaching, something they did not have last season.
The Cowboys' RB was spent on acquiring Trey Lance with that 4th round pick.

Howie is doing his job as well as it can be done, whereas the Jones's are determined to continuously draft well. Philly is actively chasing a championship, and Dallas is stuck on stupid.
I would appreciate it if people would stop bringing up Howie passing on Justin Jefferson to draft Jalen Reagor. We get it, he made a major mistake! What GM doesn’t? The thing is he made up for that but drafting Heisman trophy winner Davonte Smith, and trading for AJ Brown.

I'd interpret Jerries 'all in' as more a case of 'at the end of my tether' with these players.
Basically they all have this year to prove they deserve to wear that Star on the helmet, if not they are free to go somewhere else because Jerry isn't going to pay them a dime.
It's a simple premise of making your staff earn the right to represent you, can backfire big time when they refuse to sign after an outstanding year.
I can see Dak walking as he has no draft, no tag clause and a few others will probably not bother trying at all - hoping to get out 100% healthy and ready to roll into a new team.
