    Shower/Bathroom Setup: I know I mention in the video I wasn't bringing my shower/bathroom on these initial couple trips because it's still too cold out, but if anyone wants to see what gear I'm using, you can view it here in my Yellowstone video: ua-cam.com/video/LJdkI-BiHQs/v-deo.html

    you're genius to make the bed smaller to give space for storage. Have not thought of it

    • @bryanhauer
      @bryanhauer  2 роки тому

      Funny enough I went back to a bed that takes up the whole space and now have a cooler in the sub-trunk. I will say for a solo person that was probably the best setup I had, but the mattress I have now (EXPED MEGAMAT AUTO linked in description) is so comfortable and I've also really cut down on the amount of items I bring with me. Back then I was bringing way too many things and now it's just the essentials for each trip.

    That looks fantastic! For northwest/west ideas: Crater Lake is pretty (there's a Tesla charger at the lodge), Mt Shasta is amazing, Redwoods (I want to try camping at Jedidiah Smith Redwoods State Park), and there's a lot of explore in the Olympic National Park (Hoh Rainforest is neat, Ruby Beach is beautiful, lots of hiking, hot springs at Sol Duc). Once the Makah Tribe opens up, Near Bay is beautiful. You could take ferries in WA - maybe go up to the San Juan Islands, or between Coupville (after driving over Deception Pass, where there are lovely photo ops) and Coupville (to get to the peninsula and Olympic NP), or between Downtown Seattle and the peninsula (Bainbridge or Bremerton).

    • @bryanhauer
      @bryanhauer  3 роки тому +1

      Oh the ferries in Washington sounds fun. I think I've seen a few people do that. All those sound great. I've added them to my list. Thank you! What's the best time do you think weather wise for the great northwest?

    • @christinaforsythe1938
      @christinaforsythe1938 3 роки тому +1

      @@bryanhauer The weather here tends to be nice Memorial Day to Labor Day. Less rain and it’s usually not too hot (though we have had some heat waves in the last few years). If you’re going to stay near Sol Duc in the NP, start looking for reservations soon for camping sites. It’s very popular. I’ve thought about stealth camping at Ruby Beach (it has a pit toilet) and taking star photos with the rock formations as a landmark. Not sure if anyone would sweep the parking lot, though. The Forks supercharger is close to Ruby Beach so camping without hook ups (at Ruby Beach or in the NP) would probably require you to stop there beforehand.

    Great content and a cool channel. Love your setup as well. IMHO you should swap sides with bed and gear… balance out the car better with you in drivers seat the cooler and jackery offsets your weight on drivers side plus you can access cooler from drivers seat. Hey, believe me, no criticism here from me, this is great content!! I just bought a 2022 Model Y performance and I’m envying your adventurers!! You’ve got a new subscriber here!!

    • @bryanhauer
      @bryanhauer  2 роки тому +6

      Hey Leon! Thanks so much and congrats on the new Model Y. All good too on the suggestion. I welcome them 😀
      I did actually think about that exact thing, but the issue was that lots of times when I'm "stealth camping", I pull up to a spot, watch tv/UA-cam/Netflix for a bit to observe the area and then slide into the back from the front seat. I wouldn't be able to do that if things were reversed.
      I also thought about it as a security issue. One of my rules is to always keep the front drivers seat clear so if there was ever a weird situation where I needed to jump in the seat and take off that I could and if things were reversed it would be harder due to the angle.
      I typically don't grab food often from the fridge while in the back, but there is enough room now in case I do, but it's usually when I'm camping at a spot and am cooking/grilling outside so then I would just access it from the back left door. Same goes for if I'm grabbing a drink at a rest area. I'd just grab it by opening the back left door.
      When my 7 gallon/each water jugs are filled up those go on the passenger side floor in the back seat and my luggage/camera gear will go on the front passenger side floor so that should help offset some of the weight issues.
      I do appreciate the comment and totally see where you're coming from and again is the same as I thought. What works for one person might now work for someone else. What's funny is once you stay in a small space like this for an extended period of time, you notice all these tiny things that can make or break how comfortable you are and you think of all the ways moving something might break that.
      Anyways... really appreciate you watching and feel free to always suggest something. I love when people do cause it often opens my eyes to different possibilities.

    Hey Bryan, production quality on this video looks awesome! Really looking forward to seeing your adventures this year. I'm taking delivery of a long range Model 3 next week and definitely taking some inspiration from your videos for a future car camping setup.
    If you do end up spending some time in the southeast I'd highly recommend Devils Fork State Park in the upstate of South Carolina. The water on Lake Jocasee is crystal clear and great for kayaking and the park itself is nestled between the hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Out west - Bryce Canyon National Park can't be beat.

      Awesome! Thank you! I go back and forth between setups, but if you watch a few of my new videos, you'll see I now use the EXPED MegaMat Auto as my mattress (it's awesome) and it takes up the whole back area and I now keep a fridge/freezer in the sub-trunk (little spacers used for airflow). I do wish EXPED made a MegaMat Auto in a single though as I do like having one side open for my Jackery, camera/laptop bag etc and do plan to talk with them soon about adding that. I appreciate you watching and let me know if you have any questions as you get traveling. Oh and I'll check out that awning you mentioned too. Thanks.

      Thanks Hans! Agree on the range especially if pulling a trailer. Cybertruck should solve some of that with 500+ miles to a charge although I don't expect costs of EV's to drop much in the immediate future. The look of Cybertruck is also rather polarizing so hopefully other EV makers get SUV's or even Sprinter Vans out soon. Hey Brian, cool setup. You're the Electric Nomad. Have you thought about getting an Ioniq5 or EV6 with AC power built-in? Smart idea to head south for the winter and north for the summer. Moab ROCKS! I'm in St. Augustine FL, and I can put you up for a day. Hit me up.

    • @bryanhauer
      @bryanhauer  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks Johnny - No plans on either of those cars, but they look great. While AC built in is nice (my old 2016 Chevy Malibu Premier had that) I'm able to charge everything from cameras to phones to laptops through the USB-C ports on the Model Y and of course have the Jackery 1500 that has 3 AC ports with 2x100watt solar panels if I need to power things like cooking devices or charge up a bit faster.
      I have an order in for a Cybertruck, but may switch to a Rivian or another brand if some other models come out in the next year or so that are more compelling. I'd prefer something that allows me to do a bit more off-roading so we'll see what is released. Right now... lots of announcements from companies, but let's see if they can deliver actual production. I'd go with the Rivian R1T, but I'm not happy with the range offered currently and I'd like to tow a trailer so their current offering won't cut it. Also no plans to visit FL anytime soon, but appreciate the offer 😀

    I have a 2020 MYLR and I have been towing a t@B 320 the smaller version of the 400. It adds a lot of time to you trip! it is ok for shorter trips but it also depends on where the SC are located. I had to charge at 40% to make it to the next Charger ! I am going to try car camping in three weeks. I do have a small motorcycle trailer/pop up camper because I have heard some campgrounds do not allow car camping. It will be my back up in case they ask or enforce no car camping. The trailer weights around 400 lbs so it should not drain my range. I love ur swing out yakama !

    • @bryanhauer
      @bryanhauer  Рік тому

      Thanks! Yeah, I looked at getting a t@b 400 myself, but was just too much of a battery drain and some of the remote places out west are too far in between Superchargers where I almost can't make it with a cargo box on top although the rear swing out cargo has mostly solved that. For nearby or within state I think it's a great choice, but longer trips it seems to burn about half of the range when towing. As for camping... Nice setup. I don’t see a link to the mattress topper that you put on top of the Tesmat. Do you keep your back seat in? It look like you do because your bed is not completely flat. Have you tried anything to make the bed more flat than it is by default? With the model 3, many people take out their back seat, but in the model Y manual, Tesla says to not take out the back seat.

    I started camping last Summer in my 2020 M3 across the US Eastern Seaboard (up to Acadia). I’m tentatively planning on a 2-mo trip to the Mountain West (from Fort Lauderdale, FL) in July. I love your new setup and I will now remove one panel of my TESMAT mattress and remove my back seat for a lie flat sleep and also purchase an exercise mat. I need to view more of your videos (I’ve now sub’d with 🔔) but was wondering if you boondock or stay at campgrounds? As a solo traveler, I mostly prefer to boondock with the occasional stay at a campground (or hotel/AirBnB).

      @bryanhauer  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Kenneth - Thanks for the sub! I really appreciate it. Sounds like you have a full adventure coming up.
      As for my setup... I'm actually testing a new cooler & bed (full width) this week and should have those videos up in the next 2-3 weeks tops. I love my current setup, but this one might make me change so stay tuned.
      I generally prefer to stay at dispersed camping spots (BLM Boondocking) as there's more room and you can find cool out of the way spots that are a bit more private. I do campgrounds occasionally as well as ones with electrical hookups if I know charging is going to be a pain in a certain area (I did a video on campground charging with a Tesla as well).
      When I'm on the road for multiple weeks I definitely do hotels/Airbnb's probably ever 4 days. That gives me a chance to do laundry, edit videos and just relax/recharge. Check out some of my recent videos from the Grand Canyon and Valley of Fire and I talk about some of this. Feel free to ask any questions as you get ready for your long journey. I'm more than happy to help.

    • @bryanhauer
      @bryanhauer  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Calvin - I think Rivian is great! I love the look & would buy one, but I haven't for two reasons... price (over $100k) & that's too much for a truck that can only tow about 100-150 miles (this has been thoroughly tested by other UA-camrs).
      I'm still not 100% sure I'll get a Cybertruck even though I do have an order in. This is also for a number of reasons, but a few being... who knows when it'll actually come as Elon isn't truthful when talking about products or many other things for that matter, my guess is the price will be drastically higher than announced & I'm not 100% sold the current Supercharging stations will be able to accommodate such a large truck especially if one is towing. The one reason I might still get one is the expected range of over 500 miles per charge. If that ends up being true and one can tow and legitimately get over 300 towing a small-medium sized travel trailer... that will be hard to pass up, but we'll see.
      I also have my eye on the newly announced GMC Sierra Denali (love the exterior look, specs are decent, interior dash is terrible), but that price is also said to be north of $100k. Luckily it seems like we'll have a number of options coming in the next few years.

      For campsites just check the Campendium app or website and you can use the filter to only select ones with either 30amp, 50amp or both and of course regular 110v for cooking, lights etc... Jackery runs deals occasionally and the units are expensive. I wouldn't go below the Jackery 1500 model if you plan to use it to cook. I have links in the Description to their Amazon page and you can usually select 12 or 18 month no interest payments if you have an Amazon Prime credit card. That's probably the best deal where you don't have to fork over everything at once. It also comes with a 3 year warranty from Jackery. Hope that helps!
