The only reason it was winnable in the first place was Missouri’s loss of Nate Noel and Brady Cook. Absent those injuries and the muffed punt by Burden it would have been 31-10 or worse.

The issue is this problem is far deeper than QB play. Thorne is who he is. He is a good guy, but he isn't the answer. Our OL isn't getting it done, and the WRs who need the ball aren't getting it enough. The runs for Hunter need to be more predictable and blocked properly. It's time to not simplify things. It's time to maximize our talent and give some new guys a chance.
It was malpractice that HF kept PT after last season.

I'm so sick of hearing how great a recruiter HF is, apparently everyone has figured out his offense and if you don't have a couple of go to plays that will work against any defense then you don't have an offense, look at Army and how successful they are with mostly 2 stars or some kids that have no stars running the same basic plays over and over and teams still can't stop them, on that point NIL is poisoning the game and none of the military academies get NIL money, duh

I've been on the CHF train since the beginning. And don't forget, there were a lot of fans who wanted him at Auburn. I still believe him when he says, "Payton gives us the best chance to win." And no one can complain about his abilities to recruit good players. But the questions now are, can he coach, can he make good "in game" decisions, can he call the right plays, can he hire the right assistances, can he win at this level. I think he has a little over 13 months to answer those questions. For the first time in my 69-year life, I cannot say it's great to be an Auburn fan. This sucks.
Hugh Freeze isnt the play caller. Nix and Austin are the play callers. I've been a fan since the Iron Bowl in 82 and I'm right where you are, this sucks.

It sickens me to see Thorne with a C on his chest. Just sickens me.
The sad thing is, it seems like we could be undefeated in reality right now. Maybe UGA was an outright loss but at the same time, if we’d scored a couple times it may have taken their momentum away. The sad fact is we have horrible play calling from Freeze to go along with just horrific time management on his part. Our offense is killing our defense because of the terrible play calling. Our offense consistently goes out there and goes 3 & out in 45 seconds or so. And that’s killing our defense that hasn’t had a chance to catch their breath. That’s all on Freeze. It’s time to accept the way the current season is, and look to the future and start benching PT and putting Hank and maybe White in to gain that most valuable thing which is live game experience. Not sure how many games White has left to keep his redshirt but I’d max him out this year just to give both guys the ability to translate game experience over.

@@Mr.C901 I was saying basically that had we had a semi-decent QB and solid offensive play calling, that we could be undefeated or maybe that UGA game was a solid loss outright. We looked pretty solid in every game we’ve lost until about the midway part of the 4th quarter when we normally give up the ghost. And all of that goes directly onto piss poor QB play and really lousy coaching and calling on the part of Hugh Freeze. As it stands right now, we’ll probably play Kentucky tight, get our ears waxed by Vandy, quite possibly eat a major L with ULM and then who knows what TAMU will bring. And of course you never know how the Iron Bowl will shake out. Bama probably has 2 more losses prior to the Iron Bowl themselves. Mizzou and LSU will paste them, and Oklahoma will probably play them tight.

@@Mr.C901 🤣🤣🤣 well we, in our infinite wisdom, gave that fool a 7 year, $6.5M per year contract in 2022. And the buyout is only $20.1M on December 1st if I remember right. Pretty sure the rest of college football is safe from him infecting their programs for another year or so. Unless he finishes with an L to ULM which I’ve been saying since we lost to Arkansas is quite possible.
I really think if we had a better QB situation, our offense would stay on the field a bit longer which would give our defense a chance to catch their breath or limit their exposure of being as weak as they truly are. Our offense has been just killing our defense with 3&outs in about 45 seconds all year long.

Was born in 1952, both parents were WWII Vets and used their GI bill to attend Auburn University. The point I have been a fan since I 1956. Point is I have supported with donation to the program over the many years. I have to say this is just bad coaching. I am not calling to fire Freeze but he needs to find a staff that knows how to coach their position. This team looks like a bunch of soft girls on the field, no disrespect to the girls/women in sports. Thorne is a waste of time now. Retire him and let him walk the sidelines. I have one question who do you develop a QB you recruit when portal QBs and use them?

You’re right. It basically all comes back to a lack of coaching and disciplined play at this point. Freeze is showing what many of us have said all along…he’s LOST! It’s telling when he keeps saying things that point to us having to have perfect situations in order to succeed. That tells you he doesn’t know how to coach in an imperfect world which is what we actually have. And some genius decided to give that fool a 7 year deal right out the gate! WTF!

He’s a Cadillac or Kerryon type runner that is meant to just blister with speed. We don’t have a true between the tackles back except maybe Cobb. Honestly, and this sounds crazy, but I think Fairweather could serve as a hand the ball off type FB and run between the tackles and he’s got the talents to punish the guys that hit him.

COACHING COACHING COACHING…it’s not a lack of talent. The only team that we have played that has more talent is GA. Oklahoma, Cal, Ark, Mizzou are not good teams. We got out coached in each game.
Indiana, BYU, Pitt, and Iowa State don’t have more talent than Auburn, but all are 6-0. Why? COACHING.

Totally willing to be told I am biased (mizzou fan), but it doesn't feel to me like Auburn had anything at all to do with the outcome of this game. The lead was due to a busted coverage and a muffed punt. This would have been about Mizzou losing if the comeback didn't happen, because Auburn didn't really participate in the outcome. I look at it like Auburn was a better team than Missouri’s team without the Mizz starting qb. Your qb is a play maker which Auburn qb is not. I think that if ur qb didn’t get hurt and played the whole game; Missouri would have won by 20 pts easily.

Coaching: Situational ,red zone play calling etc is awful. Player choices as far as who’s on the field and who’s getting the ball in critical situations is awful.
Players: Juniors/Seniors mostly all have loser mentality sans a few. Minimal talent and zero fire/heart. A lot of portal misses. I know there are other problems but Thorne is just not a winner. You can see it in his face/demeanor in pressure moments. Other problems but it is the most important position on the field to have a guy who is this bad.
You said it - PT isn't the reason we lost but he is a LOSER. He is not a winner. He doesn't care - not competitive enough. Nice kid, doesn't have "it ". Why does Auburn have to settle for that BS. And he is paid to be our leader.....

Game planning sucks. He fails to keep the defense on its toes when calling plays. You got rid of the offensive coordinator last year but we are still having the same problem. I just think freeze is not who he say he is.
The only wins left in this season is too play and teach the freshman and sophomores. Don’t count on winning this season equates to winning games. It can only be recruiting and getting our young guys on the field as much as possible
Part of the reason why Auburn collapses every 4th quarter is because any time they get late into a game with a lead, the coaching staff starts getting real conservative on offense and nothing gets done on offense. If they don't do that, then Thorne will start making mistakes and chokes the game away. Either way, the offense loses the game.
True and the solution was to sit PT after the cal game never let him play again but CHF didn’t do it.

Hugh Freeze is a great recruiter! Liberty Head Coach Jamey Chadwell took that talent from Hugh’s two consecutive 8 wins seasons and turned it into a 13-1 team his first year and undefeated season so far this season.
What no one talks about is portal source - what programs are we getting guys from? The majority of our portal starters were brought in from FIU, Duke, GA State, Ark State, Miss State, Tulsa, Indiana, Cal, App State - traditional small-time, losing programs. And we’re shocked these guys don’t know how to win?
I do not think qb is the only problem... but... IF auburn had above average qb play, I cant help but feel like the record would likely be at least 5-2

Red zone playcalling is abysmal
In all honesty it’s abysmal out side the red zone. For the first time last week they implemented the offensive plays I’ve been screaming for them to do. Unfortunately all but one resulted in a td where they where in the red zone.Where they insatiably ditched the play calling and returned to the incredibly moronic red zone offense and play calling.I’d give anything to talk to Freeze and have him listen and not just ignorant ignore me.
Start Walker White. Look at how many teams are running with a freshmen QB. Other teams are doing it. Season has been over.

This is why there are better QB's on the roster and to come. Point noted that Thorne doesn't win games he does not lose games( he's not s pressure oriented QB which is detrimental). Freeze can keep these recruits and the QB next year will define the season as the QB this year has defined the season( QB can't perfom under game pressure- team can't perform under game pressure.
At 2:34, "are we going to find a way to lose this?" My son was so excited when AU was on the lead and was thinking AI was going to win. I try not to dash people's hopes, but in the case of AU, I live in realville and told him to wait and curb his enthusiasm to because AU has a loosing spirit and that AU had plenty of time to find a way not to win. Sad but true. On another note, my wife was so glad that bama lost. Isn't it a shame that the AU program is so bad the fans have to get joy from some other team getting beat. I fear that AU is about to start getting invitations to other college's homecoming games.
Sorry but Payton still lacks confidence and makes bad decisions, they do need a QB that can take them down the field with confidence. Hank is his guy too, he recruited him at Liberty and brought him to Auburn, give him a shot again
I would see how anyone with zero football IQ might be convinced that’s the fix, in all honesty and sincerity it would make things worse and the qb isn’t even the problem. Read the comment I left. I gave a summary of the problem and the easy fix. Something any multi million dollar career coach should know, yet somehow doesn’t.
Why is it that no one is talking about the line of scrimmage? We miss blocks constantly when run blocking and pass blocking. Our skill players don't get enough time to even use any of their skill. Thorne isn't great so I'm not defending him, but if we had Georgia caliber line of scrimmage, he would look considerably better. Hunter had so many carries for not that many yards, if the line blocks better he gets further. I don't understand why everyone is so scared to criticize the o-line at all. We complain about literally every other person on the team, and somehow they escape all criticism.

It’s all Freeze. When we had 1st and goal on the ten, instead of doing what got you to the ten, you pass pass pass with PT. That’s what lost us the game. It’s on coaching and play calling. Unfortunately, 3-9 if we’re lucky.

I understand how anyone with low football IQ would make that assumption, but you’re wrong. Read my comment I just left pertaining to Auburns legitimate yet easily fixable issue. The problem is coaching, not Thorne. Does Thorne make mistakes. Yes’ but very few if not all of them are a result of the doomed absurd offense he’s being forced to run.
Lack of depth is hurting Auburn on the defensive side of the ball, and lack of confidence is hurting on offense. Hugh gets a lead and has to sit on it and play “not to lose” football due to lack of trust in the QB position, lack of effort in the WR room, and teams load the box to stop the run…so you see it coming every game. I think HF will just have to bite the bullet and call shots and be aggressive on offense in the 3rd and 4th quarter., and see what happens.

It is fathomable that somehow Auburn puts together a competent game and ends up, beating a team like Kentucky yet underwhelms and loses to Louisiana-Monroe at home. Not a prediction, but an observation because of the absurdity of Auburn football.
I noticed there’s a pattern of people trying to save Payton Thorne when he clearly needs to be benched. These commentators try to talk him up, but he’s not learning or progressing.

You’re right Zach, Nick Marshall and Cam Newton were the last two playmakers at qb for Auburn. Who both put the team on their backs in crucial clutch moments. What Daprich missed, was that those two had horrible supporting defenses, but they did have at least one elite defensive lineman on those teams.Stidham had one of the best defenses in the SEC backing him up in 2017. He didn’t need game winning drives to beat Alabama and Georgia, because the defense dominated both of those games. Stidham was a good college quarterback, but Marshall and Newton were GREAT college quarterbacks.

Darrell, those A&M players are upperclassmen now, not freshmen and sophomores. That’s a bad take as Auburn’s underclassmen are the only ones making plays, but they’re still young.
Congratulation Auburn, you succeeded in snatching a defeat from the jaws of victory after three quarters of the opposing team desperately trying to hand you a win. Even if Missouri’s quarterback would have purposely thrown interceptions to our defense Auburn would have still found a way to lose. I honestly feel if it would have been possible for the opposing team coaching staff to have prepared Auburn’s team the week prior and doing the game I think Auburn would have beat California, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and probably gave Georgia a closer game because I like this years Auburn roster more than last years roster. (#1) Auburn coaching staff coach like they are more scared of losing than they are hurry to win. (#2) They will get a one or two touchdown lead and then they will focus too much on staying on the field and burning the clock instead of getting another touch down. If they continued to extend their lead would force the other team to take more chances trying to catch-up They don’t play the lesser “cup-cake” schools with that same mindset and the results reflects that. The game of football has a lot of “gamesmanship” and mind play in it. You see that the way some of the defensive players are allowed to move around and show different looks before the ball is snapped. (#3)Payton Thorne biggest problem is he still telegraph his passes by staring at his intended receiver too long before he throw the pass. Halve of the defensive team know where he is going to throw the ball before he throw the pass.

Look anyone who’s an Auburn fan NEEDS to hear and understand this. THE PROBLEM WITH AUBURN IS BOTH OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE PLAY CALLING AND SCHEMES! THAT ABSOLUTELY FALLS ON THE COACHING STAFF! IT IS ABSOLUTELY NOT PAYTON THORNE AND IM TIRED OF HEARING OUR MORONIC FANS WHO UNDERSTAND NOTHING ABOUT THE GAME OR COACHING STRATEGY. The most maddening and frustrating part about this is it’s all an incredibly fast and easy fix, but for the life of me I can’t understand why week after week nothing changes and they keep up the same insanity going ALL THE WAY BACK to last season!
The problem our coaches are coaching these extremely complex offensive and defensive schemes. Especially on Payton! The fix is easy: Simply call in have the offense run designed run or pass plays! What we’ve done for the past two years hasn’t fooled anyone. Definitely doesn’t fool me. You can tell Payton he has the option to pull the ball, but only when the defense is getting to Hunter and our other back’s, because they’ve blown through the line and our anticipating the handoff to him. Give him the the ability to audible and call hot or go route’s only when he the defense is in a coverage that allows it. Stop having Payton run the ball taking unnecessary contact risking putting the ball on the ground. Stop this this stupid absurdity of putting Hunter and other backs in gun having him taking the snap! Stop designing so many plays with routes and giving Hunter the green light to throw to them. Most picks occurs on throws to the middle of the field.
The point of the game and offense has success when you keep the defense on their heels trying to guess run or pass. Auburn has to work in quick screen and bubble routes in with their handoffs to Hunter and other backs between the tackles. You won’t gain huge yards, but you’ll easily move the chains and cause the defense to start coming in. That’s when you call a designed play with a go route, deep post and wheel route for the massive big yard plays or td’s. You also have to give Payton a check down route to Hunter and other backs on designed pass plays. You have to brainwash him to always hit that check down when his first reads or options aren’t there. Don’t try to scramble and definitely don’t take the sack.
I won’t lie for the first time last last week I saw what what I’m talking about utilized on the successful drives we had, but when we didn’t have the td; only getting inside or deep in red zone; they then suddenly resorted to that same disastrous poorly designed play calling calling again, which sabotaged our ability to score td’s! We started to yesterday setting up 3rd and long situations only to rush 3 giving a talented qb and wr’s all the time to in the world to find space, get open and have an accurate pass to him. On those 3rd and long you rush the passer and leave a qb spy to keep the qb who avoids the rush the ability to run for the first. I could go into more detail and examples of things they’re doing that are dumb and reckless, but this is all football 101 football iq stuff million dollar coaches should know! It’s driving me crazy and I wish there was a way to talk to Freeze, remind, and have him realize he would be undefeated right now if he made these simple adjustments.

Qb is the answer. All you have to do is look at Vanderbilt, Missouri etc. in this case it’s freeze not sitting Thorne and playing other qbs. Saban sit Jalen Hertz’s for a true freshman.

Is there a Division 1 school that would take Thorne and start him? He is not the only problem but with parity in todays game where the margin of error or success is so small you must have the most important position on the field be at least average and even that won’t get you much. The critical error Freeze made with Thorne as the guy is at the heart of our problems. Are we now going to play out the string with a senior QB not having any idea if our 3 other “recruited” QB’s can play? Razorback fan here: If Freeze is let go this year or even next year, please do not go after Rhett Lashlee! I am hoping he will come back to his Alma Mater and be the next Hog HC. What he has done as the HC at SMU in 3 years is remarkable! Last year SMU finished 11-3. They have only had 11+ wins 3 times in their 107 year football history. They are 6-1, 3-0 in their first year in the ACC and currently tied with Miami and Clemson. Their only loss was to undefeated #13 BYU 15-18 in the first game of the season. Please, please, I am begging AU not to go after Lashlee!!

Do any of you commentstors understand that the reason we are losing football games because of Peyton Thorne. He has no clue out there. Never steps into a pass through, never makes good RPO decisions, most of his throws are rushed off his back foot, misses open receivers and on and on. Always looks confused out there and he needs to go now. Get the other guys in there with being 2-5. And Jarquez needs to get more passes out on the flat so he can run out in open and make something happen. And where are more of the down field passes to Cam or even a quick pass to these good receivers and let them run. Its really sad coaches cant see all this and they keep burying themselves in bad play and the wrong quarterback. War Damn Eagle!

For the last two weeks, fans have been begging for more Jarquez. Well, you got it and he didn't deliver. Now everyone is going to clamor for Hank. He ain't "Him" - we don't have a QB on the roster now and that is on Hugh Freeze. He missed on Cam Ward. Should have paid the money. And if that wasn't possible, he should have signed Diego Pavia. Thinking it was ok to go into the season with these guys (Hank Brown/Peyton Thorne) was a huge miss.
