This movie literally means the world to me.
Not long after my mum passed in 2018 I met my then girlfriend (now my wife) who is Mexican. This was the first movie that we watched together and it made me cry because all I could think of was my mum's passing.
She was so sweet to me and cuddled me. Then she said if I had a picture of my mum so she could put it on her ofrenda so she could honour her on Día de Muertos (which was only a week away from when we watched the movie). I just melted that she would want to do that.
Now that we are married, we always make up our own ofrenda every year and celebrate Día de Muertos. It's a beautiful tradition that we happily celebrate every year together and watch Coco
In a way this movie brought us closer together in our early stages of our relationship and I don't know what I'd ever do without the live of my life by my side, and for all that, this movie will always have a special place in my heart.
Thank you for sharing such a beautiful story. Love how movies help us connect, and get us through hard times. ✨💛
When Imelda says "So what if it's true!? You leave me alone with a child to raise and I'm just supposed to forgive you!?" She's talking about the original decision Hector made to go on the road playing music with Ernesto, before he had the change of heart.
Yeah, but his initial decision wasn’t to walk out in his family. He was supporting his family. Maybe I’m reaching, but I get the feeling that maybe Imelda was jealous that he was playing and she couldn’t sing because of coco.
@@angelaroberts3563 I doubt she was jealous lol. She could sing to Coco anytime she wanted. Hector probably kept pressuring her to let him go on the road and make some money and she relented. They said in the movie his letters stop coming, and weeks turned into months then years and Imelda lost faith in Hector.
@@angelaroberts3563 It wasn't really supporting his family--he'd only be making money if he ended up successful, and even then he'd have to get the money back to them (and that's not even mentioning all the parts of raising a child that don't require money so much as a person physically there to take care of them). He did indeed leave his wife and child to fend for themselves until he got back, even if he fully intended to return.
Personally I don't believe she was jealous; I think Imelda was telling the truth that she wanted to raise a family instead of chasing fame.
@cam She also had all this time pass, both in life and death, where she thought Hector had just abandoned her and Coco. That's an awful part of grieving to get stuck in. Even though she finds out the truth, it's not as immediately simple as "boom, I'm over it."
I like the idea of pausing the video to make predictions that turn out so wrong. It is what Pixar wanted you to think. Also it is nice to see when someone "gets it" before the actual reveal.
Not gonna lie I fully expected the circus clown music and clown makeup with the emoji to showing up as Kofi was finally trusting Ernesto just to be played like the rest of us 🤡😭
Dante is from the hairless dog Xolo breed. The Aztecs believed that the God of death and the Underworld Xolotl made the Xolo dog breed to guide the souls of the dead through the underworld so they get to Mictlan our souls final resting place safely. The Aztecs also used the Xolo dogs as bed warmers because they were hairless so they wouldn’t have ticks or other insects. Another mythological aspect to the Xolo dog breed is that carvings and paintings of the Xolo dog are found in Aztec ruins and they also look identical to the Egyptian God Anubis who is the same God for Egyptians as Xolotl the God of death was for the Aztecs.
Xoltl dios de la muerte y el inframundo?? Claro que no, la ciudad a la que van nuestros difuntos es el Mictlán cuyo Dios es Mictlántecuhtli y su esposa Mictlántecihuatl
9:15 the ofrenda is what you give to the dead as a gift when they visit on the day of the dead, like fruit, food, drinks, flowers, candy. The altar is the shrine where you put the pictures, candles, ofrenda, etc.
this is definitely one of the best twist villains in any movie i've seen. not too unpredictable to the point where it didnt feel unrealistic, but still came as a shock, especially with all the layers it had! first the "ernesto is miguel's great-great-grandfather" twist, then turning out he's a bad guy, then turning out he's not even the grandfather!
Right! Like layers on layers. Great third act!
"I like ernesto he seems like a good person"
*yeah about that*
If it makes you feel any better, literally everything about Ernesto's appearance was designed to make him appear as friendly as "grandfatherly" as possible, according to the director. Whereas Héctor's overly-skinny, angular "rat like" appearance subconsciously makes you want to trust him less, so you were meant to fall for it
Yea appearances have always been deceiving . Ernesto was literally the Mexican Elvis. His white-silver clothing & charming personality matched his shining celeb persona, until he dropped the charade and felt like Miguel could jeopardize his fame & image. Him and hector are both handsome, tho lol
I've seen around 6 different reactions to this movie, and only 2 (including this guy) didn't see it coming; the others guess hèctor was the great great grandfather very fast, but I think that's just because they were being hyper aware of movie tropes more than anything.
@@HamazuraGOD I knew it quikly, but I honestly wish i didnt, it seems way more fun to find out with the characters.
@@mchouseboat3405was it because Miguel’s family never said his name and only referred to him as “that man” or “that musician” or was it because when Ernesto started to give Miguel his blessing, the petal didn’t glow, showing they’re not related
@@ju2545 well it’s not the petal, since that wouldn’t be early in the movie😅(I also didn’t notice the petal until someone pointed it out to me, I completely missed that detail). It indeed was the “that man” “that… musician”. Plus Hector clearly being a musician himself.
It also helped that twist villains were rather popular in the movies I had watched prior, so when it even slightly alluded to it, I came to the conclusion rather quickly.
This is the best reaction I’ve ever seen to the film. The respect, the memorization, the diligence, the grasp onto the film… I applaud you. You’re amazing.
So kind! Thank you. 🙏
Great reaction. One point-Hector never told Emelda he was murdered because he himself always has believed he died of food poisoning. So as far as Emelda was concerned, Hector left and never came back, and she banned music and even the mention of his name from the family. Even so, Hector never had a chance to explain to Emelda in the afterlife because she basically kept the ban even in death. When Hector and Miguel are rescued, that is actually the first time they’ve seen each other since they’d been alive.
*Imelda
It’s hinted that he tried to talk to her but she didn’t want to hear it
She said “How many times must I turn you away?” She didn’t see him in life again after he left so he must’ve tried to talk to her in death
“You better get that note!”… record scratch* hold up ☠️
Ok, one thing that I absolutely love about this movie is that Ernesto is clearly modeled after Pedro Infante. But I also appreciate that they didn't literally use him because there are still a lot of fans of him who wouldn't take kindly to him having supposedly murdered someone. But it just added such an element of familiarity to this movie that after I watched this movie with my family, we played Infante's music in the car XD
Kofi: “I like Ernesto” 😁
Me: “oh just you wait🙃🤪”
Lol 😂
COCO Song Rankings! Enjoy The Vid!

2. Proud Corazon
3. Un Poco Loco
4. La Llarona
5. The World Es Mi Familia
6. Remember Me (Ernesto De La Cruz /: )
7. Everybody Knows Juanita
What about Llarona? The song mama imelda sings? I have a real soft spot for it
@@RubyMadigan Thanks! I knew I was forgetting one. I added it!
Great list!
BTW, it's "Llorona" :)
This is one of the first movies I remember seeing in the theaters and I specifically remember crying my eyes out in the theater
Having had time to think about it, I can never discount the experiences a person might have had. For instance, this Abuela here was old enough to know her own grandmother, Mama Imelda. What did she see when she was young and Imelda was still alive? The sadness that must have crept into her face every time she heard music or seeing moments of weakness as Imelda might cry at night in the dark when she thought no one was looking. Or even how it effected her own mother Coco. Growing up with all this must have hardened Abuela's resolve against allowing music that we see early in the film. That is what I believe. The way you see a person in a moment doesn't tell the whole story of how they became the way that you see them. Encanto explored this better.
And there is also the fact that Elena is losing her mother. You can tell how much she loves her and how close they must have been by the tenderness in Elena's voice when she speaks to Mama Coco. I'm sure that pain also helps to harden her against music which, like you said, taught her pain in her childhood.
@@chiheart1980 not just harden her against music in general, but against her seemingly deadbeat ass granddaddy . I’m sure she was like “how tf could this mf abandon these two lovely women who’s always been there for him and loved him?”
YES! FINALLY! I FOUND A FUN PERSON WHO IS SMART WHEN REACTING TO AMAZING MOVIES! this is literally the first video I've seen on your channel and i paused to make this comment expressing joy! A lot of the other movies reactors don't point out smart details! Love it!❤️
Aww! Thank you so much. 💛
This is the most insightful reaction to this movie that I've ever seen
So kind! Thank you.
It was extremely difficult for the animators to design the Land of the Dead
I’m sure! They did beautiful work!
The only Pixar/Disney movie twist villain that actually shocked me
how sweet are you!? eyebrow game on fleek too~ such a genuine reaction to a pure movie. Going to watch some more of your reactions now!
It’s a wonderful movie and talking about the importance of breaking the cycle of family trauma!
Hector never told Imelda because he didn't know that he had been murdered. He only found out this evening when Miguel told him about the same "scene" playing out in Ernesto's movie. Hector died before Ernesto became a huge star. Imelda was already angry at Hector because he left her alone with a child so that he could go with Ernesto in pursuit of stardom, which we find out was really Ernesto's dream all along, not Hector's. That is why he decided to go back to his family but he never made it. He died thinking he just suffered "bad luck" (food poisoning). Imelda & especially Coco never heard from him again. They thought he had abandoned them completely, cutting off all contact (no more letters). They had no idea that he was actually dead. That's why she was so angry & hurt, thinking he had betrayed her & also broke Coco's heart...
Side note: your eyebrows look heavenly!
Side note: Thank You! 😌😇
Kofi: (admires Ernesto and instantly wants to be like him)
Me: hmm, just as planned
I watch all of your reactions, when I'm waiting for the next one or just need a pick me up I rewatch some faves, this being one of them. Love your energy, predictions and reactions in general. You're an absolute diamond in the rough. Thank you 😁
This comment was just what I needed Thank you! 🙏
Keep in mind that HECTOR is on the movie poster, not Cruz. Also, why in the hell was Cruz traveling around with poison?? What kind of person does that?
Actually in the days before regulations many, many common items, even clothing and cosmetics were made with chemicals that were extremely toxic if ingested. Most people had sense enough not to ingest, for instance, hair tonics. Even now medicines can be toxic is too much is consumed. Forsomeone to have a toxic chemical in their case THAT long ago was not out of the ordinary.
This my favorite animated films of all time... forget animated...its one of my favorite films of all time. As awesome as this was...when you watch it in Spanish it goes to a whole other level....it was so embarassing when I cried my eyes out. Until th lights came on and ever other adult had also been crying.
I love your reactions so much 💕 this channel is my safe place 🤺

Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching
everyones always so upset with imelda for being upset with hector but she's upset that he left in the first place, especially with a child to raise on her own in mexico,, she switched up about it way sooner than i feel like other people wouldve too tbh but i love her
(ALSP NOT THAT YOU WERE BUT THE PEOPLE IN THE COMMENTS OF SOME OTHER REACTOR WERE SO ANGRY ABOUT IT)
I relate to that back and forth with trust way too much. XD Good to know I'm not alone!
Yeah, you should've watched Coco before Encanto. A major fan complaint with Coco (and I was one of them) was that Imelda was never called out for her actions. The response we always got was, "One does not simply call out the matriarch of a Latino family." Well, then Jared Bush came along, drew his pen, invoked the mighty trope known as Calling the Old Woman Out (forged from the shards of Grew a Spine), and dramatically stated, "For Miguel," before charging at the hordes of Generational Trauma. And that's how we got Encanto. So you're basically watching growth and healing in reverse. It's like reading the Chronicles of Narnia for the first time ever, but in chronological order instead of the correct publishing order, and wondering why CS Lewis is telling you that you have no idea who Aslan is anymore than the Pevensie children do, when you just read a whole book about how Aslan created Narnia.
Princess and the Frog has a great dad
🤣. love you thank you for sharing your reaction. 🌹
Glad you enjoyed it! Cheers
Firstly loved the reaction! And secondly, what nice eyebrows and such smooth looking skin!
3:44 look on the right, you can see woody & buzz toys hanging above one of the stalls! 😁

Thanks Hector!
You got it! He killed Hector. Hector is Miguel’s great-great grandfather.
2:54 did you recognize the vehicle that drove past the window ... it was the Pizza Planet truck from Toy Story?
Brought to you by Pixar starring Miguel who is the son of a family of shoemakers who have banned music of any kind
Yes...thats the plot
You absolutely hit it: this movie does deal with generational trauma.
I love this movie and I love Youuu 💝💞💗
This movie was directed by Pete Doctor
Segun la creencia es q para el dia de muertos ..nuestros familiares vuelven y estan con nosotros ese dia.por eso ellos trataban de ir al mundo de los vivos ese dia y solo no vuelven los q ya no son mas recordados por sus afectos.
