Damien, absolutely the best online instructor to date ! You keep it as clear and simple as possible, also just a likeable ' fun, positive dude! thank you for all you valuable info and stoke! mike
Thanks Damien! Great tip with the push on the back hand before letting it go. That makes the wing flip nicely. Exactly what I was missing. Tried a tack for the first time this morning, watched this video at lunch and landed both toe and heel side tacks this afternoon. Thanks to this. Super stoked. And yes, toe side is easier for sure.
Damien -- I recently tried to tack (heel side) after watching your vid. I practiced the wing control on land first, then went for it a whole bunch of times. I actually landed 4 tacks that session! Well, kind of. I got the board pointed straight upwind. It stopped, then sank and the foil rested on the mud. I quickly switched feet and grabbed the wing and started going the other direction. I'm gonna call that a success! Next time I try it in deeper water! Thank you!
Thank you all for sharing your knowledge on this channel. I bought my first rig last year, and have had a blast learning this sport. Been watching yours and other peoples channels and just wanted to say thanks to you and everyone else pushing this sport forward. I recently managed to do gybes, and next up is start working on tacks, so this was just what I needed. Thanks & have a great summer! 🤙
Great videos! Thanks allot!. Nailed both the tacks within less then a year. Having tons of fun with this sport. Currently trying jump tricks. Windsurfer 20+ years. I had a hard time in the beginning without any foil experience. Now all is "clicking".
Me too, it makes so much sense. I'm looking forward to some windy days to blast round the streets and up hills. On water i've glued a second fin on an iSup (middle of board / dagger fin) to practice and explore. Towing on a foil behind a boat when possible.
Wikid vid! Very helpful. Love the ending to if not sure about throwing your self into winging just do it. Same with a pretty girl you will never know if you dont go try to talk to her. Rad bro
Hi Damian Icône from Guadeloupe à french island not so far from Fmorida. I réalité wanna thx you for your great vidéo and the spirituel that you bring in ich of them. It helps me a lot in m'y progression. Keep on this way Jim
You alluded to it in your video. For most riders when tacking it is easier to go from Palm Down front hand to Palm Down (new front hand) as you deomonstrated in your video. Opposite is true for gybing (Palm Up to Palm Up) Maybe in one of your next videos you can show how to switch your grip (Palm Up or Down Front Hand) before a transition. Great informative productions, Keep them coming!
Great point, As I am riding I get my speed up and crack oft a little down wind so there is less pressure in the wing and I switch my front hand as the pressure is less in the wing then I get back on tack and crank into the wind to start my tack.... Hope that helps...
I found it helpful to flip the wing around by pushing on the leading edge tube with the back hand, as soon as it flips into the new side you shift from holding the leading edge to the front handle
Hi Damo, Bit advance for me at present as only been winging 3 sessions now, but one for the locker later on down the line, keep up positive vibes & VT there great, Matthew Portland, Weymouth UK 🇬🇧 😀 👍 Winging Hard but I'm keep going out there hopefully crack it soon, June not a good wind month for uk but fingers crossed for some good breeze soon. 👊
Love the videos. Thank you for the inspiration. Only been out on the foil once due to schedule but I should have some more free time soon. It would be awesome if you could do a video about wind dynamics and ideal conditions for a beginner. For example I live in Palm Beach and from my understanding it is ideal to basically have winds coming onshore from the east so that in theory I could cross the wind going north and south. I’m regular foot so the other day we had a northeast wind and I was able to wing skim down south along the shoreline pretty easy. But most of the time the wind is blowing from the Souteast. This seems to be better for riding goofy foot with the wing on my left and going in a north direction but I’m much more comfortable riding regular with the wing on my right. If the wind is blowing from from the Southeast (mostly east) would I still be able to ride south parallel to the shoreline? Any general wind/condition/ direction in you can provide would be greatly appreciated. 🙏
Having trouble understanding the difference between tacks and jibes - in both cases you twist your body and turn the wing 😅. Cursory google search says a jibe is downwind and tack is an upwind turn. Would be helpful to have a video that goes through e.g. the lifecycle of navigating in side offshore conditions - I’d love some diagrams of a character moving around a dotted path on a map and various maneuvers they would use as they change direction :)
Absolute Legend of a human right here

Simplicity to your answer a jibe is downwind a tack is into the wind. We will add your thoughts to our list for future videos thank you!
Ok
