Last match round 2 against burn 1:42:06 any consideration for attacking with goyf before bolting eidolon? If they don’t block you bolt them twice and lock them out of the game.
@@cooldes4593 It's quite litrrally a reverse git probe. Tap a land of your opponent's choice that they control. Target opponent looks at your hand. Deal 2 damage to that opponent. They discard a card.
1:04:34 - any consideration to bolting yourself to prevent the 6 life gain? they are so threat light that it feels like letting them buy 1-2 turns is less effective than the card and life loss to bolt yourself. an interesting line to consider... not sure if it's a good one, but would be interested in your thoughts.
@@yeahgoood I'm not even sure what the point of your comment is. Are you trying to troll? Cause if so it's a pretty bad attempt. My "grip on reality" as you crudely put it, is fine. It's called hyperbole, people use it sometimes. Get over it.
At 1:43:00 I think the correct play was to power up the ravine, this forces the burn player to helix your ravine instead of you, but I guess on the other hand it is a worse play against a bolt. IDK tough decision.
At around 29:30, I am pretty sure the play was to chump with Bob, and kill the imaged Bulger, that way you still had a scooze in play which could stabilize you if you got removal for the rider.
So at 1:42:00, what if we attack with Goyf. Assume our opponent does not block with Eidolon. Bolt them twice, they go to 2, can't cast spells. We're at 6. They also can't attack us. And I'm trying to consider scenarios where the top of our deck isn't lightning bolt, this is still fine right?
Reid, first of all, thank you for the great effort you put it in your work. It help us a lot in our skill development. If i may, i think you should have played a little bit different In match 1, g2. Instead of discarding chart a course with the second inquisition, you should have discarded manamorphose, since it was the only card that allowed the opponent to play multiple spells in that turn. Against phoenix, you should always tax their lands and Target their cheap spells, to make it difficult for them to play multiples spells in the same turn. Kind regards from Brazil 😬
How do you feel about no bbe and instead a number of tracker? I've played it a couple of times and it feels nice for the fact we can play it turn 4 and have a clue and land up for a bolt or push.
That last game? Why not hit with goyf and drop opponent to 8 leaving Eidolon in play. Then hit opp with bolts drop your opponent to 2 life and so he/she can not cast a single spell for the rest of the game. You would have 6 life and have Raging ravine and goyf? O:-) 1:42:01
I thought that too. But if the opponent blocks they'll probably live for an extra turn, which means an extra card and a lot more outs that just lightning helix.
Crackling Drake + Arclight are an absolute beating for a deck playing Abrupt Decay, huh? There aren't realistically enough slots to sideboard for everything, but Trophy and Fatal Push both seem like relevant considerations if they're a significant part of the metagame. Although now looking at your decklist again I presume you sideboarded them and didn't draw them, whoops.
Reid what are your thoughts on running Leyline of the Void instead of the Spellbombs? Seems like it would be a better card in the meta. I ask because I am considering buying them and they are not cheap. Thanks and I enjoy your videos.
Reid Duke is my favorite player. Three years ago I spent an obscene amount of money to put together Jund before Goyf and Lilliana were reprinted to death. I’ve had to sell two of my modern decks but Jund is my baby. It’s the fairest of the fair and if you’re skilled enough and lucky enough, you can win any tournament.
@@ultrasuperkiller it seems to me that every time someone casts a CC they have another one ready and then another one right after...obviously i said it as a joke
what's your reasoning for keeping all copies of lily of the veil against phoenix? with the opponents having good discard options and recursive creatures isn't it a little weak?
SkarmoryHunter as a whole Confidant is better. While the downside is that you may lose life when you really don’t want to or need to but the advantage is essential. Tracker is three mana and the generation of clue tokens is based on land drops which aren’t always guaranteed. Plus the difference between two and three mana is big in modern.
Game 2 of match 1, you talked about how bad the decay was in the matchup, yet discarded bolt to Liliana instead. Bolt would have killed the arclight, kept your Liliana around to kill the crackling drake and you would have likely won the game vs a mostly empty handed opponent. Edit: whoops Reid didn't have red mana
I'm confused by the blocks at 29:00, if you're in the market for Bob to die why not chump the real Bugler and use Lavamancer to get the Image-Bugler to sacrifice itself? You get to keep Lavamancer and Ooze, untap, ping Lieutenant, gain 2, live the attack on 1 (assuming nothing untoward happens)?
ner04ever The opponent could then target the ravine with any 3 points instant speed burn spell before attackers are declared to avoid lethal. Animating ravine does have its appeal though, since if Reid stuck with his read and specifically wanted to play around lightning helix, an animated ravine would prevent the opponent from targetting face that turn. The opponent would then untap with three cards in hand, and would have to deal four more damage, which is non-trivial given the burn he used on the ravine and his incapability to do so a turn ago on two mana. If Reid gets to untap again, he could then deal with a potential blocking goblin guide with his bolt.
@@morris9703 He's been playing 25 lands before, and now he switched to 24 as he lowered his curve a bit to combat the faster aggressive decks. The ravines are sorted in the second column in his deck tech, maybe you missed them?
