Phil gould, amazing player. Whereas people play along to click tracks through their in ear monitors these days, he is keeping impeccable time with the hot water bass/keyboard loop which must be coming out of those massive monitors behind his drums.
Jealous ain't the word. Forgotten how many times I've seen now but 1st gig was Staring at Sun tour so never saw proper Level. Phil has blocked Me on Twatter though😂 😂😂
My dad videoed it off bbc2 on our phillips 2000 recorder. It was only an hour long and had some songs cut. Had to wait a few years but got it on video for a birthday, played it everyday for years! Still got it in the loft.
Mad. There must have been mega promotion going on then, with stage shows, mega-sound-production and the like. And then the plug is pulled, back to a normal band and few are listening. Oh well. Showbiz is always a kind of rise and fall tale, innit?
Wasn't quite like that. They had monster hits during most of 1985, 1986 going into 1987 so naturally their shows, after so many years building their following steadily, suddenly thrust them into arenas and the long residency at Wembley. Half the band (the brothers on guitar and drums) then left due to a mix of disenchantment with the band's direction as well as exhaustion with the hard work. But they still had big ambitions with their replacement members as well as the album that came along in 1988. By 1989 going into 1990 the peak of their worldwide success had certainly passed. But hey....it took almost half a decade for the bubble to deflate and the hits to dry up, as it were. True Level 42 fans though weren't bothered. They loved the old material before all this in any case. Plus most would agree that the album Forever Now, released after the big commercial period had passed and before the long hiatus began, was a fine album. So the plug was never pulled as such. They gradually returned to what they really were and what they remain to be to this day....a well-loved Britfunk band with serious chops. :)

Walking metronome
Couldnt agree more! Playing with a click is easy with experience. Playing without a click in a band a whole another level of hard
can’t deal this drummer is so good. so tasty and that groove. i’ve watched this concert so many times. in my top 5
Totally and utterly superb! We wore our VHS copy out. One one the best bands (both as writers and live) in the world. Thanks for the upload.
Only in the 80s could you have a flying slap bass frontman
And now we are 37 years later and Level 42 is still getting strong!
Was at this concert. One of the best concerts I've been too. Legends.
So so jealous. Loved this gig as the best for 32 years since I liked them. Perfection lucky you!
I was there too. Brilliant
So Jealous Chaps. Was already into Them but only 13 so didn't see till 88 and Boon and Phil had gone. THE Best.

“Level 42” are amazing, they were brilliant at their best when it was Mark, Mike, Phil and Boon. ✌️☺️
What an awesome live performance.
Always loved this song but wondered if they could do it justice live....😂❤Amazing.
They did everything justice live- Their Pillars are Live - which has kept Them upright since 80 regardless of line up.
Yeah Dave I was blessed to see these guys in Downtown LA couple years ago Marc and the boy's are awesome . I'm a bassist myself. He has my respect.
Hello Dave. The difference with Phil behind it all is amazing. Who's Got a Nice Balloon Then?
Awesome- still got this on VHS.
Me too !

Still awesome in 2020
a flying mark!!
R.I.P. Boon.
Phil...( human metronome)
My favorite Level 42 lineup!
dig the 11"inch rack tom that TAMA made for him too!..
Can smell Stevie Wonders influence all over this jam! 🔥🔥
I've never thought that but Mike is a Big Stevie Fan.
@@davecoalwood9487 More the syncopated synth rhythms than Stevie’s vocals
Fantastic music 👍 great band x
Thank you, Boon.
Best concert I’ve been to by far
Fantasticccccccccccccc Philllll Goulddddd ... !!!
I've watched this Wembley concert numerous times, and just caught that camera angle like a GoPro attached to the bass guitar? 1986, lol?
Thanks for the whole concert David. Brings back loads of great memories :)
Thanks For putting this back up Mate.
On a lighter note...didn't know that Stefan Edberg played the saxophone 🎷 🤣
Wowsies, I was barely born this year but I think they're insanely cool.
lokomotywa, amazing number, love this team:)
PREACH !!!!
The bass (#0006#) with the camera strapped on the neck is not the same bass (#00002#) that is shown hanging on Mark.

Was there. My first gig with L42. Can anyone tell me who the support band were?
😷😳😍😍❤️❤️👍👍👍
could someone lip read and figure out what Phil Gould was saying to camera?
Something like "Lovely fill coming up... now.
Watch this fill coming up...now
@@cymbals1111 And it was !
the double kick at the end of the fill is lovely - played with a single pedal I might add! Phil is an incredible drummer.
