I can say most definitely that's not a Canadian version of what we use for out standard 110v - 120v wall outlets.
I doubt it's the same in the UK as here in Canada, but it still might be well worth a look through the online posted UK customs rules and regulations for exactly what duty, VAT etc applies to what your ordering from out of the country. In Canada there's a distinct separate rule for shop equipment, tooling and most supplies used. We don't pay any duty on machine tools, there accessories, measuring equipment or pretty much on anything that might be used in a shop no matter where it's made and coming from . We do pay what's called GST, PST or for most of Canada a HST sales tax on imported goods. I've had customs try to impose duty a few times and had I not known about that rule I would have been paying it. Even the people that are supposed to know there own rules make lot's of mistakes.

    Hi Alan,
Thank you for doing this vid. Been thinking about buying a set for quite a while and this has been very helpful.
One question i had and you answered was what power does it require. So it plugs in and runs fine on 220V 50Hz
To make it clear. You work out that 300mm is the travel you need and you order the 300mm one on the site. When measuring the actual full length of the assembly, it will be 450mm
Thank again and look forward to the next part
    Keep up the good work.
    Paul

You can get DRO and almost anything else from the EU warehouses, it means you do not pay customs tax although you might have to wait a couple more days but its well worth it. I bought both my dro's from Aliexpress as i have found them much cheaper than banggood.

Thanks Alan very informative video 🙂 looking forward to the next installment.
I actually have a different scale fitted to my lathe (bought from the UK) which are magnetic scales (more costly) but I only have a small lathe (8x16) and the magnetic scales have a much smaller footprint 🙂

Hi, you forgot to mention that there is the likely hood that you will be stung for a hefty import tax, handling charge and vat bill. I only buy from sellers based in the UK nowadays and things only stand to get worst thanks the global economic geniuses who have voted us out of the EU. I had to pay an extra £63.00 on top of the price of my two axis dro (purchase price £140.00). I could have bought exactly the same unit for £160.00 + free p & p.
Once bitten, twice shy as the old saying goes. Otherwise I'm very happy with the setup on my Harrison M300 as I do small production runs of parts for vintage British motorcycles. I'm now looking to replace the ancient and very primitive Newall Sapphire fitted to my Bridge port milling machine.

he does say 5.47 mins in, to buy from uk site, but will be more as vat is added.
I have also found if you want to purchase several items, you are better splitting them up into separate transactions as I believe they only start bothering about vat on goods over £100 I could be wrong on that though.
