    Being a Wales fan and northern hemisphere I was lucky to have known his playing days , I even remember my mates banging on about him and how good he was and now I look back and see why hes the greatest ever no.9 in modern days to wear that shirt.

    An all time great, a beast on the field, a leader, great abilities with great skills and qualities, had some great battles with lomu and always got stuck into him, was utterly fearless. He was and is a true springbok in every sense of the word.

    As rugby players go, Joost is my man at #9 in my GOAT team.
    Never equalled; never bettered.
    The only guy who comes close would be Edwards, but it was different eras and a different game. Joost is my pick.

    • @wernertukker5420
      @wernertukker5420 2 роки тому

      It’s a tough one between Joost and Edwards.
      I ask this question..
      Would Gareth have stopped Jonah in full flow?
      To me, thats what separates them. But then again, I never got to see the great Welshman play, only highlight of his career. Sublime player and rightly up there with the best players of all time, but for me, Joost pips him.

    • @interestedbystander196
      @interestedbystander196 2 роки тому

      @@wernertukker5420 Well, as to the question about whether GE would have stopped Jonah, we'll never know for sure. My guess, though, would be yes. Rugby was a very different game when Edwards was playing, and there were some proper hard bastards about the place (Gareth included, mind you). I'd not expect him to take a backward step when it came to face off with Lomu.
      What we do know for sure, however, is that Joost _did_ bring him down. What a moment that was!
      Anyway, if you're interested, my number three pick would be Agustin Pichot (Argentina). Fantastic player in his day, and a very nice guy along with it.

    Joost van der Westhuizen took Jonah Loma down more than all the other players who played against him together! Even Justin Marshall said Joost was the world's best player during his career. To think that the great Gareth Edwards was only second best as a nr 9 to Van der Westhuizen.

He's one of the toughest players ever to have worn the Green and gold. His battle with MNR disasse were painful to watch but he fought to the bitter end. So piss off and go Fuck yourself.
