We have a 30 foot wide by 16 foot high on our building so that we could pull out and make the swing down the driveway with out having a center pole for a 2nd door in the way. Lol I was here and help the guys put the door up. And when we went to put up the section that had the windows in it I there was like 10 or 12 other guys carrying that thing and it still weighted a ton lol.
Just getting a garage built, getting a 8' x 18' door. I want to easily fit pickup trucks in my garage, something 90% of home builders seem to miss. Crazy that most subdivision houses I see can fit a Honda Civic and a few bicycles next to it and call those "2 car garages"
I am hoping to be able to do an 18x10 door and was wondering if that comes as a standard, and if not how much does it cost more or less for a specialized door size?
You want the door to be the exact size of the opening. You will need to ask the manufacturer to make custom width doors or build the sides in to a size that's available.
thanks for the post, very helpful! quick questions: for your 7-foot high garages I assume they are all made of four 21" tall panels. But what about 8-foot high garage doors? How often do you see four 24" panels vs two 21" plus three 18" panels?
Usually it depends on the door you choose. Some doors are available in 4) 24" sections, others only offer 21" and 18" panels so you will see 21" top and bottom and 3) 18" sections in the middle for and 8' tall door. The Amarr Classica gives you 3) 32" sections for an 8' tall door.
Here most new builds are almost all 8x8, almost always 8’ high though regardless of width. If I’m replacing an old door they are pretty much always 7’ high. Seems like nowadays 8’ high is the way to go around here. I even did a 24’x 8’ the other day on a residential home, the doors seem to be getting bigger!
We're doing more and more 8' tall doors on new construction. Most of our business is replacing existing doors and the older homes here in the North East all have smaller doors. A lot of them under 7' tall and needing low headroom tracks.
Thanks for the video. I am designing my own house. My garage height is limited to 8 ft. My garage door will be either 8 ft or 9 ft wide. I have a teardrop trailer that requires 7 ft 1 in clearance height. What would be the best height for me to make the opening for the garage door?
Does that mean the floor to ceiling measurement in the garage is 8'? if so you could squeeze a 7'6" tall door with low headroom tracks that will keep everything above 7'1"
@@doortodoordesign1055 Yes. 8 ft floor to ceiling. Thanks -will go with an 7'6" tall door then. So for a 7'6" tall door would I put the garage door opening size in my drawings as 7'6" tall?
That is large for residential but not uncommon in commercial. They basically give you commercial grade hardware for size and weight. Doors are engineered to withstand the average wind gust, but certain areas require additional bracing. Your door guys should know if you are in an area that requires a Wind Load Rated Door.
That's big door for residential most models only go up to 18' or 20', but I would reach our to your local mom and pop installers. They are usually reasonably priced and work with multiple manufactures. We're in North Jersey so not familiar with anyone in particular in that area.
I have a 16 wide that i am going to resize down to a 9 ft wide door so what would be the size. i need to make the opening before i install a new door ?

Wow I bet that's a monster. We are mostly residential so don't see anything that big too often.

Cars have gotten so big more and more people are going with the oversized doors for some extra room.

Hello, I am in Ohio, i bought a 16'7 garage door but I think I needed a 16 x 6'4". Should I cut the door or return it?
I have two open space 8 ft hight x11ft-3 inches wide the next size is 8ft hight x 11 ft-5inches wide so what size I would need to for your knowledge.

Do they have 14x9 roll up doors
I believe so that would be commercial we are mostly residential.

Is there any reason to be concerned about either safety (weight of the door) or wind resistance with an 18x10 door? It seems to be an uncommon size.

Im looking for a 22 foot door by 8 foot. Any suggestions in Southern California?

The finished opening should be the size of the the door.
I want to build a walkout basement with a 9x8 garage door. How much height would a 8 foot door require to open correctly
You can make just about anything work in some way. As much height as you can get is best but, if you can get 12" or more that's ideal!
OMG, the mouth smacking is mad annoying. I appreciate the update info but I can't finish the video (and God knows I wanted to)
Sorry I didn't even know I did that until I started doing these videos...apparently its a form of Tourette's. I'll keep trying to work on it.
