I retired from driving School Bus for 48 years for the same School District in August 2020. I never met a child I did not like, even when they tried me to almost the end of my patience. Yes it does take a special kind of person to drive a School Bus. I am proud of that special group.
My Mom made a fruitcake candy, So easy all the candied fruits butter gram crackers crumbs nuts and marshmallow fluff then just mix it up let it sit overnight in the fridge then slice very very thin. That was amazing candy, we all loved it.
Wonderful segment! Thinking about you out in your neck of the woods. Praying for everyone affected by the tornadoes. Please be safe. Hoping you are safe.
Miss Lori I love you and your sweet peaceful voice. I’m resting a while as my fruitcake cookie dough chills in the fridge and . I have a White fruitcake recipe given to me at least 45 years ago. It is absolutely delicious. Has a whole small bottle of lemon extract and lots of real butter. I remember my poor momma gave me a $20.00 bill to make her one. I didn’t tell her it cost way more for all the ingredients. But that many years ago it was very expensive for all the candied fruit. ( and is now also) I love your homestead. My husband always wanted to settle back in the hills with his cattle and horses. God’s blessings to you and yours
Miss Lori, watching you brings back so many wonderful memories ❤, mom and dad both are now with our lord. But watching you brings back memories of mine growing up. And I love watching you . We too thought every one lived like we did. Raised in the country. Had hogs, cattle . Chickens . And a big garden. And a out house. Raised in a small town 23 miles north west of springfeild Missouri. I could watch you 24/ 7. Love your channel. And your a beautiful lady. Love Mr browns storys. And that brings back good memories. God bless you both. Made me a happy lady. Oh and I'm 78 years old god granted me a nother day. . Love the lord allso. My name is Katherine.
I forgot that I LOVE fruitcake cookies!!! Thank you Mrs. Lori 💞 Darn it!!! I have the biggest can of Crisco (thanks hubby) but it’s not butter. Oh goodness! I wasn’t a bus driver but 2 of my 3 kids were not good bus riders. I don’t know how they do it! Teachers and bus drivers are VERY special people! My heart goes out to all of you. ❤️
I made these cookies today and you are right-they are the world’s best! I’m going to have to let my daughter hide them from me or I’ll eat the entire 6 dozen! Thank you so much for this recipe and I wish you, Mr. Brown and your family a Merry Christmas and a wonderful and peaceful 2022.
After my husband retired from being a newspaper printer, he learned to be a school bus driver. What an education did he get. Especially sense we never had children, he had no experience with kids. It took a whole school year and learning to play music to settle things down. Now he loves it! Thank goodness, because we really need the health benefits this jobs comes with. Thanks for the recipes 😘
Wow! Made these yesterday and there is not a single crumb left!!!! Even those who say they don't care for fruitcake (most haven't even tried it...) loved these!!!! They were chewy moist, not over sweet - just perfect! Thanks for sharing. Hugs from Ohio!!!
We love fruitcake! Me and the wife enjoy your channel. I am a OTR trucker and enjoy my days off starting with a good cup of coffee & y'alls videos I have missed over the week. MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM US!
School Bus drivers are my heroes! In my area, when schools shut down in 2020, our amazing drivers drove every single week day, even through the summer, to be sure children did not go hungry. Now that schools have reopened, they bring some of my favorite people to classroom door! Please, please remember to obey all local laws regarding stopped school buses. NEVER pass a bus with a stop arm extended. That stop arm and those flashing lights are not there to annoy you or make you late for work. They are there to save lives!
My mom made the best fruitcake. It had whole almonds and dates and no green icky fruit super dense. Then wrapped in a cloth and soaked in Brandy and left for a month. OMG it was amazing
I'm from Northeast Louisiana & my Granny would make these every holiday season. We loved them so much & looked forward to being in the kitchen while she prepared these cookies bc the kitchen smelled so good. 😋 Thank you for sharing this 💖
Yes...it was TWO WEEKS! 😅 I was praying over that fruitcake everyday hoping it was still good (and that nobody would be in the hospital for Christmas!) 🤪 Amen to what wonderful folks we have driving our beloved kids around on those buses...a precious cargo if there ever was one! God bless them all...teachers and lunch ladies, too! 😉 Love y'all... Michelle 💗XO💗
Christmas cake is very English. We also have it in Australia. Traditionally it is made well ahead of Christmas and the cake is best when it has mellowed and aged. If mine are not made by September I get a jiggle on!
I love fruit cake! I have everything on hand except the candied fruits. Getting dressed and on my way to the supermarket. We will be enjoying those cookies tonight! Thank you for what looks like the best cookie recipe ever!
I just made these. It’s 2:33 AM. I’m getting some easy prep ahead for tomorrow morning. I cant sleep because i want to enjoy every bit of Christmas I can. Lol. These are delicious I got about 4 dozen from one batch. I used pecans for the nuts and dried cranberries instead of raisins. I ended up ordering the candied fruit online. It was a little pricey but its totally worth it.
Miss Lori, I bought the same mixer before I retired in the same color red. I call her “Big Bertha”! I have about 10 recipe’s that I need the bigger bowl. But what I like the most, is that having the more powerful motor, you can beat the ingredients at a lower speed and not throw flour everywhere. You will love it! If I can get the ingredients for these cookies at Publix Big Bertha and I are going to make a batch. Mr. Brown is a very lucky man!
My dad loved fruitcake but he loved a "heavy fruitcake" as he would call it . Last year I found a recipe that seemed like it would be something he would love, there were spices I didn't even have but I sent away for them just to make him this fruitcake and he loved it. It had to weigh ten pounds but each day he had a slice and soon finished it all. Dad went home to be with the Lord two months ago so I am so happy I made it for him last Christmas. I'm not a fruitcake fan but these look good and I'm making these cookies in honor of Daddy this Christmas. Thank you so much for sharing.
Maticia, I'm so happy to know you took the time and effort to make special memories with your Dad by making that fruitcake and watching him enjoy it! 💙 God bless and keep you this holiday season. It's a difficult time when you lose someone, but the holidays can be even harder...I focus on The One we celebrate...if not for Christ coming and His sacrifice, there would be no future in Heaven with those we've had to temporarily say goodbye to here on earth. Prayers for peace and comfort! ❤️✝️❤️
I love fruit cake, my Oma used to make them and it was the old very old German recipe, and no one got any of her recipes. I actually get cravings for her from scratch baking and cooking everything she made was yummy and delicious.
A lady sent her husband with fruitcake cookies to our office and they were so good. I have been looking for a recipe since to make them. A gift of homemade goodies is always so much appreciated knowing a person took the time to fix something special for you.
Those cookies look soooo delicious. I'm going to have to leave out the raisins. My mother made fruitcake using everything but almond extract and raisins. She used lemon extract. Sadly she passed away when I was 19 but I still make her way of making fruitcake. Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful delicacies and recipes with us through your videos!
Thanks for sharing this recipe. I was wondering if y'all are doing ok after the tornado last night. Did it affect your area? You are in my prayers. I hope you are ok! Praying for all the folks devastated at this time. God bless you. ❤
i think they're gorgeous exactly the way they are--i like the great big honkin' ones, and i like 'em kinda spread out because they're usually chewier that way. :)
Although I have never cared for fruitcake before, I enjoyed this video and might give these cookies a chance. Thanks for sharing! Praying that you will feel better before Christmas Miss Lori!
My mother’inlaw used to make the most delicious fruitcake. When I first met my husband, and was over their house around the holidays she offered me some. My first reaction was 🤐 because fruitcake has such a bad reputation, but I relented and tried some and oh my goodness it was so delicious!! She did not use currants, or rum, or anything like that. It was golden raisins, candied red and green cherries, and candied pineapple. I always looked forward to that fruitcake every year, and I remember sitting with her for hours dicing up all the fruit. She would make many cakes, and it would be an all day event in the kitchen. Anyone that says they don’t like fruitcake has been eating the wrong one. Her’s was like a very dense pound cake that had those fruits and walnuts, and your cookies look like they would taste just like it. I will definitely be making these, even if I’m the only one that will eat them 😋
Vicki, you might enjoy the White Fruitcake recipe in Mrs. Lori's cookbook "Blessed Table." My family only uses candied cherries, pineapple and raisins (some even omit the raisins.) Living in Georgia, we usually always have fresh GA pecans available, so most of us use those, but I love walnuts too! Blessings to you this Christmas, Michelle ✝️
Love watching you could you please put a recipe for school spaghetti recipe the way they used to make it it would be awesome to go with your school rolls that you have done thanks for all you do
Thank you my husband loves fruit cake. This would be perfect for him !Yes, bus drivers are very special people. God bless them especially in this day and time.
Thanks ! You had me with ‘fruitcake’. I think I’m the only one in my family that actually hunts for a fruitcake in the grocery store each Christmas. Will bake the cookies if I can find the candied fruits. God Bless you and Mr Brown. 💕from Ky.

So my brother and I sit down and enjoy our treats with a cup of egg nog with a little bit of Canadian Whiskey while the rest of the family enjoy whatever it is they enjoy.
Looks and sounds delicious. I will definitely try them this year. They sound like they would be a good cookie with coffee, while listening to some Christmas music and watch it snow ❄️
I was just cutting up the candied fruit for my grandma’s fruit cookies and saw your video. The recipe was her great great grandmother’s who ran a boarding house in Ohio. It is similar to yours but double the ingredient amounts. It has cinnamon instead of almond extract, & uses lard for shortening. It is a family favorite and wouldn’t be Christmas without a big can full in the pantry. It’s the first cookie made each Christmas as it keeps well and flavor seems to improve.
