He was better looking than James Dean. Without question, the most amazing and charming gentleman ever to grace the silver screen! There are two kinds of women in this world...the ones that love James Dean and the ones that love Sal Mineo. I'm a Sal Gal for life!!
I can only imagine what a powerhouse Sal would have been if he was still alive. I would love to have seen him as Father Karras in "The Exorcist." It would have changed his life, and i think he would have been magnificent! What do you think?
It took many years for him and Natalie Wood to accept and come to terms with James Deans death. They were all so young and well these sort of things really didn't happen to young aspiring stars who were all very close......... and so on..... So Sad.....
Sal's a lot more straight acting than I expected. Note to self - don't believe everything you read in a James Ellroy trilogy. Goddamn fiction, fooling with my insides.
Dean was 8 years his senior. It's like dealing with an older brother. 8 years is huge, in terms of mindset. He no doubt wanted to be accepted by Dean. He was a 16 year old kid, moving around in an adult world, in 1955. Then, the same year, James Dean is killed in an MVA. Sal Miineo's world went upside down. The guy he idolized, and most likely had a young attraction to, was now dead. Crazy.
Sad and ironic that all three key characters in his famous movie with Dean and Wood would die tragically still young. That film defined a generation of that time.
Sal Mineo grew into adulthood so handsomely... always had screwball curly hair, but that only adds to his adorable character. And he also grew into a smooth, compelling speaking voice..
