Nice little instrument! It sure is a good time to be alive if one is looking for sustainable and affordable ukuleles. It's amazing what a $100 bill will get you these days. Thanks for the review and comparison!
Greetings from Utah! Another terrific review. You are one of my favorite people on UA-cam. Thank you!
+Greg Gibson thanks!
I got the suprano enya eus hpl on Amazon for 66 dollers and it comes with the pikup and all the things that he showed like the goody bag the case and much more and it’s very good cualaty
Thanks for the awesome reviews!
I bought the Enya X1 concert from Banggood but it arrived with rusty and worn down frets and they wouldn't acknowledge that this makes the ukulele defective. I would really advise people to avoid buying them from Banggood. Oh well, maybe it is also a case of "you get what you pay for".
Certainly would avoid that supplier. Enya advise that is old stock and not authorised by them, they are ONLY selling via Amazon. Everything else is a grey channel
I'm really impressed with this Enya brand, I actually ordered their EUR-X1 after watching your review a few weeks back.
I can't wait to get my hands on it.
I was wondering what's your opinion on the Brunswick ukulele's?
I picked up one of their concerts and I was really impressed with it, so much so that I just ordered one of their tenor's.
Apparently they're an English brand but I've pretty much seen practically no reviews for their uke's and in my opinion they're a great starter instrument.
Have you had any experience with them Baz?
+SpeedBoost similarly unimpressed!
HI Barry - Thanks for all the great reviews you do. Thought I'd mention that Enya is now selling the advertised with side fret markers.
I've recently realized that there are 1-2 things I'd love to see you add to your reviews. 1) Intonation (I'm starting to learn how much this matters at times), and 2) how it sounds with a capo. I have a Flight travel uke and was planning on using with a capo on a visit home - it sounds Terrible! (yes - I had retuned it). I am now considering this to replace the Flight, so of course I looked back at your review.
theadi339 I do mention intonation where it is really bad, but really just to explain why the video will sound off. I don’t major on it though because intonation is not a design feature. It can be adjusted through setup to dial it in, so bad intonation is really just a feature of poor quality control or a uke that slipped through without setup. I’ve seen $1500 ukes with poor intonation, but they are not bad ukes. They just need a setup. So to major on it would be somewhat pointless as it could just be a one off. Not all intonation is equal!
Capo use is difficult because capos themselves vary hugely. Which capo should I use? I’d be 99% certain if you had a bad experience, it was down to the capo being too tight, not a function of the ukulele. If I put an adjustable capo on my Kanile’a it will sound terrible if it is too tight. You need only just enough tension to engage the strings.
Again, Yes Enya misses the mark by not topping the HPL with wild, fun and colorful patterns, but if you're going to apply a picture of Koa why not the image of the curliest, flameyt Koa imaginable? Just a thought. Thanks for the review. Quite a deal.
Yeah - can see that!
I think it sounds brilliant with the original(non-Martin) strings! But that's just me! Beautiful uke!
And I couldn't help noticing the Carved Cat uke from Kmise just behind you! Just wondering what has become of that!:)
The tone is indeed nice with the stock strings, just don't like the low tension
I love these ukes! I had the camp style HPL (still would had it not been stolen) but I also have the pineapple HPL Enya. Have you checked it out? I love it! Cheers!
not played the pineapple i'm afraid.
Awesome review 😊
Thanks!
Your reviews are great! Thank you for them. What do you think of Enya's OMS-02 concert ukelele?
Sorry, not played it
Thank you by the way!
Sorry to sound curt - was in a rush!
I'm thinking to buy a Enya but I really don't know yet. I'm not a beginner so i'm thinking about a Kala uke as next step, but I like how enya sounds... Hard decision!
I think they are right up there- buy the uke not the brand. At 8.8 out of 10. This iis a VERY high score for my site.
Hello. Which is better for beginner? Enya EUC X1 or Kala Tenor Mahogany?
Oh yes I can hear the projection difference between the two.
Paper bridge assembly ... isn't paper made from wood? It would be interesting to find out, if you can, if the paper is recycled or not.
It's paper pulp in a resin. Suspect it is indeed recycled paper - most things are these days except virgin paper where clean whites are essential
GotAUkulele 👍
Love your reviews. Looking for an entry level ukulele. Trying to decide between this Enya and the Snail UKS220 Rosewood soprano. They both look like really good beginner level instruments, but I see the Enya has a bone compensated saddle and the Snail's is plastic. Not sure if the nut is removable on the Enya, but I see it is on the Snail. I do want to have the ability to do some adjusting. Wonder what your thoughts are?
Given the choice I think I'd take the Snail, though the Enya is very cool. You don't need the nut to be removeable to adjust the slots - you can do that with it still on the uke. I don't advise taking a nut down from the bottom as you dont necessarily want all strings to get lowered
great review
Got one without the pickup. Amazes me the quality/price ratio. Finish is excellent - makes you wonder why other brands have razor-like fret edges etc when this one is beautifully put together. Breaking in some Martin strings, but just one question to anyone out there. Intonation seems a bit ropey up the fret board. As a relative beginner, is that strings settling in, high saddle, poor technique on my part or what? Should I be looking to just strum down the bottom end on a soprano? My Flight TUS50 is fine all the way up though
No uke should do that. But it could be bad strings or high bridge
Put Martins on it but in the end I returned it to Amazon. Such a shame as it was a real thing of beauty and incredibly tactile, not to mention the quality of the gig bag. I quite fancy their pineapple soprano too but I'm a bit 'once bitten twice shy'. Mind you, there's nothing lost if returning I guess, other than the hassle. Flight, on the other hand, while not being the most attractive, are pretty good
Nice work - best uke reviews on youtube. I'm about to review an Enya acoustic dreadnought on my Flowforth Instruments channel. They are an interesting brand but I'm hearing that they are going out of business and someone bought all their stock. Have you heard anything as such?
+Kop Prophet no - I'm in contact with them and that doesn't seem to be the case. Old stock of rosewood fingerboard ukes may have been bought up, but they recently (last few week) developed the Richlite replacement. They are only just available
Hi Barry -- I'm considering the Baritone version of this, mainly because it seems that the dealers in the US who do setup have stopped carrying entry-level baritones. (And they did not so long ago.) Could be the profit margin and sales volume aren't high enough to justify it. I'm tempted to get this, which is going for about $100 right now. Would you recommend this over a Lanakai or Kala from eBay or Amazon that may just be straight out of the box? Thanks for all you do!
I never like the Amazon out of the box experience, but I must say, i've had three Enyas sourced via Amazon and all three had setup I didn't need to even touch! I suppose it depends on which Kala though - all the Enyas ARE a bit quiet.
Thank you!
Great review - AGAIN! I bought the little round one based on your review and I love it! Would I like more volume? Yes. Soooo, guess I’ll have a go with the EUS!
This one is definitely louder still, although still not the loudest soprano out there. Improves on the round one though.
Can you recommend a great tenor ukulele that has a great ring with a mellow tone that isn't expensive but not cheap? I don't care if it is an acoustic electric one because I have a ton of microphones.
Lots really - but cheap / expensive is really subjective. Best I can advise is look at all my reviews - anything with a score of 8 out of 10 or more gets my vote. www.gotaukulele.com/p/ukulele-reviews.html
I plan on gigging with the ukulele.
I'm not talking about buying one for a grand, but something around 300 US dollars.
chris Garner - you've no doubt got one by now but I'd recommend the Kala solid mahogany or the solid Koa - the first is around £200 - the Koa is £300 or more. I have the Mahogany and people often comment on how nice it sounds - very mellow but capable of being pretty loud and punchy when strummed - love it.
Fair enough it not being your thing, but I would love to know what it sounds like through the pickup...
It’s a half decent pickup sound to be honest. Sorry - can’t video that now as I no longer have the uke.
GotAUkulele Fair enough, cheers!
Is it just me or does Enya not show their cheaper ukes on their website?
I don't think their website shows half of what they have their name on. There are some worryingly cheap Enya models coming to market at present that I will go on record here as saying that I DON'T endorse.
how do you re string a ukulele with that type of bridge whear the strings go inside
Put strings in hole in bridge, feed into the body and pull through out of the sound hole. Tie a firm knot in the end then pull it back to anchor it.
@@GotAUkulele thank you i just figured it out =]
Can you use any brand of strings?
Yes - personal choice - so long as you use the right strings for the scale of the instrument
