- Umbrel is an easy to use Bitcoin full node and lightning node that you can run on a dedicated device at home. The Umbrel app store allows you to download and use tons of great software to use on your home network and up your game as a Bitcoiner. This video will walk you through how to navigate the Umbrel dashboard, connect Bitcoin wallets to your node, basics of opening lightning channels, and how to access everything remotely from anywhere.

Respectful speaking you missed the most important step at 30:58 when connecting umbrel to ledger live at step 4.. most people can't get it work at step 4 because ledger satstack is a complecated software needed to connect to umbrel.
Please give us an update.
Shouldn't be using Ledger after the recent debacle of them having access to your private keys
It was a real struggle, being so anemic and all, but somehow I managed to get it set up.

Thanks for this. Set up my node as per your guide but struggling to work out the sparrow wallet connection. Which is preferable, the Local or Tor connection. If Tor, how does one connect having never used Tor?
Ben, thanks for your videos. I have all the hardware you recommended. Any thoughts on whether Umbrel or MyNode is better for someone who is just starting to run his own node? I watched your MyNode video and was leaning toward them.
So far I am running my Umbrel node, I believe, totally behind Tor. What do I have to do to allow the node to be “reachable,” if anything? Thanks so much.
I am v confused with all the wallets. Why use Zeus when we have blue wallet or Wallet of Satoshi set up? Also, can you connect multiple wallet providers to one node (i.e. zeus, WoS, Ledger, Sparrow)?

Very cool. Really considering doing this but I would like to know if someone is able to summarize the benefits/reasons one might want to do this(especially ones that are self serving or monetary benefits). Would be a good indication of how much adoption something like Umbrel gets and why one would be motivated to continually maintain and re-engage with it on a regular basis.
Umbrel is awesome, I can't recommend it enough, especially if you are a big nerd. 👍
We do we not use SSL? I would argue this should be enabled by default. Or is Umrel making it too hard to set up properly?
How do I ensure that in running on the TOR Browser?
Dang it, you skipped the SatStack part of the Ledger Live connection to Full Node. I keep getting stuck there. How the hell do I run SatStack so that Ledger Live connects to it.

do i have to open a channel first if i want to send sats or will the channel to my opposite be opened automatically when i send sats to the person that created an invoice.
so for example, i‘m at a shop and want to buy something from someone but i don‘t have any channels open. would that work if the seller creates an invoice?
I know this is an older video, but I'm just started with bitcoin node. My question is what's in it for me to "pay" someone to join there channel in the lightning network?
I noticed you keep a lot in the Lightning wallet compared to the main chain. To open a channel, though, does it matter whether I have anything in the Lightning wallet? Or maybe better stated:
1) Do I need anything in the Lightning wallet to start opening channels? And
2) If I open channels with people, does the Lightning wallet balance increase, or will I need to add to that wallet from another location? I know that opening a channel effectively locks up the Bitcoin, but where does it go while it’s off-chain?

Can't connect to the server through tor, chrome works though. Any suggestions? Is it private if it runs through chrome?
Does anyone know or perhaps you Ben if you can just unplug the node from the internet when you don't use it and just plug it back in when you use it? I mean it doesn't have to stay running when you're not using it right?

Ben can you do one for citadel node? I think they are open source compared to umbrel.

1. Do you have a tutorial on extending this to your Wordpress with Woocommerce store to receive payments through BTCPayserver?
2. As a local store or consultant with this setup, can you comment on how you would plan your sales? If you are making 60.000 usd per year (so that is total incomming payments) how many nodes you need to be linked with? Eg 5000 usd incomming per month. How would you plan that? Thanks
Ben if I heard you correctly you said Sparrow requires Electrum
It does connect to Bitcoin Core so not sure why not mentioned
He did not tell us that MemPool also requires electrum
So in order to install it it will tell you to install electrum first...

Yep this seems like a requirement for Ledger to connect to Umbrel. Not sure how he hasn't mentioned this because I cant proceed without doing it...and I just cant figure out how to get satstack to run.
Ledger stopped supporting Satstack. The Umbrel team reached out to them 3 times I was told by the support chat of Umbrel. They never got an answer from Ledger…
Hi Ben, I opened up a lightning channel w/ you. How do I get it online? Local balance has Sats, but Remote doensn't, is that a problem? I can't send or receive any Sats either. Thanks..

i dont see the reason for tail scale. i can access my node locally and over tor with my phone, just like I do on windows...
I had to delete Bitcoin Core recently and reinstall/resync. It froze up on me for no reason and stopped syncing. I'm almost synced back up after several days. Not sure what happened. Defintely feel naked without it though. So to speak.

I've tried to set up. My node has stopped syncing at 20% for 3 weeks! Frustrating. I tried this before for 3 months and it never fully downloaded 170 Mbps download!

no matter which app I use (Electrs, bitcoin full node, thunderhub etc) Sparrow does not connect. Error: "SOCKS: Host unreachable. Check if the proxy server is running."

Indeed. I've covered RaspiBlitz, myNode and Ronindojo as well, but I'll soon be taking a look at Start9, Nodl and perhaps Citadel. I've also of course covered simply running a copy of core and connecting your wallets to it.

The 0.5.3 update Epsteined my node. System won't boot. Anyone else had this issue. I had security cameras on it but there was a technical error and my kids who I put in charge to watch the node were asleep when it died.
