Considering the type of music Meshuggah and Rush both play (or in Rush’s case, played) I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the breakdown was a tribute to YYZ.
Number 1 messed up breakdown is the most brutal breakdown ever by Rob Scallon and Dave Brown. It starts at 170bpm and ends in 1bpw (beats per week). The whole breakdown is almost a month long

remembrance is one of my favorite breakdowns, so wierd yet so groovy and heavy!
I think the breakdown in love by gojira is way weirder than the one in remembrance. Even though the one in remembrance is much more technical, love's breakdown is just so goofy to the ears.

Orel Arokidas Gojira in general are one of the best in DELIVERING the breakdown. They build up the tension and then release hell. It's not just the breakdown itself, It's the build up and then the breakdown. So many great songs crafted that way, remembrance, Flying Whales, pray, magma, l'enfant sauvage, backbone, the art of dying...

I think the sickest breakdown is at the end of Illusion of Strength from Admiral Angry. Its the last 30 seconds of the entire album and its just mindblowing... it drops down to the gates of hell with full of agony with the grief of a dying musician. Its art.
