  • The moving and storage industry is ever changing. Over the last several years the industry has seen a major decrease in CDL drivers. This issue has forced many companies to start looking for alternative ways to meet their customer's needs. In the last several years the use of under CDL, 26-foot trucks with automatic transmissions have become an industry standard.
We're bring you along as we upgrade our fleet of moving trucks. As you watch, you'll learn what makes an ordinary truck a moving van, and what specific things we look for when purchasing a moving van. Some of the features we're looking for include an attic (copula/deck) above the cab, doors on each side of the truck body, a low-profile frame, a detachable walk board, and ability to transport more than three employees safely. The truck specifications we've listed make a mover's job much easier.
Today we're taking you along as we look at a 2014 Freightliner (M2 106 Business Class) extended cab moving truck. This truck has a 26-foot furniture body built by US Truck Body. From the photos this appears to be the perfect moving truck.
We've never had experience with an extended cab or a US Truck Body. Unfortunately, after looking it over we were not impressed with this particular truck. Ultimately, we made the decision to keep looking.

I would think passenger side door on front of box and mid box, then use the back doors for unloading the rear area. What caused the water leaks?

Typically moving vans have double swing doors we call "barn doors" located mid box on the passenger side. Sometimes there is a second located towards the rear. Usually that is a single swing such as the one on this unit. As for the water leak, we don't know anything about it. We chose to pass on this truck due to that particular issue.

The cargo box is junk. As a chassis/cab I might be interested, but you have to be cautious with fleet vehicles, most of them get maintained fine but they get driven HARD.

The cargo box has definitely seen better days. We passed this unit up for another one in better shape.

*a lease from a CORPORATE "COMPANY"? ... Is there any other type of company other than a corporate one.*

Poa, there are many different kinds of companies. Sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation, and limited liability company (LLC) just to name a few. When the term "corporate" was used here it refers to a large multi national corporation. When looking at a used truck it is important to know it's history. Did it come from a large "corporate" company, an owner operator, or a small family owned business? Knowing the history will tell you a lot about how a truck has been maintained over the course of it's life. Thanks for watching the video!
