With this I always find the smallest excuse to ride somewhere. To pick up things, shop, meet friends or just to explore places I don’t know. That is a rad bike. I was about to purchase a Santa Cruz High Tower but my buddy wants me to go the ebike route. He's looking at mid motor production models but that doesn't really interest me because the prices are almost prohibitive and they're all maxed at 20 mph not 49.I know there's some legal wrangling going on there but that's what I want.Your bike seems to cover a lot of bases. What kind of off roading do you do? How much does it weigh? Is it good on the bumps, jumps, trails and climbs? I don't mind building but it does look like a lot to bite off. I've built rc cars, helicopters, planes. How much build time are we looking at here?

Such as food shopping, laundry visits, collecting fresh water. I don’t need to go like a bat out of hell but easy to mount on the van would be crucial.

Be careful guys. 3600$ is not really true. After buying Ladi's parts list, I went trough and concluded that all prices + shipping are much higher in real, plus take into account import TAX. Frame, fork, motor, brakes, battery, other small stuff are more expensive than in original calculation. This build barely will fit into 4500 euro in Europe, not sure about USA and other countries. Options which Ladi shows in this video like lights, switches, charger, mirror, etc... are considered as extra in parts list and will cost additional money. Especially Schlumpf drive, quite expensive thing... Think twice before buying parts list. For sure you will not get bike you see in video for 3600$, absolutely.

Seat level is set too low. You should be able to extend your leg to a straight position when sitting on the bike, with your foot on the pedal. I guess if doesn't matter if you only use the pedals occasionally. Also in my opinion, a standard bike seat is no good, get something that supports your entire butt, not a regular bike seat that puts pressure on your privates. It's like the inventors of standard bike seats were not even thinking.

I have converted my $35 dollar second-hand Mtn bike into a 32 mph 1500 watt rear hub ebike. I bought a mostly complete CaliBike kit from a dude on Craigslist for $375. The Calibike battery is 52V 20 Ah. So I think I have a pretty great ebike with about a 30+ mile range. I enjoy pedaling along with throttle power as needed on hills, and to accelerate at traffic intersections. A big key for me is exercise; I have had 4 knee surgeries and bicycling seems to be the only way I can strengthen my knees (and relieve my arthritic pain!) If I were to purchase your full kit plan for this 60 mph ebike DIY, will I still be able to work my knees and legs for exercise? I like building my own stuff and I feel strongly that ebikes, e motorcycles are the future! (Better for Mother Earth as well). I am in Tucson Arizona, USA. Are all the supplies I would need in the USA? Also, I would like to make a more "motorcycle looking" bike with fat tires, and higher handle bars, perhaps "z-style"; kind of like a mini-old school 60's style dirt-bike-chopper! Lastly, does your $3600 kit price include estimated shipping costs? If not, is there a way I could do a cost of shipping analysis/estimate? Are there any other "hidden" costs? I am retired on a fixed income and I need an accurate picture in terms of "real costs." I need to know accurately (as possible) what I would be getting into with this kit. Thank you. Cheers!

I realized this bike seems a bit weak for high performance. I'm thinking a old 125 mx 125cc bike with a brooken engine would be much stronger. I remember my old rm 125 only weighed 86kg with engine and water cooling.

To be fair, a decent mtb is $3500 (or more). Even for a simple road bike, the cheapest non-junk bike is $1k, and that’s with very budget rims and absolutely no carbon fiber besides the forks. Then if you want a disk wheel, that alone might be $3,500 just for the rear wheel (and no that doesn’t include the tire, often won’t even include the gears either at that price).
Me drooling over a $3k wheelset for my bicycle, and you’re complaining $3500 for an ebike is kind of funny. It’s not as cheap as it could be, you can certainly do it cheaper, but he’s probably wanting some quality parts that can deliver some performance when couples together. If you want something different, then that’s totally cool, you don’t need to pick the exact parts he did, customize it for what you need.
It’s all about perspective similarly I look at new cars and thing “dang, $15k is about the cheapest crappy car you can get new? Screw that, I can find cars that will do wheelies for cheaper!”, I wouldn’t want some boring low end base model granny mobile, and at that prices I look towards used. It’s just preference.
