This song is sooooooo much harder to play than it looks. You make it look so easy. I’ve been playing drums for 15 years and this song throws me for a loop so bad.
It’s a tough one! Fun fact - I was actually the first drummer to play this song, I had 45 minutes to come up with parts for a Sunday night service with a demo of only vocals and keys. We actually played it at 114bpm so a fair bit faster than album and some of the patterns I played ended up making it to the final version although played in different spots. I stuffed up a bit that night and Dan McMurray missed a snare hit on the actual album record and they didn’t dub it back in haha. So don’t feel too bad, it’s really hard to nail the 12/8 feel at this speed.
@@ethkdrums that’s awesome man, I can’t imagine coming up with some of that stuff on the spot lol. I’m playing it for the first time this Sunday and we had practice last night, and the song humbled me quickly lol. What setting do you guys have the metronome on?? 12/8 with any accents or anything?
@@earlybro19 hopefully it went well on Sunday! from memory I just had the click on quarters. We only use the accents if playing to a track so we know where the 1 is.
Haha yeah it’s quite the number. I played it in church the first time it was done in Sydney and the parts I played (came up with on the spot) included a massive open groove like “no reason to hide” - it was also about 5 bpm faster haha
Beautiful, sensitive playing - my favourite version of one of my favourite songs!
Glad Im not the only one having to search this up... thanks a lot man!
absolutely incredible drum cover

This song requires the most stamina I've needed in a worship song in years! Great job!
