That's a nicely done chase with some good camera angles and decent continuity. Shame the 'LTD' explodes as soon as it rolls over, another car crash cliche.
If you tried to plow through the alleyway trash like that with a modern car, the airbags would deploy and you’d get stuck within 5 seconds😂 those old metal tanks could survive anything at the expense of the people inside
my very favorite part of that movie and also a cool car chase, too. I understand that herbie hancock wrote and performed the song " crazy chase" for this scene, but i don't think it's on the soundtrack. anypne know where to get it?
Mazda RX-2, one of the first rotary-powered cars sold in the U.S. (if not THE first). There aren't many left here today, due to the difficulty in getting anyone in the U.S. to work on rotaries. I can imagine in 1987-1988 (when this was filmed) there were a few non-running examples floating around to trash...at that time, it was just considered a 15 year old used car with no engine.
@metrozx: Have to disagree with you, man. It's one of the main car chases I watch when I want to feel pumped. [Maybe the phrase "police pursuit" would fit better.] I don't think the police force the gang members to go faster because much of the chase takes place through residential areas / areas with people out in the open. I mean, look at 2:23.
@metrozx: the one thing I DON'T like about this chase is the pathetic little sound and lack of music that takes place when Penn hits the dirt pile. It might be realistic, but imo there should've been a large "whomp"/ dust cloud, then nothing, then the car crashing into the ground.
I thought the LAPD didn't used Dodge Diplomats? Ford and Chevy split the LAPD patrol cars from 1982 to 1991. Maybe they used a few Diplomats undercover but that's it.
Boyyy if they would’ve lived the charges they would’ve racked up in real life sheeeesh Attempted murders, Reckless endangerment, eluding arrest, assault on an officer, attempted murder or murder (they shot that one cop car to shit) under jail lmao basically
Dat church da crip$ $hot up wa$ on 114th & Wilmington next door to jordan$ cafe(which is closed now) in watt$.The church i$ gon.it$ a empty gra$$ lot now
I know! There's just something great about 70s/80s techno-y music for car chases and other intense scenes, like in The Terminator.
And The Warriors(1979)
80s and 90s
Colors, New Jack City, Boyz n the hood, Juice and Menace 2 Society. All classics!
New jersey drive and the 74 gone in 60 seconds!
Don't forget South Central
Facts 💯
Dennis Hopper is a genius as a film director/Sean Penn and Robert Duvall make an awesome acting Team.
RIP Dennis Hopper
that ltd is like a tank
Mercury
No that is really a 1972 Mercury Marquis Brougham 4-door sedan. people confuse that for a Ford LTD cause both cars were made by The Ford Motor Company
who ever made this flick, doesn't know a Mercury from a Ford!
The Crip chick that was driving the car was HOT!!
she old now :/
yeah but at 1:41 look at the driver closely
Dean Johnson YEAH ABOUT 48 NOW.
Sharon Schaffer
I would fk the shit outta her. Lol 😂🤣 😂
Casting Sean Penn as a police officer is a slap in the face to all of LAPD.
That's a nicely done chase with some good camera angles and decent continuity. Shame the 'LTD' explodes as soon as it rolls over, another car crash cliche.
It's a 1971 or '72 Mercury Marquis actually.
never let the girl drive the getaway car
3 years before "Boyz in the Hood"!!!!
This is my movie right here but you cut out the best part when the preacher said are we afraid of these gangsta's then hits the floor....lol
B Taylor he still isn’t afraid bitch, these gangsters aren’t shit
He said hoodlums N it's nothing funny about that cuz it really was happening like that back N the days. SMFHHH
If you tried to plow through the alleyway trash like that with a modern car, the airbags would deploy and you’d get stuck within 5 seconds😂 those old metal tanks could survive anything at the expense of the people inside

jea
even to the point where someone made a remake of this chase in gtav. that very chase brought me here.
i want that music!!!
Actually, the Mercury being chased here is a 1972 Marquis, not a Monterey. The headlights doors are open and the rear fender skirts have been removed.
the best part is when he says my wife wants to meet u and u can bring a date..lol
my very favorite part of that movie and also a cool car chase, too. I understand that herbie hancock wrote and performed the song " crazy chase" for this scene, but i don't think it's on the soundtrack. anypne know where to get it?
Dude what's the sick instrumental playing?
Never knew it was the great Hancock who was responsible for this. I've been educated.
You think if the Diplomat and the Gran Fury had the 360 engines LAPD would used them regardless of the wheelbase?

What's the song in the chase?
@metrozx: Have to disagree with you, man. It's one of the main car chases I watch when I want to feel pumped. She was driving her ass off...
Sean Penn was saying bitch can drive man s he was a great driver
What is this song? lol Did Herbie Hancock ever release the Score for this movie?
I love the explosions without reason
There is a reason
Also that the 318 engine also didn't help the DIplomat/Gran Fury cause.
Only thing that drives me nuts in this movie is the stupid camera panning up during the slide sequences!

I WANT THE MUSIC FOR THIS CHASE
Boyyy if they would’ve lived the charges they would’ve racked up in real life sheeeesh Attempted murders, Reckless endangerment, eluding arrest, assault on an officer, attempted murder or murder (they shot that one cop car to shit) under jail lmao basically

Pacquiao wasn't driving
So when the gangbangers crash their car it blows up but when Sean Penn crashes the exact same way right beside them his car is fine
Whose the actress, the girl driver
I think its Maria Conchita Alonso.
+Tarzan Sav I always wondered that to. It's not Maria Conchita Alonso.
