Biggest issue with this lens isn't the hood, it's the 1 meter minimum focusing distance; for this reason alone, buy the v3 which doesn't suffer from this problem.
Love the "In the hands" review! The 50mm lux is probably the only 50mm focus length glass I would like to own, so it is helpful to know how it looks on both bp and silver bodies.

Thank you!! Really glad you enjoyed it! Right now I'm at home with a 21+35, for the longest time it was 28+50! For wider lenses I really love the sweet spot that 21mm gives.. I have a full video coming on that in June! :) If I had the spare cash, I'd definitely look into the Leica 21 F1.4 (huge though..) or the F2.8, but I find myself shooting in low light situations too much that F2.8 wont be practical, (I'm limited to ISO 800 with Fomapan). Till now, my main 21mm has been the Voigtlander 21 f1.8.. Great on colour and digital, but with B&W it has a bit more contrast than I'd like.. If I had a Camera Genie, I'd ask for a 21 summicron 😂 but for now but for now, I'm "making do" :) Another great 21 option is the Ricoh GR21 LTM mount, if I didn't need F1.8 I'd definitely be using that!
Keep these type of videos coming! Curious on 2 things. 1) What made you choose v2, over say v3? 2) Is there enough "glow" / "character" in this pre-asph version to justify replacing my asph version which I find great, but rather boring with this pre-asph.
Hello! Between the two, the ASPH has more clarity, sharpness, and in a sense, three dimensionality. The pre-A doesn’t have much glow, but it does has slightly less contrast and saturation.. and I wouldn’t say it has “more”, but a different kind character. (Unlike the pre-A 35 lux which has a ton) I really like the ASPH too! At one point I had them both, but eventually sold the ASPH, mainly due to price (back then the ASPH was much more expensive), and the ergonomics always bugged me, i could never really get on with the non locking hood.. Also, the v2 goes well with film. But if they were the same price, and if I were still primarily using digital, I’d personally chose the ASPH! Hope that helps! :)

@@lifeandmylens Ahhh. Yes it's really hard to find something like 35 pre-a but in 50.. I had the F1 for awhile and it doesn't do it either 😂.. I think if you're looking for something like that, maybe check out the 50mm f1.5 LTM, or something from the 60s with less coatings! Probably the V1 50 lux too!
