This is a bummer but you’re a good man for sharing your experience. I grew up going to Road America and did my first track events there. I’ve seen the kink claim all sorts of drivers and cars. I can imagine how hard it is to lose something you love like this but again, you’re doing a great thing by sharing your experience. As someone who buy Hagerty track insurance, I’ve always wondered if they would stick to it and so this is incredibly reassuring to hear. Thank you!
I'm glad my misfortune can at least shed some light on the scenario. When it happened I started searching "what now" on the web and nothing popped up. I figured I would make this video so that hopefully when someone else DOES have to use it, they can at least watch this and it may help calm their nerves.
@remissiveslave the track has been completely repaved this year. It’s just a blind, off-camber corner that you have to commit to, otherwise it can get sketchy. Comes at you faster than most expect.
Thanks for posting this. Tons of useful information I wasn’t aware of. Sorry about the crash but thankfully you’re still in good health. Best wishes on your future events!
Thank you! This is exactly why I made the video. I remember sitting in the paddock wondering “what do I do now?” and started searching UA-cam and Google with no real results. I’ve got my 2022 SS 1LE now and should be back on track in Spring of 2022!
Sorry about the accident, thanks for taking the time to share your experience. I admire your ability to stay light-hearted with the boat/Challenger comment.
I am SO sick of watching shitty videos on YT. THIS was not shitty. Well done and sorry for your loss. You might think about telling people how much you paid for your policy and the deductible so they may come to a better understanding of how track day insurance works and the real value. Again, thank you for the good content
Thank you! Fun fact, only your first sentence showed up in the comment previews and it made me laugh out loud! Glad I opened it up and read the rest of your comment. 😁
Why be a douchebag to what is clearly a nice guy providing people with helpful info? I don't know the track but lines look fine. Slower drivers were handled appropriately. Had some understeer and hit grass and lost control. He is not the first and won't be the last. And yeah you can see my race videos. Post your expert videos or shut the hell up you child.
Good video Brother! Been there . . . done that. My mistake was undervaluing my C5 Caged track car. Due to that it was totaled as well. I know the empty feeling when it's not at home. I bought it back and got it fixed. And learned some valuable lessons. Best of luck!
1988 I was racing Road America in the CCS motorcycle race. I was on a '92 CBR F2 that was tricked out. Back then, during practice sessions we could be on the track at the same time with the AMA Pros. I was following Eric Bostrom through the Carousel and into the Kink (yes back then motorcycles ran the Kink) and went wide into the grass. I luckily saved it but my feet were up over the back seat at one point. Love Road America!
How did you get a 1992 CBR in 1988?! 😜 Just kidding, I’m assuming you meant 1998. That would be a wild ride. I previously had two different R6’s, but never managed to get them on track.
@@FollowMyLine17 😜Correct 1998 lol. A bike on track is an amazing feeling. First time getting knee down and actually learning how to properly downshift and keep revs up at the same time is a blast. Road America is an amazing track for bikes.
Total bummer. Thanks for sharing the track day insurance process and experience. Tough to see now though cars come and go and that’s part of being an enthusiast. It’s just rough when it’s not by choice. Thanks for sharing so the rest of the community can learn. 👍🏻
That sucks. Glad you weren't hurt and that the insurance did the right thing. I've had a few close calls at HPDEs. It's... not thrilling. Hope you got back on the horse.
I have just started tracking my car for the first time, and done 2 events so far this summer. I also have an SS 1LE. I can definitely see that when the adrenaline gets pumping and heart beating, you can get into a corner hotter than you anticipated. Especially at a track like Road America and with a car like this. I will be buying track insurance and put more awareness towards staying calm and focused while driving, because of this video. I'm sorry this happened to you but thank you for uploading and sharing your story. Good luck in the future with your new car!
Thanks! Other things to keep in mind about track insurance are the uncontrollable events. Brake failure, oil spill from another car, another car spins and hits you, etc. As for the new car, I’ve already been back to RA and set a new personal best!
@hb-ol9oc you got it! 2022 2SS 1LE. Ordered it and picked it up new. Check out some of the newest videos! I ended up running a 2:30 at Road America last fall.
Thanks for sharing this all. I love watching the in-car video, even knowing the wreck is coming. I 'raced' at RA ~ 15 years ago before I had kids. Your video reminded me how I got a little squirrely there at the Kink once but (I think) the AWD of my WRX allowed me to pull my drivers side wheels off the grass and back onto the track.
Scott Tendering it was a hard video to make but I thought it would cover some questions others might have, that I myself had after it happened. Glad your WRX was able to race another day!
Having been a 5 time camaro / firebird owner, the best thing i ever did was switch to a WRX for my track car. I have yet to be passed by a 1LE or regular camaro and the costs to upgrade are very manageable. Chassis is very well behaved. No wagging stuff
Props on the video. Anyone who has tracked for a while knows that you have to be psychologically prepared that anything can happen, even to the most experienced drivers. While the risk of injury and crashes are really low, it's not zero. This is why we have insurance, helmets, harnesses, hans devices, tech inspections, etc. Good to know how the process works and how leaving car at the track is a viable option (assuming you can hitch a ride or rent a car). Bottom line is that you were ok and everything worked as intended when things didn't go as planned! It's such a fun hobby...hope you get on the track again soon!
Thanks for the kind words. It's always in the back of your mind, and a "known" scenario, I just never expect it to play out for me. Now it has, and my plan is to have it be the last time lol.
I wrecked my ZL1 at VIR and had Lockton and they were awesome-car was totaled and claim resolved in 2 weeks. Was able to replace the car quick before wife tried to change my mind
First, I’m glad you are ok and here to post about it! Second, I’ve heard great things about Lockton. I haven’t personally used them, but they seem to be the three major players. I’ve used Hagerty as mentioned in the video and I’ve also used OpenTrack.
WOWW, I definitely felt your pain brother when I watched the video, man I almost CRIED myself. I just hope in the future you get back at it, definitely happy about the insurance company. I will look into the coverage.
Thanks! I am back out there and completed my first track weekend last week. Back to Road America as well. Check out my fast lap here! ua-cam.com/video/LDLzv-xc5AU/v-deo.html
My wife works at Hagerty, and I always wondered how using their track day insurance would go. Glad it was sorted out well, hopefully you get another 1LE!
I've done about 40 HPDE track events (Porsche and now TA GT1) and have a racing license. That means I know a bit about what happened here. Street cars are a bit insipid in that they are heavy (they have a tendency to drift wide in high speed sweepers) and typically run, "track," focused street rubber. This means they will typically, "talk," to you (squeal) before they let go. Too, warming them up is not as critical as a slick. That said, it is still VERY important to take the time to warm you tires and brakes up (a Miata can catch me in a corner with cold tires/brakes) BEFORE you start pushing the car's limits. If you are in a hurry (pretty much always a bad idea) you can expedite adhesion by dragging your brakes a bit (on of the tricks pro drives and racers know very well). If you have tire pressure monitors (I don't), keep and eye on them. When they get up to temp., start pushing...slowly.
I think I was more in shock right when it happened, more than anything else. I loved that car so when I found out the adjuster totaled it I think is when I got that sickening feeling in my gut. Luckily it wasn’t worse and I didn’t collect anyone else in the wreck. The new metal will be tested out in a short few weeks, back at the same place!
@@FollowMyLine17 - I feel you my man, I still miss my car a lot! Hope things go well when you return, I know to be honest that I struggled going through the section of track where I wrecked at VIR for a while, but gratefully I am now back to full speed there now, just took a couple of trips!
I vintage race at Road America; the Kink always has its victims each year. Glad to hear the insurance did you well, and you have a very nice line around RA!
Sorry man. I made some comments on some of your older videos. I also just totaled out my 18 hyper blue 1le this spring. It's a bummer to deal with, in many ways. Good luck. Hopefully you get back out there. FYI. I went right out and bought a new 2020. It helped me get my mind off the wreck.
Man I just totaled a car last year on the road, not on the track, it was the first time I've ever just lost control and crashed a car in my entire life. The sudden shock of "My car is gone" is immense. Like I got out of my car, saw it, and my brain just kept saying just walk home and get in the car in the garage. Like what I saw in front of me wasn't real, while at the same time I knew it was real. It was one of the most bizarre sensations I've ever had where my brain just couldn't except what happened. I think there's also the general expectation that you'll always have your car until you choose to get sell it and move on, and suddenly losing it is a real punch to the gut. I can only imagine how people must feel walking out to a parking lot and trying to come to the realization that their car was stolen. Also, the hit to the ego. I've never done anything in my life that knocked me down about 20 pegs like crashing my car did. As a car person the sheer embarrassment of it was enough to make me second guess things and also leave stability control on while on the street. The sensation of 'it only takes one tiny mistake and it's over' will be with me for a long time, if not forever. It was a corner that I've been around time and time again, just one little thing that must've changed in whatever I was doing was all it took. That said, about the 'cost of the damage' from the insurance, I was in the same boat. It was a $58k car, granted it was a hard hit to the side of the car, but they estimated $35k in parts. Talk about a markup on parts MSRP. You could've disassembled the car and made more than that back in parts alone if you wanted to. Glad you're ok for sure and you're back in the seat.
The experience is definitely one that is unique. It’s not like those other scenarios you described, so I understand where you are coming from. Hopefully you are back at it now and in another car you love!
Glad you're okay! Thanks for sharing your experience. Pretty sure I was there that weekend, it was basically the first track day for everyone after Covid landed and folks are eager to have fun again. The kink I always worry about. In fact I have a video of an Aston Martin passing me after the kink, spinning out, and going into the wall backwards the same way. I also use RLI and had wondered how good the insurance actually was. I'll keep paying for it hoping i'll never need it. It takes balls to share your story, I appreciate it. Good luck with your new ride for next season!
@@FollowMyLine17 I ran on Sunday with E46 M3 in red group. I'm guessing you ran on Saturday, we heard there were several incidents that day. Sunday was clean, no wrecks that I was aware of.
GotThrottle I ran on Sunday as well, but in a black widebody Hellcat Challenger. He ran in red group as well, and let me do a couple of sessions in yellow. Love your car btw!
I feel your pain bro. I crashed by Cobalt SS at RA years ago, but without any insurance. Luckily only hit a tire wall vs concrete so it was just a lot of body damage that didnt affect driveability but it still sucked
In the video you can see how the Camaro understeers at the entrance to the curve and there it becomes difficult to control the matter.... Good video and quality...!!
You need a car with crazy amount of downforce to take that kink flat and if you make a mistake you are goner. I have a 911 turbo and I lift way before you did in that kink. I can match your speeds in most of the turns but have higher speeds on main straights. I don’t typically get insurance since I run only 6-9 events HPDE per year which isn’t much. I rarely approach the limit of what the car can do and I leave the assists on unless it’s a track I know like the back of my hand. Appreciate you sharing your experience. It’s always good to hear insurance steps up to help. Please share an update on the car.
So sorry to hear that man.. Your videos make me want to move up into American muscle.. You rip in that thing.... Keep updating us on your future cars and what not
Thanks for posting, I just went off at turn 10 at BIR (Donnybrook) this past weekend and am feverishly trying to piece it all together and deal with the mental and emotional aftermath. I was actually at RA the previous weekend, that's a tight scary section at the kink! I'd be interested in a follow up video or information on how you move forward, get back on track and deal with extra anxiety surrounding your track driving after hitting the wall. It's a gift when we're physically ok, but there's a lot more to deal with after the fact.
Hey Andy, glad to hear you are OK. I haven’t run the Donnybrooke, but I just ran the Competition Course a few weeks ago (ua-cam.com/video/UKg3D_o3L0A/v-deo.html). You are absolutely correct, on the anxiety and other thoughts that go through your head when you get back on track. I honestly don’t know that if my friend hadn’t throw me the keys to his Widebody Hellcat the very next day and told me to get out there, that I’d be as apt to go back out now, like I do. I was hesitant coming up to the kink again, and I almost target-fixated on the wall the very next time out. Even a year later when I took another friends car, I almost had to vocally remind myself to take it easy through the kink. I got lucky, and my reaction time kept me from going head-on into the wall. Cars can be replaced, but long-term injuries are another thing altogether.
So sorry to see this, Road America can reach out and bite you. The kink is a beast. I’m glad you are ok and your experience with the insurance went well. For what it’s worth I love my ‘19 Grand Sport. First day out on the Autobahn North I took over two full seconds off of my PB
HPDE Fun thanks! As much as I would love a GS, right now I need something with at least 4 seats. Got two little boys that love going for car rides, and it would break my heart to not be able to take them with me for random car cruises, birthday drive-bys, etc.
I did a track day there in my 2017... glad I didn't have to use it but I also had track day insurance. Ill always have track day insurance for this reason! Glad youre ok!
future62 that sucks man! The benefit I had there is that the car wasn’t my daily driver. I’m glad you are ok as well. That was my first time buying track insurance too. I will ALWAYS buy it from now on.
@@FollowMyLine17 The sucky thing is I had 2 good runs before, and the organizers recommended the insurance right before the 3rd run, when I crashed. You live and you learn though. I meant to ask, how much was the coverage and what was the value they covered?
Hey I also have a 1 LE, amazing car. I track mine often and always get TD insurance. I feel your pain, these cars are very fast, I can imagine, its easy to make a minor mistake, that can become a big mess. Good luck!!
Just watched your video. I feel you pain.I have been tracking a long time and it’s not a matter of “if” but “when” you have an accident. The only thing that matters is you walked away with out any injuries. Yes you have a bruised ego but make sure you carefully evaluate what you did wrong. Learn from the accident. What could you have done differently if any at all. Lastly get back in the seat. First time through the kink take it easy and build you confidence. I stuff my Vette into the tire wall at T-12 (Oak Tree ) at VIR. The next time on track I was racing W2W and going through T-12 I was nervous. But two laps later I was pushing hard and making passes through the same turn. Road America is on my bucket list!
I appreciate your words, thank you! I was fortunate enough to have a friend throw me the keys to his car the very next day, and told me to take it through and get back on the horse. It helped tremendously! I have been back since with other cars, and I cannot wait to get my new car back out on the track through the kink in May of 2022!
@@FollowMyLine17 Glad you got back on track the next day. The Camaro is a great car. I considered ZL1 for while after a track day event at Daytona. They are fast and handle well. The down force with the front splitter and big wing was amazing through the Bus Stop. But in the end I couldn’t part with my C6Z/Z07!😁 I’ll sub to keep up with your videos.
@@tomatobob1 I appreciate that very much! If you check my channel I had the pleasure of doing Mid-Ohio in a C7 GS and it was fantastic. If I didn’t need the extra 2 seats for the kids, I would have ordered a C8 or found a C7!
I'm sorry that happened to you, glad you are ok. Thank you for sharing the details of the Hagerty insurance, I purchased that at an event I ran at DCTC. I will look forward to your new car next year!
Sorry to see this, but glad you're ok. I'm surprised it was totaled. The damage didn't seem so bad as to warrant that. As you mentioned, you were carrying too much speed into that corner and turned in too late as you also mentioned. You were on throttle almost until the last marker & only scrubbed off 10mph. Once you hit the the grass (while turning )you didn't stand a chance to save it. Again, glad you're ok and you learned something. You'll be back soon enough and this will all be a distant memory! Good Luck. PS, as someone else mentioned, best to get right back into something!
rleader1 thanks! Definitely not a story I wanted to include in my “resume” but hey, now I have a story to tell, or a conversation to join in on that most do not.
Great video, and props for posting all the details. This truly hurt me to watch. I know personally what this all means to you, and I’ve always been proud to watch you run, and tell people how good you are; hell, I let my wife ride with you lol. Can’t wait to see what you do next, brother.
Thanks brother. It was painful to experience first hand. I always tone it down a few notches when I have others in the car with me though, so your wife was never in danger (from my driving anyway, lol)
Aw man that's unfortunate to see. Glad you're OK and at least it's nice that you had cooperative track insurance. Good luck on figuring out the next toy :)
The most important thing is that you walked away with only a bruised ego. Was contemplating buying a 1LE because of your channel. Hope you get something fun to play with next year!! Hope to pick up my 2019 PP1 Mustang with Magneride in a few weeks!!
I know I’m super late, (and this might be suuuper stupid) but as a genuine question: would not having abs, and locking up the brakes, as you were fishtailing and still had forward momentum, would have just stopped the car from gripping back to the left and stopped it from hooking and kept it away from the wall?
That’s a great question! Had I not had ABS, I would have locked them up and ended up head first into the wall on the right hand side instead of being able to “potentially” save it by gripping. The issue I had was over-correcting the rotation, which caused me to loop it and send it to the left. Outside of actually saving it, I ended up in the best position for my safety by hitting the concrete wall rear end first. Had I hit the wall on the right, it would have been at a much, much higher speed and potentially much worse for my body.
I crashed almost the same way a few days ago at Laguna Seca turn 6. Went wide a little bit and got on the dirt. Over corrected and shot me onto the tire wall.
Sorry to hear about your misfortune but I'm glad to hear you physically unscathed! Thanks for sharing your experience with Hagerty's track day insurance.
Sorry to see - but most importantly you're ok. Thanks for sharing, I use Hagerty when I track my 1LE, good to know that if it comes to worst case scenario, they are good to deal with. I've been off the track this year too (due to unemployment), 2021 can't come soon enough lol! looking forward to seeing what you get next spring too!
Sucks sitting there in your baby after the crash. I felt your pain. Crashed my 2015 5.0 4 months after I bought it on wet roads. I was so pissed I walked home (about 6 miles) after the flat bed hauled it off.....I just pondered my dumb mistake the whole walk home.
I had to sit there for safety reasons. Can’t get out of a car on a hot track unless the car is on fire. Sorry about your Mustang, what did you replace it with?
@@FollowMyLine17 well a 2016 of course!! But I hurried and got a model that didn’t have all the options my 2015 did….so I traded in for the 2017 you see to the left. The Ford dealer said I was the only person to have owed a 15, 16, and 17 5.0. Lol Love that car…..
Rear quarter panels on Camaros are total losses. Got rear ended at 45mph and destroyed my rear end and right QP on 3yo Camaro with 20k miles and was a total loss.
If you would of held the steering wheel in the position where you first corrected, it would of been perfect, but I guess it felt weird and you did another half rotation, bad luck
Yes, lots of coulda, woulda, shoulda’s. I for sure over corrected, but in the moment it felt like what I needed to do to get the car pointed straight. It ALMOST worked too. The second correction is what saved me from going head on into the concrete wall on the right hand side, so I’m thankful for that.
Thanks for sharing, glad to hear you were OK and the track insurance worked as it should...I've always wondered. Hope to see you at Road America in 2021 with the new ride. As the snow hits early in the midwest, plenty of time for research! BMW M maybe???
Thanks Todd! I’ve actually done some test drives already and the M2 Competition was on that list. Fun ride, just not sure it’s worth the bang for the buck. It’ll be interesting to see what the Mach 1 can do once that is available; but right now I’m leaning towards another SS 1LE.
@@FollowMyLine17 Glad to hear. And thanks for the insurance info. I am on a dealer's list for a C8 Z06 to get back to driving at Road Atlanta. Hopefully I never need to use the insurance but it is always reassuring to have it.
Great content and info. Thanks so much. Yes I’ve asked many of these questions to myself while driving VIR or Charlotte Motor Speedway. I go with a different insurance agency but still reputable & well known. Haha still can’t believe you didn’t swear or vocalize at all immediately after the crash. I would’ve been verbally beating myself up.....
Great decision. It’s not even about your ability. It’s about knowing you’ll be covered is someone loses it and drives into you, or if there is a fluid spill in front of you and you become a passenger. The peace of mind knowing that at least the car is covered is worth the cost.
The important thing is that you made out ok and no injuries nor concussions. The rear glass didn’t break I am impressed by the quality of the car ! Seriously. I laughed so hard with your reaction when you mentioned about the Mustang. Hahaha I got couple questions for you. 1. What app were you running on your phone? Looks like your car didn’t have the PDR? I am on the fence about this because I am in the process of getting one. 2. What kind of deals are there for the 2022 1LE? Are you able to save some money? Before the pandemic some people got almost $10K off on the brand new 1LEs Btw great video. Love the quality of it.
Thanks! I appreciate that. The car held up substantially well, but I hit hard enough to do frame damage and total the car. 88 mph into concrete and it looked like a basic fender bender. Kudo’s to GM on that. To answer your questions, no that particular car did not have PDR and I was using the Harry’s Lap Timer app and a GoPro. I’ll drop a link to a video where I cover all the equipment. As far as deals go, I was able to get my 2022 2SS 1LE w/ PDR and a few other options for MSRP. Less actually, but that’s a different story.
Sorry for your loss, dude. I know how you feel. My question is this: Did the power of attorney specify that it was Only valid for that one particular transaction? And did it automatically end after the transaction was complete? Power of attorney is nothing to screw around with casually.
I too went off in the kink several years ago. Luckily I kept it straight in the grass (in my worst video on UA-cam). Totally my mistake. Tried to take it flat in my GTI and just pushed wide. So I know that feeling more than most. I really appreciate you sharing such a tough experience with us to keep us better informed. I’ve always been terrified on what will/won’t be covered. Thank you for your video! Good luck to you in the future. Did they give you the option to buy your car back?
Yeh I saw that one coming soon as you entered the turn. Good driving though man just came in a little too hot 🔥 on that one corner. Keep track racing your too good to give it up 😁👍👍💯
I will always get track insurance from now on. It’s not always what YOU are in control of. I had a friend lose the brakes on his car and T-bone another vehicle. He had insurance, the other vehicle did not. I’ve also seen someone dump trans fluid on the track and the car behind spun out and slid into the tire barrier. It’s not always on “you” that you have to worry about. You will for sure see me at BIR in the future. I have my order for a 2022 2SS 1LE placed!
Glad you were able to walk away, and thanks for going through the insurance process. I buy my track policies through them too. I was wondering how you get track insurance in the future, at the end of the form they ask if you've made a claim in the last year or so (i forget the exact amount of time).
Thank you, and no problem! I believe you get 2 claims with them and then they won’t cover you anymore. That’s all speculation as I don’t know for sure and it’s hearsay. I’m sure you cost of insurance goes up for future events as well. I’ll find that out eventually.
Wow doesn't take much to total a car I guess. Good thing you were smart and had insurance. Sorry about your loss. Thanks for posting video. I'm looking to do more than just karting & thinking about getting a Rush SR track car. I will defiantly be using Hagerty insurance. Gorgeous car, cant bring myself to hitting the like button but I will do it because of the insurance info. you provided.
That is why I made the video. After the wreck I was searching and searching for the “what’s next” and couldn’t find anything out there. If I can help ease someone’s mind, it’s worth it. Thanks for the like!
Sorry that happened. Car sounded sick. Was hoping to hear more about the actual pay out. That the whole point of insurance. How long? You got the full agreed value no questions asked?
Thanks! That’s just the factory exhaust. Yes, they gave me the full agreed upon value, less the deductible. I thought I covered that in the video but maybe I overlooked it. It took about 2.5 weeks in total to get the payout.
@@yuniw5023 yes it’s totaled. I hit the wall with the passenger side at roughly 88 mph, which was enough to cause damage to the driver side of the car. It shifted the entire rear subframe over.
Dam bro thanks for posting the video! I just got an 1ss stick to play around with... Did you do a video on what went wrong? like a break down of what happened , and any tips you have for driving on the track...... You were doing so great man would love to learn from your channel!
@@FollowMyLine17 ok thanks, yeah it looks like you got a little too confident after smoking passed the mustang. all good tho! can't wait for new videos with the 2022 , take care
Hey man, sorry for your loss! Late response, but did this make your insurance policy on your daily driver go up? Or was it totally separate? Have you been on track again since?
This didn’t affect my regular insurance at all. Track day insurance is completely separate from regular coverage. Yes, I have been back on track since. I was in my friends Hellcat the very next day, and have a few videos in a Corvette, other Camaro’s, etc. I was recently at Autobahn CC. Subscribe to the channel, I’ll have more content coming soon!
@@401nate2 I haven’t tracked an EVO before but I’ve driven a few. I can promise you won’t regret the SS 1LE as a track vehicle. Visibility isn’t an issue if you get a 2SS either, because the rear view mirror is a camera that covers all the blind spots. Check out some of my other vids. Lots of in-car footage from track days.
Thanks for the informative video. Im going through an RLI claim right now (with Zach), and I was wondering if you were asked to send a video of the incident? If you sent them a video, did it give you any complication?
I don’t remember them asking for any video of the incident. Not everyone records their own sessions so I’m not sure why they would ask. I didn’t even have to send pictures iirc as they had an appraiser go to the track to look at the car. I hope that helps. Sorry about your car, hopefully you are doing ok yourself and were not injured.
@@chubby_miata no problem! I would say that is between you and your lap timer. The video shouldn’t need to be shared, especially since not everyone records sessions. It shouldn’t make a difference.
@@FollowMyLine17 I’m late so this is probably sorted but I think lying about the video and/or lap timer would be insurance fraud. Lockton doesn’t tell you this upfront (I couldn’t see it) but fortunately I asked. If you use a laptimer for any reason you have to pay for the TT coverage. I let them know I wasn’t going to be comparing my times to anyone else and the event was a regular hpde event and they didn’t care. Would really suck to find out your coverage is void bc of something like that
@@sportbikejesus personally keeping track of your own time, with a stop watch, digital timer, app, PDR, etc. is not the same as a Time Trial. Not sure what you are referring to but I was very up front with Hagerty when this happened. This wasn’t a TT event, and they offer different coverage for TT events. A DE is very different than a TT. You should absolutely register for and insure your car for a TT event if that is what you are running.
Luan Zeqollari this is how I have been getting my policy, by what I owe plus the deductible. I didn’t think about replacement cost. So basically they gave you what you insured the car for minus the 10% or 15% chosen? If yes, seems pretty straight forward which isn’t typical of an insurance company lol. I use RLI directly as opposed to going through Hagerty. It’s good to they won’t give anyone he runaround.
justinh_13BS that is correct. In the end, after the deductible was withheld I ended up owing $1,700 on the car. If I were to do it again I would insure it to cover the deductible too, so that I didn’t come out of pocket at all, or enough to buy a new car if needed.
Sorry for your loss on the car. I track a Shelby GT350 so I've bought track insurance many times. Were you liable for any track damage to the wall you hit? Thanks man.
I gave all my track insurance coverage information to Road America, so I truly do not know the answer. I never received a bill or invoice for the concrete barriers (watch my recovery video, you can see the heavy equipment move the 4 concrete barriers back into place) or for the medical care I received afterwards at Road America’s medical center.
@@FollowMyLine17 interesting and glad you're ok man. I put my Shelby into the wall at Road ATL and just did a little paint transfer. Nothing major at all. Just skimmed the wall and the track charged me $385. I could have covered up the paint transfer in less than 5 minutes and made it look Brand new. I was just curious cause I think I got ripped off. Live n learn... just subbed! Be careful out there buddy
@@316racingchannel9 thanks! I subbed as well. I should have some upcoming footage from Autobahn CC soon. I think you paid more for the labor than actual materials. I need to get back out to Road Atlanta as the last time I was there I was in a significantly slower car.
@@FollowMyLine17 you get back down this way please let me know. We'll definitely hook up! I'm gonna go back and catch up on all your videos. I'm looking forward to it. Take care buddy!!
Lloyd Slichenmyer the car had a Holley iNtech cold air intake. The rest was stock aside from brake fluid and brake pads. Tires were the stock Goodyear Supercar 3 tires (285 up front and 305 in rear).
Man.. that exhaust sound on the upshifts, I've never heard DSG farts on a manual before Lol.. sick. Is that no lift shifting or something similar that's causing that? Awesome car man.. sucks that you wrecked, but at least you enjoyed it to the fullest.. also, awesome in car footage, great video overall.
“At one point he asked me the make and model of my boat and I said I wasn’t driving a challenger” 😂😂
"He asked what make and model my boat was, and I told him I wasn't driving a Challenger" LOL
Is there a minor elevation drop or bump that's noticeable while hitting the apex? In forza 7 the car seems to get unsettled by uneven groove of road.
@remissiveslave the track has been completely repaved this year. It’s just a blind, off-camber corner that you have to commit to, otherwise it can get sketchy. Comes at you faster than most expect.
@@remissiveslave my car is too slow to really notice it. However, they repaved last fall/winter and I hear the bump is more pronounced now
@TrackMouse34 there are almost no bumps now. Even the brake point bump under Corvette bridge is gone.
Thanks! For what it’s worth, I’ve owned 3 Challengers and my daily driver was an AWD GT when I wrecked that Camaro, so it’s all in good fun.
Track Day insurance check, learning to drive, priceless.

Thank you! Hopefully others learn from this video on the process of track day insurance, if they ever need it.
Thanks for walking folks through your experience.
You bet!
Thanks, I was hoping it would help someone in the future.
“I wasn’t driving a Challenger!” Lol. Glad you kept your sense of humor.
Thanks, it came from a place of love! I have owned 3 and tracked 4 different Challenger’s.
That sucks. Glad you weren't hurt and that the insurance did the right thing. I've had a few close calls at HPDEs. It's... not thrilling. Hope you got back on the horse.
Thank you! I have for sure gotten back on the horse. I’ve been back several times since.
124mph entrance 🤯🤯🤯 glad you're ok and insurance worked out!
Tim Fleury yeah, maybe under different circumstances and tires this may have worked 😬
@@FollowMyLine17 What is your new car ? Another Camaro I bet, they are the greatest new muscle/sport cars in my opinion.
I may have the opportunity to drive one on track this year. I’ll report back my thoughts! Thanks for the insight.
I race there. The drivers meeting begins with “respect the kink - it’s a real turn” and ends with “respect the kink - it’s a real turn”.
“If you’re not sure where the kink is, it’ll find you.”
@@Glockcoma1I think you misunderstood the replies here. I know exactly where The Kink is. 😉

Thanks! 2022 2SS 1LE is already on order. TPW is 8/21/21.
Thanks for sharing your experience.
All excellent points! I definitely made the crucial mistake of rushing, for absolutely no reason. I learned a lot from this incident.
I’ve had it happen to me as well, it’s a sickening feeling! Just glad you’re OK!!
Thanks! I’m always up for critique, so if you see anywhere I can improve in my other videos, I’m all ears. What kind of car do you vintage race?
Sorry man. I made some comments on some of your older videos. I also just totaled out my 18 hyper blue 1le this spring. It's a bummer to deal with, in many ways. Good luck. Hopefully you get back out there. FYI. I went right out and bought a new 2020. It helped me get my mind off the wreck.
Sorry to hear about your 1LE. Glad to hear you're back out there!

I feel your pain bro. I crashed by Cobalt SS at RA years ago, but without any insurance. Luckily only hit a tire wall vs concrete so it was just a lot of body damage that didnt affect driveability but it still sucked
I believe it. Were you able to fix it on your own?
Held that throttle just about 2 seconds to long there ... making damn good laps to that point though, very entertaining to watch. 😁
He let off the throttle to long and ass end came out. Tricky turn there....

Good stuff! Congrats on the Mustang!
Glad you're ok and the track insurance works. I was out looking at racing seats, 6 point harness, hans etc today. Going to up my safety game
Good call!
Did the track charge you anything for hitting the wall or lawn damage?
Zadnak1 concrete wall didn’t budge.... all I did was add a new color to the Kinks palette.
Ouch. Glad you are okay.
Thanks! I appreciate that.
Oh man, sorry to hear that. Hopefully you are ok. The car can be replaced.
Sorry to hear about your misfortune but I'm glad to hear you physically unscathed! Thanks for sharing your experience with Hagerty's track day insurance.

I've tracked my gt500 twice without TD insurance now...
i think im never gonna do that again now
Great decision. It’s not even about your ability. It’s about knowing you’ll be covered is someone loses it and drives into you, or if there is a fluid spill in front of you and you become a passenger. The peace of mind knowing that at least the car is covered is worth the cost.
What a bad crash as the kink? Not possible. I know this isn't popular, but that track needs an update to the RH side runoff there.
I believe they did make some updates on the right hand side when they repaved this year.
The important thing is that you made out ok and no injuries nor concussions. The rear glass didn’t break I am impressed by the quality of the car ! Seriously.
I laughed so hard with your reaction when you mentioned about the Mustang. Hahaha
I got couple questions for you.
1. What app were you running on your phone? Looks like your car didn’t have the PDR? I am on the fence about this because I am in the process of getting one.
2. What kind of deals are there for the 2022 1LE? Are you able to save some money? Before the pandemic some people got almost $10K off on the brand new 1LEs
Btw great video.
The NUMBER 1 QUESTION Asked In ALL of My Videos // My A/V and Data gear!
ua-cam.com/video/GGOSnBjibwk/v-deo.html
I envy this part of your life!!! keep going and stay safe
Sorry for your loss, dude. I know how you feel. My question is this: Did the power of attorney specify that it was Only valid for that one particular transaction? And did it automatically end after the transaction was complete? Power of attorney is nothing to screw around with casually.
Yes, power of attorney was specific to handling that situation, and nothing else.
Ken Adams thanks for sharing! They did not give me the option, told me to bid on it at IAAI with everyone else.
Yeh I saw that one coming soon as you entered the turn. Good driving though man just came in a little too hot 🔥 on that one corner. Keep track racing your too good to give it up 😁👍👍💯
Thanks man! Definitely not giving up. New ride and first track day scheduled in May. You’ll see more content coming over the next few months
Wasn't going to purchase track insurance for my next few DEs but I think I've changed my mind thanks to you. Perhaps I'll see you at BIR sometime?
I will always get track insurance from now on. It’s not always what YOU are in control of. I had a friend lose the brakes on his car and T-bone another vehicle. He had insurance, the other vehicle did not. I’ve also seen someone dump trans fluid on the track and the car behind spun out and slid into the tire barrier. It’s not always on “you” that you have to worry about. You will for sure see me at BIR in the future. I have my order for a 2022 2SS 1LE placed!
7:13 I felt that
Glad you were able to walk away, and thanks for going through the insurance process.
@@FollowMyLine17 good to hear. Thanks for the reply!
Looks like you replaced it too. That’s awesome!
I did! After driving a few different vehicles, I ended up back in an SS 1LE because the value for the dollar was just unbeatable.
I'm sorry if I didn't catch this in your video but you still had to pay your 10% or 15% deductible, correct?
That is correct. I had to pay the 10% deductible out of pocket.
@@FollowMyLine17 Thanks for your reply and also thanks for sharing your experience with track insurance!
You really did a great job could’ve been a lot worst especially at that speed. Just gave it a love tap in the back
I tried my best, unfortunately that love tap was enough to move 3 of the concrete Jersey barriers and total the car...
@@FollowMyLine17 Is it totaled? The damage didnt seem bad enough to total the whole vehicle imo
@@yuniw5023 yes it’s totaled. I hit the wall with the passenger side at roughly 88 mph, which was enough to cause damage to the driver side of the car. It shifted the entire rear subframe over.
@@FollowMyLine17 damnn sorry it happened to you bro, hope u could walked out of the sorrow already, glad u werent hurt
@@yuniw5023 thanks! I’ll be back with a new ride in 2022.
Damn, the damage didn't look that bad. Sorry it was totaled. Also, where'd you get that sweet shirt?
Thank you, yes, the frame ended up being shifted over and they stopped counting the damage as it hit ~$27k. The shirt was from BlipShift!
Damn, dude. You were soo close to recovering.
Close, but no cigar!
Dam bro thanks for posting the video! I just got an 1ss stick to play around with... Did you do a video on what went wrong? like a break down of what happened , and any tips you have for driving on the track...... You were doing so great man would love to learn from your channel!
Break down is pretty simple. I went in too hot and missed my brake point. The car got unsettled on the curbs at the kink and I just couldn’t save it.
@@FollowMyLine17 ok thanks, yeah it looks like you got a little too confident after smoking passed the mustang. all good tho! can't wait for new videos with the 2022 , take care
Just curious what track/competition mode did you have the car set to?
Hey Paul, the car was in Track, PTM Race.
@@FollowMyLine17 Thanks for answering. Hopefully you are enjoying your 22. I just got my 23 1LE 2SS October 1st. The shipping delays where ridiculous!
Of course! Lots of videos already on the channel with the 2022. You’re going to love your 2023!
@@FollowMyLine17 right on! I track a 400hp evo x. Funny I stumbled across this video, I’ve been contemplating ditching the evo for a ss 1le
Awesome video, thanks for sharing
7:18 Look... He's going to cry!
Yeah, I came close. Reliving the moment with everyone, and remembering how hard it was to obtain the car, I sure did get emotional.
@@FollowMyLine17 I'm glad you didn't edit that out. Makes it real.
@@FollowMyLine17 thanks for letting me know! I had a lap timer running on my car so I am reluctant to share the video.
So no issues with the “agreed value?”
justinh_13BS no issues at all. If I had to do it again, I would have insured it for a full replacement instead of covering what I owe.
Absolutely! @@316racingchannel9
I feel like this came up on my feed for one reason or another. Better safe than sorry..
Get the insurance!
Did you have all the nannies turned off?
The car was in Track mode and the PTM was set to Race, so minimal Nannie’s.
What tire setup were you running and is the car stock?
Lloyd Slichenmyer the car had a Holley iNtech cold air intake. The rest was stock aside from brake fluid and brake pads. Tires were the stock Goodyear Supercar 3 tires (285 up front and 305 in rear).
Man.. that exhaust sound on the upshifts, I've never heard DSG farts on a manual before Lol.. sick. Is that no lift shifting or something similar that's causing that?
Awesome car man.. sucks that you wrecked, but at least you enjoyed it to the fullest.. also, awesome in car footage, great video overall.
Correct, NLS (No Lift Shift)
@@FollowMyLine17 Is that only available on the 1LE? That's pretty cool.
