As a main monk i am fucking elated right now, while i main Brew and dabble into MW... i am so happy for my walkers of the wind brothers on the other side man. You boys deserve this
Glad this happened this makes me excited to play WW monk again. I've always loved the class and the fantasy behind it. Plus the monks tier set for the first season in TWW looks DAM good.
Blizzard absolutely cooked with this rework, I'm too hyped! Like it's actually nuts that scaling, Auto Attacks problems from FoF, and canceling FoF was tackled in a single talent, but also the additional stuff like Glory of the Dawn will also scale purely off of Haste or Auto Attack synergies (hello Windfury Totem) is just the gift that keeps on giving at that point. I did like Serenity having dealt with buggy SEF for a decade, but I'll manage like before; we're at least getting part of Weapons of Order back.
I have never played monk. I have no intention of playing WW in S4 or war within. I watched this entire video simply because how excited Max was about it
My only frustration is that we most likely won't experience these monk changes for the Panda Timerunning event which is such a shame it would have been amazing to play fun monk again in the expack that started it all.
Its so heartwarming to hear how excited Max was about this rework, I hope it ends up being everything Windwalker has needed and Monk in general has needed. Hopefully other classes that need help still will get similar treatment in War Within.
Im surprised max didn't refer to ordered elements as weapons of order instead of referring to it as mini serenity. Especially since he really wanted weapons of order back.
already running into issues with this rework as expel harm is my favorite button to press because big healing myself, zapping an enemy for damage, and generating resource while keeping my mastery rolling on a button that i DONT need to keep on cooldown because its situational is literally everything you could ever ask for in a button so i absolutely will not be taking combat wisdom which is gonna be locking me out of so much stuff F
This tree looks amazing. Only one sticking points, without trying it. #1. Too many damage amps of different durations. 8 different damage amps from the class tree + spec tree. With different durations. Skytouch is still in the tree and is the biggest offender with 50% Crit amp on 6 sec duration. 1 minute "CD" and triggered by Tiger palm. Which has the effect of locking down your SED usage to 1 minute cycles, which reduces the flexibility and a lot of the fun of a major CD on a charge system. #2 Two big uncontrollable damage amps in Shado-Pan. Combined it's a 300% damage increase if it all lines up. Which is insanely high, and with uncontrollable procs on some of the damage amps it's a bit of a problem.
@@dracojay2596 Looking it over it actually feels fine in the first gate to be locked in on things. Because half of the first gate is the fresh player experience. You have 8 points in the first gate, 11 possible talents. So there's required things they want you to take as a fresh WW as you level. First 4 talent points are locked in, for pathing, and are essentially the main WW only ability, Fist of Fury, and the core WW passives they want you to always have. Momentum Boost for scaling with haste, plus fixing the auto-attack proc issue. Combat Wisdom: currently redesigned to be their attempt at removing the opener shenanigans that WW has to do to get enough chi, while also giving chi outside of combat for pack to pack movement. They could continue to change that if this version doesn't land. Acclamation: A ST tuning knob, plus a way to ensure that RSK never falls that behind the rotation that you just don't press it. That leaves you 4 points, then below Combat Wisdom. Flying Serpent Kick as a classic WW movement ability on the way to your CDs. This one could be removed and flying serpent kick made base for WW but it's not a big deal that it isn't, and it serves rhe purpose of introducing it early to new players. So 3 points to choose between 6 talents, 3 on the left on the way to AoE and 3 on tbe right on tne way to ST. Honestly one of the better designed First gates.

If wowhead is right, Jadefire Stomp no longer resets while standing in it for WW. So you only get the buff for 10 seconds. There's no way we'll be using that talent if it stays that way (and it should JFS can die in a pit of fire)
I will never be happy until blizzard finally gives ww fighting game inputs where the order in which you press your buttons opens up other buttons with a cd. Not directionals but make it matter when i press TP and BoK and RSK and what can unlock with the order pressed.
I don’t play windwalker, can someone explain why AOE touch of death was a bad thing? Was it just bad rotationally or something? Aoe touch always seemed cool to me idk
many reasons, the first few is that it does so much of your damage on packs you felt worthless until the last 15%, then because how it worked you couldnt immediately TOD, it had a weird delay when you selected a new target for it to register as usable, not to mention you could use it twice so if you pressed it once and your target died before you could do it again you were frantically trying to target another mob to use the second charge and the delay would screw you. it felt more like meter padding then it did actual damage and required many talent points for this to even be worth it. just felt like bad design because we would be bottom dps until 15% then shoot to the top with it cleaving
I know its only alpha and more rework will happen (hope so) why is druid/monk/pally get a rework again already? When classes like priest or even shammy needs a rework (ele/resto still with no raid buff and are not bring in raid for past 2 expansion)
i think before Shadowlands expectations were rather low. Of course it turned out the opposite due to overtuning I even remember where all monks were crying that devs had abandoned the spec and there was a period of a complete drought with zero blue posts about monks for months, while other classes were getting juicy updates weekly

And here he is, making a video talking specifically about Windwalker monk. Something seems fishy.........
unfortunately, I don't think that Combat Wisdom talent is an improvement, since Expel Harm doesn't give us chi anymore (unless we pick reverse harm as a pvp talent). So it's basically just little heal and that's it. At least now in DF you could get 3 chi from tiger palming every 15 sec. So it's a big L imho --edit: unless i'm wrong as much as the tooltip is. But people on monk discord say so, so i trust one of them has played alpha and spread the news :)
Ngl, I hate that they brought back weapons of order as a talent and didn’t make the chi cost reduction buff last longer. I mained WW in Castle Nathria and hated the ability. Any time you had to stop hitting the boss, either because you got knocked back or a mechanic required it, the buff would fall off and your rotation would be fucked.
@@wcranee9196 That’s not always possible. Smolderon for example, requires melee to regularly walk out of melee range of the boss to avoid the fire rings. It’s optimal to use your cds during that phase because of the damage buff you get from the orbs. You can’t control when the rings will spawn under you or ensure you always use rising sun kick before it happens. An example of a fight from Castle Nathria (The last time I mained my monk) where this was a problem was Artificer Xy’mox. At the start of the fight, you could randomly get targeted with the portal and have to run across the room to drop it, or get targeted by the ghosts and have to use the teleporter. You had no control over it and holding your cds until that mechanic was done meant you would lose a use of them over the course of the fight, hurting your dps more than you would just using them on pull.

I love expell harm for mastery... If I now have to pay attention if my character does the animation during a GCD ... no way I adjust to that during one global... Kinda meh on that.
while this looks amazing. They addressed a lot of the issues, and it's got a fair bit of freedom . . I still wont' play it, because of a few things most impactful - 1. Jadefire stomp. in no world does a 12% universal damge amplifier not get taken. this is a required and forced choice guaranteed. and is one of the most toxic things to actively play in the world. that alone is enough to tide me away from WW. 2. skytouch/skyreach - being a 60s timer is fine, and having the crit amplifier is fine. However, it's tide to your spam resource generator. so actively controlling when you'll get that boost is very irritating. and with how the crit modifier works with FoF > RSK. the 50% here is quite substantial. but the stars need to align for you to properly take and make use of it. 3. Dance of chi-ji. this skill and the rng behind it causes some real problems in any scenario with AoE. if it procs at the right time or if it doesn't then your overall damage can be wildly different on any situation over 1 target (even impactful at 1 target). The potential saving grace for this, is if WDP controls the resets entirely. and the max procs per minute is able to be fully manipulated with WDP. Still not enough to make me play Jadefire stomp in any world. 4. reset rng. it still takes a crit from RSK to reset FoF, instead of giving it a flat cdr on it. So actually controlling where you are in certain parts of the fight is hard. Especially important because of skytouch/skyreach and the reset nature of jadefire stomp. these 2 things only make the reset rng prominant. If those were gone, then the resets would add some solid freshness to keep it engaging, and I would probably enjoy them. but those things . . . god i hate them. Especially since you can force one with SEF. Although idk if you'll hold a RSK coming up into SEF just to double proc that. nor am i certain that you would hold SEF until it's reset. Mostly because you'll also be using xuen for 1/2 of those (why I think you'll always take the cdr talent for alignment rather than extended windows). and the ones with xuen you don't want to drift too much.
i could NOT watch the video with the adhd running around in the background. i got motion sickness haha. So I just listened and peaked at the screen a few times
I swear Blizz just cherry picked every reason I’ve never been able to bring myself to main WW and fixed it. I really hope they don’t do the typical Blizz move and design something perfectly then respond to the “we love this” chorus by nerfing it into oblivion and removing all the good bits.
Combat Wisdom is horrible! Not only does it remove your chance to freely heal when you want, 2 major cool downs are locked behind it. I understand it’s alpha, but how tf did they not see the issue with this immediately?
Maybe a hot take, but the level of complexity of this talent system is getting out of hand. There are way too many choices, way too many interactions. The best part of the old "MoP" talent system is that it was super easy to understand, and the choices were a lot more clear. The problem with the MoP system is Blizz just didn't understand what would make it work well (they made it more like choose between single target options, or choose between aoe options, when it should be to choose between aoe/st/cleave or whatever). The current system is just way over the heads of anyone that isn't a mythic raider, causing even more cookie cutter builds than before. I'm at the top end of heroic/bottom of mythic, and I just don't bother figuring out any of this crap myself, it's just a waste of time. Give me an import code for whatever setup is best for single target, aoe, etc and I'll import them and use them. Occasionally I'll swap one utility for another if needed, but that's it. Also I hate the interaction between ww mastery and WDP with a fucking passion. It is hard enough to do one or the other, but being able to consistently hit WDP close to on cooldown without dropping mastery is nearly impossible in a remotely stressful environment. I was so glad I never had to take WDP this expansion. This expansion was honestly the first time I've enjoyed WW since WoD. MW on the other hand is looking absolutely fantastic, really looking forward to playing it. Oh btw, rushing jade wind is super useful in mog runs and the like, really annoyed I can't use it that way anymore.
@@wcranee9196 how does it not fit? The only thing it doesn’t feel with is the new “mini serenity” which is just weapons of order like all ya gotta do is add a line of text for serenity

"im not going to spend a tonne of time on this" at roughly 2 minutes into a 34 minute video. Nice
for pvp, losing seren sucks. i dont really see the point in removing it off of a choice node
I swear Blizz just cherry picked every reason I’ve never been able to bring myself to main WW and fixed it. I really hope they don’t do the typical Blizz move and design something perfectly then respond to the “we love this” chorus by nerfing it into oblivion and removing all the good bits.
No more dashing towards your target with Tiger palm? I am out
Must feel good being a monk and not a dk right now... now the only doomers are dks, shamans and mm hunters
lezgooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Idk it seems like you lose a lot of ST swapping between aoe... 20% crane kick dmg is a lot.
I feel sick watching this
Yeah, the rotating and moving background is incredibly distracting.
Why would they keep night fae ability..😢
Kyrian/bonedust was way more fun
Looked way better atleast
Combat Wisdom is horrible! Not only does it remove your chance to freely heal when you want, 2 major cool downs are locked behind it.
I understand it’s alpha, but how tf did they not see the issue with this immediately?
Like ww needed some love…LOL
I hope they remove jade fire
wow vanilla still has the greatest talent trees 20 years later! Haha nu-blizz is trashnation
W
Just remember, they are VERY overtuned so expect big nerfs.
I just wanted to see you double jump at least once come on!
I’d rather just have serenity… changing costs of abilities outside of free is such bad design. Guess I won’t play WW. SEF is so trash maaaan
I feel you … but Serenity just doesnt fit here.. i hope they bring it back in the future in better shape 😉
@@wcranee9196 how does it not fit? The only thing it doesn’t feel with is the new “mini serenity” which is just weapons of order like all ya gotta do is add a line of text for serenity
would've preferred a real reaction but maybe it was nda or some shit.
Love u
I'm with asmon on this one. The best buff to the monk class is to completely remove it from the game. I know you like monk Max but it's beyond F- tier in wow.
Dude, be STILL. Your monk running around in circles while the talent screen is open gives me motion sickness, ffs.
Dude, I really wish you didn't constantly run and spin your character every few seconds while going through the tree...
This dudes robot brain tries sk hard to be relatable to normal people. He is constantly processing info through the prism of what should I say that the most normies will agree with or like. It's kinda weird to watch.
