It wasnt much of an upgrade from the first tho. The whole war simulation was underdeveloped. The combat leaves much to be desired. And even the story is weak and tired with boring characters. I liked it enough but it is inferior to the first.
Your video is fantastic! 🎮✨ The list of JRPGs with two battle systems is so well-curated and informative. I love how you explained each system clearly-it’s got me excited to revisit some classics and try new ones! Great job! 🌟
There is this JRPG for the PSP called Senritsu no Stratos (or "Terror of the Stratos") that has a beat'em up section for the levels where you can swap characters (some are melee and others are ranged, use Russian girl with big cannon), and a 3/4 top down view mech fight against giant monsters for the bosses, Evangelion-style. Too bad the game was Japan-only with no known translation, since it is also a Visual Novel, thus having lots and lots of text. Recommend to emulate either way. You can brute force it without much issue, which is what I did when I played it for the first time before I got to JLPT level 3 (Japanese Language Proficiency Test, level 3, aka Noryoku Shiken N3). And speaking of Evangelion, there was this N64 game that was essentially a Boss Gauntlet where each Angel (boss) had different mechanics, the most recurrent being the "one-on-one mech fight" ala 3D fighting game. Really cool game. Not a JRPG, but another game with several decently made mechanics. Very hard too, for the same reason. PD: I see what you did there for the outro. That's an overworld theme for Black Rock Shooter for the PSP. That's another JRPG with two battle systems: 1) The very interesting semi-turn based with those dodges and camera angles, and 2) the bike level, which is almost like a rail-shooter. Wish there were more levels like that, or one with the plane. But we know what happened to Imageepoch. Which is almost a pity. Except for Time and Eternity.
It's somewhat unrelated, but it's criminal that everything about Dot Hack is underrated. Both anime and game series are by underappreciated companies Studio Bee Train and Cyberconnect2.
Naval battles in Ys 10 got me really surprised. Yes, they are pretty terrible (as, tbh, are many things in this game), but it's nice to see the devs are still trying new things and making something different instead of, you know, repeating a decades-old formula (like so many jrpgs do)
I was intrigued by Super Ninja Boy enough to play it through to the end even if there were some balancing issues. Definitely preferred the beat 'em up segments. Gummi ship battles were never a huge part of kingdom Hearts, but I enjoyed the ones in 2.
Magic of Scheherazade for the NES has a Zelda like gameplay and RPG encounters when you switch screens. It was made by Culture Brain, the same developers of Little Ninja Brothers/Super Ninja Boy.. it’s quite fun if you can find it I highly recommended!

ill never understand why anyone would complain about drakengard 3's controls. i had zero issues with them and they felt quite natural and intuitive really. the fact that dodge cancels your current attack is also a major bonus, i cant stand when games force the attack to complete before allowing dodge. honestly, if it wasnt for the unnecessary sex jokes littered throughout the game, it would be a 10/10 easily
@@jpsaint5856 Tales, Star Ocean, or post-SEVEN Ys are action JRPGs, as is FF7R. Kingdom Hearts, Nier, and FF16 are action games. I might disagree with a some of your opinions on games but man never stop making these videos, appreciate you.
Ni No Kuni II is sadly very under appreciated. Absolutely loved it.

"Half Minute Hero" if it counts. Each character/campaign is a different combat: old school Ys bump combat, horizontal SHUMP, summon monsters RTS.
this video is amazing!! love it!
Currently playing Ys X, surely takes a bit of getting used to at the start but becomes quite nice overall, really wish we'd get Ys V Remake soon.
Oh, yeah. That instalment DESERVES the new battle style.
I dig Ni No Kuni 2… Feels like living/playing in a cartoon
@@S2V_Steve good thing it's made by Level 5 the Studio Ghibli game studio!

Hooray! I am so happy that Skies of Arcadia is on this list! That is my most replayed GameCube game that I wrote my own guides for.

Blue Dragon with its mechat combat deserves a mention.
Great video, but the ai thumbnail is not the vibe.
Waiting for trails of code steel to get a discount before playing it. It's basically my dream game of having turn based and active gameplay
Cold Steel doesn't have Active Combat that's Daybreak.
Good video. What's the music we hear at the very end of it ? Sounds awesome.

Dear lord that AI thumbnail
Yeah i love this channel and seeing thumbnails like those makes it look cheap and low quality like those ai channels. :(
It literally looks like every other thumbnail with anime woman on it, what do you mean?? 😂
how do you even know it’s AI?

For the life of me i cant do suikoden.
This number is about to go up because a popular trend catching on is Action Combat that triggers into Turn-Based combat.
Hey Erick don't quit your day job
I wish we could get full turn battle system in FF 7 Remake and Rebirth. I hate that stupid mix of action and ATB.
Xenogears
stop with the AI generated images in thumbnails
it takes seconds to find actual/official cover art from the games, wtf man??
Automata is not a jrpg. Lol
Devil may cry, and stellar blade is like I'm just the same.
Automata is definitely an action JRPG. If that's not an JRPG then i guess FF 7 remake or kingdom hearts is not either

Party management is part of a jrpgs or action jrpgs. Automata doesn't have party management. It's just a action game like ninja Gaiden
