We were sat on the other side of the glass where the crew member is. It was actually quite a worry when you want to keep your family safe and we just weren't sure how this was going to end. They tried to turn the boat too close to the bridge and the current smashed the back of the boat into the bridge then the front smashed in to the bridge too. The other boat tried to pull us away but obviously missed the boy scouts on the day they were learning knots as it slipped and hit the bridge again.
it's quite natural to have concerns like that, however if it really difficult out on the river. The weather and the tides don't make it any easier for the people working on these boats. Incidents like this happen once in a blue moon and I don't think that it should be as big a concern as people are making out. Mistakes and accidents do happen.
no sorry we didn't stay til the end. I think you are right as i saw them pull away for two attempts and it didn't look like they had any propulsion so am guessing the same as you. It will be interesting to see what the out come will be.

Well captured. Did you manage to get anymore footage of when the tug pulled her clear in the end? Did you see the boat hit the bridge in the first place? It leads me to believe they have no engines or a problem as when the tow rope snaps, if you had engines he could have drove out clear?
I was on the same cruise on Wednesday 6/6/12 . WE had a great trip from the Tower Pier to Westminster with a great guy that pointed out all the sights.So sorry for the people on this boat that crashed but still would recommend a river trip to see the Thames.
i was very concerned by this incident; where was the tug, where were the authprities, PLA, River Police and the MCA. Perhaps all the crews of our pleasure steamers/craft on the Thames and all our tidal rivers, need to be breath tested/drug tested and competence tested at regular intervals!.
Me and my son cancelled our ride. We were in line for the next trip and saw it happening. My son commented that it looked dangerous how close to the bridge he was turning around.
Water is a powerful force in this world and with the way that the boat is wedged against the bridge it's easy for it to tip over.
