    It bothers me that they keep going on about how it's weird that their name is Kira despite not being Japanese. I had a friend called Kira back in the 90s who definitely wasn't Japanese. In fact the name is pretty common in Europe and India, not just Japan. It has roots in Hindi, Hebrew and Russian, as well as possibly Greek and Irish.
    Edit for clarity

    Okay so there’s a story, I forgot who even narrated it but it’s about a kid being raised by serial killer parents and has the same thirst for blood. One parent gets killed, one escapes and the kid ends up in foster care waiting for the one parent to come get her. Anyways I feel like that could line up with this story to make a super nice serial killer family story❤️‍🩹😁

    I haven’t seen anyone bring it up yet, but I don’t think the baby was his. Maybe this is super obvious and it just seems subtle to me lol but when he says that this was the only murder that happened while he was out of town, that there was a smell of rot in the bedroom, and that she wanted to start trying for a baby right away after he got back, it seems to me that she actually lured this guy back to their apartment/house, ended up getting pregnant by this guy before killing him, and then to cover her tracks wanted to “try for a baby” with her fiancé even tho she was already pregnant.

      Yeah that's what I thought, the police reports all mentioned a bar being involved and they were all abusive men so it's very likely that it went from bar to the guy dogging her to go home and her playing hard to get
      Imo she was cheating each time ,I'm curious to know her motives at least, abusive bf that made her have a vendetta? a friend kill herself over it?
      Serial killers usually have some motive that makes their actions more understandable (though not justified by any means)

    It’s an exact example of “Love Is Blind”. You can love someone so much that even though you are fully aware of their faults no matter how bad, no matter what your friends say, you don’t even accept it until it either ends, or you fall out of love. Then it’s a landslide of feeling stupid, played like a fool, lied to, essentially that you never knew them at all.

    any psychology student will recognize the MAOA gene. and no, it doesnt actually make anyone a serial killer (necessarily). low MAOA activity is linked to aggressive behaviour which may cause a predisposition to violence, but isnt a direct cause. interesting story but has plotholes

      no plot holes. MC is a pretty dull dude. it's not surprising he would see the moniker of the gene and be terrified. and yes the gene doesn't make people serial killers but it's very common for convicted serial killers to have the gene.

    • @PitterPatter20
      @PitterPatter20 Рік тому +5

      That's not a plothole. It's stated in the story that the main character doesn't really understand the science, so it makes sense that when he sees it's nicknamed the "serial killer gene" he would assume it actually means you're a serial killer, and that assumption drives the plot forward towards him starting to put the pieces together. It might be a faulty assumption, but it's an assumption that a layperson such as the main character would make.

      I'll be honest, the way monoamine oxidase deficiency (and it's actually MAO *deficiency* that's relevant, not just having the gene for MAO, which literally everyone has) is portrayed in this story is extremely unrealistic, sensationalistic, and arguably kind of ableist. The main consequence of MAO deficiency from my knowledge is sometimes having issues with emotional control, like anger management and that kind of thing, but even that's far from universal, most people have no pathological symptoms from it at all. People who have it are *sometimes* more combative, but that's actually *not* a behavior that is very conducive to being a successful serial killer, like "good" serial killers are usually good at blending in and seeming non-threatening, someone who gets angry easily is going to have a lot more trouble pulling it off. This also doesn't at all fit with the image of Winter being shy and sweet. Also, MAO deficiency doesn't make people non-empathetic or sociopathic or whatever, in fact if anything it makes them *more* emotional. I too have never heard of any association between the gene and being a serial killer, and am fairly sure the author made it up.
      Given all of this and the various plot holes or other weird things in the story (like, wtf is "American DNA" if he's not talking about Native Americans? Which given the context I don't think he is), and the fact that I've never seen this author before, I'm kind of guessing they might be young and not very experienced at writing...at least, I hope so.

      granted, she did only target abusive men mostly, so I suppose that is kind of a pretty different motivation from your average serial killer, but it still doesn't really make much sense in the real world for MAO deficiency to factor into her behavior at all.

      Since MAOA is an X- linked gene women can be classified as having high (H), intermediate or low (L) MAOA activity but men can only be classified by having high or low activity. The genotype frequencies for females were: LL: 16.6%, LH: 42.4%, HH: 41.0%; for males they were: L: 33.1% and H: 66.9%.
      There are twice as many men with low MAOA gene activity however there are more women with Medium to low activity than men. Women have two X chromosomes which is why they can have Medium levels of MAOA gene and men cant.

    Also "American" is not a recognizable ethnicity (at least on a genetic level). Unless he meant "Native American".
    All this just shows the authors ignorance in regards to this topic. A little more research would have made for a good story. The real scary story could have been: the husband and wife have a son, the son is normal, maybe slightly troubled, and the Dad (knowing his son inherited the "warrior gene") is convinced he will be a serial killer and goes insane himself.
