Loving the lessons on this channel, not oversimplified or patronising, but also very accessible. Oh, and most importantly, genuinely good musicianship. Keep up the great work guys, and thanks a lot for sharing all this with us for free!
I'm a guitarist yet still found this useful info. Most of those voicings are impossible to finger on the guitar so I converted them to drop 2 voicings.
I'm definitely overthinking this but there is something in mathematics called "the resolution of unity" or "the resolution of the identity" and it's basically a way to decompose something that doesn't change into components that do change. The spirit of that reminds me of this whole 1-chord resolving into itself via these movements.
I’m going ton work on this today. I feel like I’m at home with open studio because I read music and play by ear and apparently that’s not common, when it should be. Open studio is the only place that addresses both and treat them both equal 🎉
Hi there, totally the Barry Harris system. It's very cool. About the Major chord (and not 7), Charlie Parker is definitely playing 7M chord the first 3 bars. The 7 chord is coming as a dominant for the chord on the 5th bar.
I agree! The 6ths sound much nicer! The 9th's at the end gives it a nice touch. Just purchased your block chord lesson, probably the best jazzy piano sound I like most.
Hey Adam, I was working on something totally unrelated and stumbled on the 6...and WOW! Finding this video is right on time and gives me a better understanding of what's going on. Thank you.
Adam, I'm sorry but I wrote to my cousin in Waukegan and told him I was looking for what came after the e flat diminished and I still haven't heard from him, and s...t, now I gotta study this clip because it's so packed with stuff I've been needing forever.
Interestingly, both the ascending and descending Dm7 Ebo7 pair can be thought of as going from subdominant to dominant: the descending Ebo7 to Dm7 can be thought of as going from the borrowed Ab7 (a minor subdominant) to a G7sus4 (which includes all the chord tones of the Dm7) which has a dominant function since it's followed directly by the C major again.
Good Vid. Discussion surrounding voicing should be focused either on ensemble or solo, and when both - as a consideration of a score. The bassist has to stay in C to have the 2nd and minor 3rd in the transitional notes not remove the tonal relationship defining the tonic key.
i want these videos to be more bitesized for youtube, 20 minutes is a lot in each day. you guys honestly waffle so much rather then just show the content could be 2 mins. Just some honest thoughts

Montclair, New Jersey USA!
Seems related (if not the same as) the "blue monk" pattern
Hi. What piano software sound are you using.
St. John's, Antigua

Red Garland
The added keyboard above with the color coded keys would be a great way to distinguish some of your voicings. Whatcha think?
