Is Samuel Sebastian Wesley related to John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist church?

I think John Wesley was Samuel Sebastian’s great uncle

is it a Layton decision to turn 'solo dec' into 'tutti dec'?

I would assume so, directors tend to play around with this and change Wesley's original marking (when I sang this with St John's, Cambridge in 2019, Andrew Nethsingha had the solo treble vs rest of the trebles, but when we sang it in my church choir in 2022, it was soprano 1's vs soprano 2's (we don't have proper stalls))

@@JoshuaGawley Someone knows the name of the beautiful organ song played before the arrival of the king into the abbey and before the march with the crowns?
I hope it wasn't just one improvisation.

@@JoshuaGawleyI personally think it’s better with 1 treble vs all - gives some textural difference! What about you?

As was said by JG, they mess about with it. Not sure why! I was privileged to sing this solo a few times as a cathedral treble, and it was me alone all through. Apart from being what Wesley wrote, it works better in my view.

    Glorious choral sections in this.
The solo/unison parts are often an absolute snooze, sadly. Organ underutilized.
Overall a great piece - starts well and ends well but the middle is definitely weaker.
