Here's a question which has always bugged me. Let's imagine for a moment that the shooters were off target by a tick, JFK was wounded but not seriously enough to stop him dragging Jackie and himself to the floorboards of the vehicle making subsequent shots practically impossible. If we concede that the planners knew they had to succeed - at all costs (if JFK survives it isn't going to take Bobby Kennedy long to mop up the conspirators with the full power of his office behind him) - what was the contingency plan beyond Dealey Plaza? I've seen some photographs of the run up to Parkland in which there appeared to be people on the rooftops (potential shooters?). But any shot would have been incredibly difficult with the car hurtling towards Parkland at high speed. Which leaves only two possibilities - either they had people in place at Parkland (perhaps masquerading as doctors or surgeons) or .... it was the responsibility of someone in the car whose task it was to administer the coup de grace. I suppose it's possible that the bullets used were also loaded with poison. I say this because of the startling similarities with the British SOE operation against Heydrich in which he too was attacked after his open-top car slowed to a crawl on a hairpin turn where the assassins were lying in wait. We now know that the British had laced the explosives with some kind of biological agent - which might very well be the reason Heydrich's condition worsened despite his wounds being considered survivable.

I didn’t interview him, per se, but we corresponded and spoke on the phone. Like DiEugenio said, he had good qualities apart from his JFK book.
