Coralline is my favourite book/movie ever and as someone who’s read this book since I was 12. I can say it is rly creepy. However, I guess I got over my fears and it turned into my favourite!!!
I grew up watching coraline, and I read the graphic novel because of her graphic novel vid! I can see how its creepy but at this point I guess I'm just desensitized to the creepiness. It was rlly good tho
@Dale Well it kinda makes sense, because Gaiman likes to write "kids' stories" that really resonate with adults also. I think it's very interesting that mostly adults regard this book as scary. Also I recall my elementary school friends being so spooked by the movie but I was like "ye button-eyes? ok, nextttt" it really didn't phase me lmao. Maybe I had read scarier stuff before... Idk really. Interesting tho
For some reason, I thought The Flat Share was a thriller? Like I thought one of them was a killer and the other was slowly figuring out that they’re sharing their flat with a psychopath?? Where I got this idea from, I have no idea😂
The Coraline movie FREAKS ME OUT. A girl I used to babysit watched it constantly and for months I had nightmares about people with button eyes. The other mother is terrifying.

I dnf'ed Clockwork Angel at about 70% (my first and probably last Cassandra Clare book) and I hated One Day In December. Other than that, everything else has been above average.

I was in a poetry mood. I picked up one, gave it five stars and it became a new favourite. Picked up another, gave it five stars, and it became a new favourite. Decided to pick up The Poetry of Oscar Wilde, because I loved The Picture of Dorian Gray, and thought the writing was beautiful and so poetic, and I made the incorrect assumption that his poetry will be the same. Kicked me right out of the poetry mood, kept me out of it since and I gave it one star.

There was one I didn't finish, couldn't get into it. I think it was called the Sun Sword, I can't remember the author, dont have it on me right this second.

I agree with the Betrothed. There was no build up to the relationship, it kinda just happened and I was just like...umm okay? And then the ending threw me for a loop and I feel like I can guess the second book already
I know I'm like 4 months late to the party, but my worst read of 2020 was definitely "Where the Red Fern Grows" by Wilson Rawls. I had to read it for school, so I didn't have high expectations going into it, but I was hoping it would at least be average. My big issue with it is that you knew the ending from the start, so any plot twists along the way were extremely anticlimatic, which for me at least, made it a very unenjoyable read.
I have an unpopular opinion for my biggest disappointment of this year: The Starless Sea. The writing is beautiful but I just didn't care about any of the characters. I think you had a very short list - the sign of a good reading year!

If you like the concept of two ppl being in a tight spot in life, having to share a home, and communicating through post-it notes then I HIGHLY recommend Because This Is My First Life on Netflix. So good! Super sweet, touching, funny, lovely, and all the good things a romance story should be. Definitely an instant fav for me. :)

You should read between the lines and off the page by Jodi picoult it’s a duo I feel like you would love them , I definitely did it was my first books that showed me I loved reading (I’m in high school)
Oh my God I remember in 6th grade my teacher made us watch coraline. I had watched it when I was little, so I knew I hated it but watching it again I realized how freaking terrifying it is. I had to leave my class I was absolutely terrified but for some reason I remember everyone was freaking obsessed with it. What the heck.
Really enjoyed The Flatshare, gave it 4 stars, although Leon's POV really put me off. Also, it felt more like a friends to lovers situation, personally, since they were post-it buddies before their romance blossomed. So sad you didn't like it!

I'm so glad someone else didn't like the flatshare! It seemed to fall so flat and the characters were so dull and uninteresting. I was really excited to read it but I physically couldn't finish it. I agree there was absolutely no chemistry and NO SPARKS.
I read Coraline this year too and I just straight up didn't like it. It wasn't scary to me at all and Coraline's reactions to the things that happened were just too nonchalant for someone her age and I found it really hard to believe. Maybe I just shouldn't read children's books as a 21-year-old :/
I only DNFed one book this year and it was a goodreads winner called The Five. I just went into it with way different expectations for what it was going to be about, so that's kind of on me, but also the writing did not engage me enough to finish it. I think it would've been more enjoyable if the author took more liberties with the writing and made it into a historical fiction.

I was also disappointed by the Betrothed. I didn't like the insta-love between Hollis and the love interest. Honestly, at the beginning, I kinda thought the love interest was gonna be the best friend. There are also too many loose ends, and I dont know how she's going to wrap them all up in one book, cause I think it's supposed to be a duology
I was in foster care when I was younger and on my sixth birthday they insisted I watch Coraline with them and I’ve had nightmares ever since it completely scarred my childhood and I hated it so much. I’m 15 now ☺️. Anyways love your Vlogmas videos!! 💖
I kissed Alice was at times hard to distinguish the characters but that god better the more the story went and we do see how they became enemies and what all that was. I didn’t like the ending but it did get better in my opinion. I loved the flatshare but I can see where you are coming from with the chemistry because it’s not till like the last quarter of the book that they actually spend time together!
My nephew LOVES Coraline, the book and the movie! I honestly hate it so much. I just had to write a huge paper on it and I had to watch the movie and I WAS NOT OKAY after. ugh.
Wayward Son. Hated that book, it was my lowest rated book of the year, dragging my whole star average and it almost put me in a reading slump. Maybe, the fact that right after WS I read one of my favorites of the year, made it seem so much worse but I don't even wanna pick up the third book.

Since you didn't like Odd and Tru as well. I would reccomend The Cure for Dreaming by Cat Winters. That one is a personal favourite.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who didn't like The Flatshare. It just wasn't for me.
I was also disappointed by the Betrothed. I didn't like the insta-love between Hollis and the love interest. Honestly, at the beginning, I kinda thought the love interest was gonna be the best friend. There are also too many loose ends, and I dont know how she's going to wrap them all up in one book, cause I think it's supposed to be a duology
The worst book I read this year was The Windup Girl
by Paolo Bacigalupi. It was so bad

I was in foster care when I was younger and on my sixth birthday they insisted I watch Coraline with them and I’ve had nightmares ever since it completely scarred my childhood and I hated it so much. I’m 15 now ☺️. Anyways love your Vlogmas videos!! 💖

The worst book I read was From Blood and Ash. Poppy was so annoying, I couldn't stand her!!!
I kissed Alice was at times hard to distinguish the characters but that god better the more the story went and we do see how they became enemies and what all that was. I didn’t like the ending but it did get better in my opinion. I loved the flatshare but I can see where you are coming from with the chemistry because it’s not till like the last quarter of the book that they actually spend time together!
My nephew LOVES Coraline, the book and the movie! I honestly hate it so much. I just had to write a huge paper on it and I had to watch the movie and I WAS NOT OKAY after. ugh.
Wayward Son. Hated that book, it was my lowest rated book of the year, dragging my whole star average and it almost put me in a reading slump. Maybe, the fact that right after WS I read one of my favorites of the year, made it seem so much worse but I don't even wanna pick up the third book.
