I'm a culinary student, and I work in a restaurant. It NEVER hurts to know how to cook. But it isn't the cooking she's lucky about. It's if he cleans, too! And he's lucky if she helps. Dedicating your cooking to someone you love makes it so much better

If you was to try made this at home it would be more than $12... the way they price the ingredients I know is the common way to do it but doesn’t transfer at all to real life. You can got to the shop and only buy a certain amount of one thing!
The ingredients in their full quantiies would cost more, yes...but you're not using those full quantities in this dish, so you price out the ingredient based on how much I use. I might buy a $8 slab of cheese and only use $2 of it; that leaves $6 for other meals. You don't count that $6 used for the other meals toward this dish.
Buzzfeed posters ran out of ideas.

I just made my little lady a special breakfast of pancakes with a home made blueberry compote. She just came out of the hospital so she wanted food she could actually taste. It was nice and she was happy. The compote cost about $2 to make.

They say topping instead of cream because they legally can't say cream. I think the equivalent is "dessert chips," which are a thing.

@@caglioso No it's because whipped topping isn't cream. "Cream" I believe legally requires to have a certain amount of milk fat. Whipped topping I'm assuming uses gelatin as a binder. Whipped cream wouldn't actually hold its shape as much as whipped topping does. It would deflate, and probably reliquify, in the container.
There's also "On-Top brand whipped topping made with cream" (Notice the distinction) which a lot of professional places uses, and I believe they use coconut fat as a stabilizer.
