Thanks!
Thank you Josh, I just unboxed my new 891 😁😁
Congrats!
@@HamRadioCrashCourse Thank you for training me on my Technician licenses, now working on my General.
My 891 will be delivered today with an ATAS 120a...HF in the Jeep!!!!
That might be the way I am heading with the ATAS.
@@HamRadioCrashCourse I LOVE my Chameleon V1L, but they stopped making it...
The 891 will be my first purchase after passing the general exam. Can't wait!!!
Sounds good!
Ah, 2019... such a great year!
I just got mine this morning for my first rig in a small shack, though as I don't have a license yet I'm using it as a general coverage receiver. It sure beats the pants off of my Tecsun H-501. Today for the first time ever I was able to hear activity on 20, 15 and 10 meters and this during a minor geomagnetic storm. That unclused an Americam on 20 heard OKish in SE Asia, I'm really liking the 891!
I like my FT-891 a lot. I've used it on a couple of POTA activations as well as at WFD19. I also travel for work so I take it, tuner, wolf river coils SOTA antenna, battery, and coax with me if I'm driving. All stored in a Harbor Freight Apache case. Kind of an HF Go-Box.
I'm thinking with the Wolf River you could run the radio without a tuner. I'm going to give it a shot.
Ham Radio Crash Course you definitely can, I have done it but you never know what you will run into. I've activated with others and you don't know which antenna you'll use
Awesome radio, it's next on my list of must haves after the FTM-400DR (if they're ever in stock again)..
IDK how I lucked out on missing the FT2DR and FTM-400 shortages.
6 weeks was the lead time on my 400 xdr hro
Took 5 weeks to get my FTM-400, ordered FT2DR same time, still waiting... :-(
Your Desk looks like mine, I‘m feeling a little bit better now :-) Thanks for the Video.
Need to upgrade to general and get me one of these radios with an atas120 ...
DO it!
Congrats on the new FT-891! I liked the one I got so much I ended up with a second one!
You’ll be pleased with it. I got mine just for /p and it’s been great. Wished it had an internal tuner but the LDG range offer good options if you need to add one.
A couple of guys in our local club have the 891. Front end seems pretty clean. I think you're going to be happy with your new rig!
Thanks for your videos!

So far, its receive is awesome.
That’s on my list of radios to add to my shack. Very nice!
I have one for portable use. It’s a great rig for sure, good ears and it’s a killer CW rig! I used mine as the base rig for awhile to get used to the menus and it’s operating characteristics. Enjoy 73

Hey Elton, groovy sunglasses. That food looks absolutely delicious. The radio would look much much better in my shack than it does on your bench. I would agree that Icon, Kenwood, and Yaesu have their niches. Icom for base stations and Yaesu mobiles and portables for everything else. Have had Kenwood in the past but find them somewhat kluge, not just amateur but commercial as well. I have been experimenting with battery power for my FTM-400XDR using a Bioenno 15ah battery. Results are very impressive. Looking forward to purchasing the 891 myself. 73, Joel, N0DNE
I am really liking my FTM-400. The FT-891 has been in interesting radio. The lack of battery and tuner makes it less versatile. But the power is effective over QRP.
Really interested in this radio for my Go Box. Thanks.
It would be a good go box radio for sure.
Was this a radio video?
Awesome add to your radio collection. Would be an interesting feed; radio and an antenna to use mobile- like in a vehicle.
Great little radio! I have one of those, like it a lot. Great receiver, very portable. SW support was slow for awhile, but that's improving, too. Looking forward to seeing a comparrison to the 7300, as that's the other rig I drool over... hi..
Ok, all the cool kids are getting 891's now. Whats a Techgear Junkie to do?
Lol!
891 a good choice. I use one at home and when I go out. By the way.. where is that Indian food place? Looks good
Tara's Himalayan in Artesia Ca. On Pioneed Blvd. Which is known as Little India. Lots of amazing food there. In the case of Tara's they serve Himalayan, Indian and Tibetan food.
Daddy’s gonna be sleeping on the couch cause he bought another radio lol
lol!
Hi. Please check it. Set modulation AM or FM and push PTT, see pwr indicator. Power increases quickly or slowly?
Been off the air for about 20 years and now I've just received my new FT-891 and will install it on my sailboat. I also wanted it for SWL but there seems to be no way to change the RX frequency 1 MHz at a time to get to different bands quickly. Anyone know if there is a way to do that?
The sequence of events for me would be, Indian food, severe diarrhea attack, then go to HRO.
Nice! I’m going to buy one this weekend at Universal Radio in Columbus, OH! Can’t wait! KA8GPM
have they fixed the switching from USB and LSB issue? can you easily switch from USB to LSB on any band now or do you have to do weird menu work around stuff?
I think you still need to do the weird menu thing.
The FT-891 is a sweet little rig!
On your next review of the 891 could you give some feedback regarding potential his when using headphones? We do a lot of remote camping and off roading, and the 891 is on the list for a mobile.... Stationed rig. Thanks and hoping to hear good things!
Also, any long term review on the 7100 coming out?
Have a great day

Yeah I can Do something on that for the FT-891.
I don't have a 7100, did you mean the 7300?
@@HamRadioCrashCourse whoops,. Mixed up you tube identities. 3rd shift mind gets things mixed up every now and then. Apparently 5 you tube channels is hard to keep straight for me. Haha.
Appreciate the great content as always! I've been meaning to ask, any opinions on that Ailunce qrp style rig with the sdr screen for an affordable portable?
Nice video
Thank you!
I got the 891 for my first HF after getting my general ticket I have enjoyed using it. Until I decide what Base unit I want to get.
Sometime could you do an operation video (or point towards one where they don't speak radioese for those of us who haven't kept up) on the FT-4X, it's my first radio in over 20 years, and I swear the directions are written after being translated from Swahili or something or maybe I've just gotten denser in my old age. Oh give the first pair of sunglasses back to the 12 year old girl you took them from!
Thank you
KB0-HXA
Well you’re a charmer. 🤣
@@HamRadioCrashCourse sorry I calls them as I see them!
But then again it probably wasn't to smart to say that then ask for help! Well nobody has ever accused me of being smart.
That was kind of what I was thinking "Make a video tailored the way I want it... Also your sunglasses look like something a 12 yo girl would wear." Anyways, I'll be making 891 videos in the future. I can't promise I won't use ham radio terms.
@@HamRadioCrashCourse Hmm Okay I can now see I have dug a hole so deep I can not work my way out so I shall retire from the field and bother you no more,
Live long and prosper , grasshopper
No worries, glad you responded. I wasn't sure if you were just trying to troll me.
Show us a great mobile HF antenna!!!!! Love my Chameleon VL1, but they don't make it any more....
What are you using as a tuner and antenna with the FT-891? Thanks & 73!
I have used three antennas with the 891. A no-tune end fed made by Chameleon, which I like. The Wolf River Coil antenna, which you adjust for the match and the Chameleon P-Loop, which you also adjust for the match. All avoid the need of a tuner.
Ham Radio Crash Course Thanks for the reply. I'm considering getting this radio very soon, so I'm doing my homework. A lot of people seem to like this radio, and Chameleon seems to be the antenna of choice. 73!
Indian food!!!! Masala and SAMOSAS!!!!!
The next town owner has a Large Indian community. You name it they have it there. Its awesome.
You will love the rig. I'm running the FT-891 mobile paired with a Little Tarheel II. Try just a touch of the DNR... you will be amazed! 73 de KM4RT
You will enjoy it, it took a bit to get used to all the internal menu's.
That was the largest hurdle. The menu system is a bit rough!
I got mine HRo San diego, deal with the store manager, great personality!! and he does acknowledge you in Seconds not in Minutes like the others. Fyi
Are you from New York?
no
I love everything you do - except for one thing. Please don't use your phone while you're driving, there's nothing good that comes from it. If you really need to record yourself while driving (which you don't) get a dash mount and use a gopro. Do it for the person sitting behind you in the car.
"I stream 7 pm PST every Friday" EXCEPT this Friday!?! LOL, where were you this week Hoshnasi???
Trying to attend my sisters wedding. Sorry it inconvenienced you. I’ll give her an ear full when I see her. 🤣
@@HamRadioCrashCourse There is no try... 😉
Get an ICOM IC7300.
I have one :D I've posted alot of videos on it.
