      Wow that’s a really good description. I grew up in the NYC area. But I lived in Chicago for 2 years. Chicago felt like home right away. I rented a basement on the south side and my landlord and her crew treated me like a brother. They were fascinated by my Jersey accent and fast paced ways. I was intrigued by the fact that Sunday dinner and the holiday season seemed to be very important to many people there I found it refreshing. Yes crime is a problem I won’t to deeply into that except to say NYC and Jersey gun laws are the strictest so it’s more of a deterrent. Even the church and gospel in Chicago seemed ingrained in the culture. Which I believe added to the sense of togetherness. I lived in Morgan Park and was always able to park right in front of the house(new experience). I had great neighbors as well. Most people seemed genuinely happy to meet someone who wanted to move to Chicago and not complain that it wasn’t NYC. I live in Atlanta now but Chicago will always be special to me.

    Finally a video not bashing Chicago. I consider myself well traveled and I’ve lived here my whole life. Having traveled to other cities, you quickly appreciate Chicago. The city is so much cleaner than other cities, the diversity of cuisine, and as far as big cities are concerned definitely the housing. We rent a 4 story townhouse with a 2 car garage, an outdoor space for $2500, we’d never find that in L.A. or NY.

    Nice Video ! We live in Chicago since the 90's and simply love it. We have visited San Diego, LA, San Francisco ( and other cities) and they are beautiful and the weather awesome as you know, but Chicago has something that makes you feel good. There is something about the people in Chicago & suburbs, it's about the mentality, personality, etc, that makes you feel good. Every city/state has a unique personality & we are happy here & specially when you experience the season's transitions. Every fall, we driver Northwest to Galena Il, for Pizza and a beer. Spring/ Summer, are very busy with gardening & in the winter you can go slide on the snow hills & stop for Pizza (again) and head home to watch a good movie. CHICAGO te queremos !

      I have lived in Chicago for 20+ years, and different states for the last 10 years.
      Chicago is freezing for November, December, January, February at the least! That is 4 months right there.
      Then it can snow and always foes in March and sometimes in April. If it doesn’t snow in April it is always cloudy and rains about 20+ days in April and May. June starts to get hot but if it snowed in April then June is super rainy. The only months you don’t need a coat is July, August, September but by the end of september it can get low 40s as warmest temp.

    Chicago was once the best city in America -- shopping at elegant department stores on State Street, seeing top acts at downtown theaters, dozens of wonderful parks, not to mention the Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium, the Museum of Science and Industry and the Museum of Natural History, the Art Institute and so many more great places to visit. But in recent decades, crime has surged out of the South Side and the hooligans have even mobbed the upscale shops at the Magnificent Mile on Michigan Avenue. Home invasions, car jacking and muggings have become common, even in the best North Side neighborhoods such as Lincoln Park. That is why I am now a former Chicagoan.

    My cousins from LA visited a few years ago and were floored! They commented on things we have that they don't such as the skyline, our vibrant downtown, Lake Shore Drive, boat tours from Navy Pier, parks throughout the city in all neighborhoods, Lake Michigan and the lakefront accessible to everyone - rich and poor. In LA the oceanfront property is taken by the rich people, and poor neighborhoods don't have parks and green space like those in Chicago. Sometimes when you live here you can forget all the positives or take them for granted.

A lot of people just come to see the Loop/Mag Mile/Navy Pier but there is so so much more, especially on the South Side, NW areas and far north. Love the Chicago Botanic Garden, Bahai Temple, South Shore Cultural Center , Hyde Park neighborhood, Pilson murals, Humbolt Park, Garfield Park Conservatory I can go on and on....

Lots of exotic foods you don’t get anywhere else, lots of activities and lost of histories. The food is amazing I’ll find myself traveling back home to Chicago every once and a while for the food. I've lived Overseas, on the East Coast, the West Coast and in the South. But there's something about Chicago...something about the people....I've not found elsewhere. There seems to be a humility and a concern for other's feelings...in the fabric of the city. Don't know why. Is it because of their religious back ground? Is it in their varied European and Asian roots? Is it because the "closeness" of city and the people, that by necessity, requires they live in daily contact with so many other human beings.....that MOLDS them into being like that? One of my life's..."great mysteries".

    • @IskandarTheWack
      @IskandarTheWack 3 роки тому

      It's a techy/artisty city, ie more lefty-ish people, also a more diverse community (race/ethnically) results in more acceptance (less racism), and that drives you away from more extremist right stuff.
      Also just in general: younger communities are typically just more accepting of others.
      Among other things.
