Your boats are works of art. Roy, I recently picked up a Portland Pudgy dinghy, which can also be a sailing dinghy I think I'm finally going to teach myself to sail this summer.

Thanks Brenton! Give sailing a chance, it can feel slow sometimes but it caulms me , and then I sewttle in and am amazed that wind moves the boat along quietly and for free! Enjoy! BestRoy

@@backwatersandbackroads Lol! Yes, by motorboat standards, you and I know slow but when you are watching bubbles slowly move by and in a dreamy state of mind, you contemplate naming them, as new, found friends, then you know slow! Lol!

What I can't help but think of as I see all those power boats going by at full throttle (or near to it) is all the thousands of dollars of gasoline they are accumulatively consuming. Been working on a number of cruisers in the 30+ foot range that people pick up cheap and think they've got a bargain until they have to fill the two 500 gallon fuel tanks. After their first outing where they go through a few hundred gallons on a relatively short trip they're crying buckets over how fast they are burning through $1,000. A lot of these boats will burn over 50 gallons per hour at the higher throttle settings so at fuel dock rates of $5 per gallon its $250 for each hour so $1,000 for 4 hours/100 miles of cruising. On the other hand a 35 to 40 foot sailboat can often make it a full year on one 20 gallon tank of fuel and a new set of sails (which last for many years) on some can be had for the cost of one or two sessions at the fuel dock for a similarly sized power cruiser.
Had one think they got a bargain on a cabin cruiser because it was $1,000 cheaper than one locally available and it didn't need that much work... right. Just the fuel to get it back to home port ate up what they saved on the price and then it cost well over $1,000 to bring it up to fair enough condition to make it safe.
Those Raised Deck Cutter Rigged Ketches are sweet. Like them better then a rear cockpit since you don't end up with a mast to squeeze by near the companion way.
Nice sail Roy, you showed us again how it can be done without blowing the budget.
    Best!

Cost is a key issue for me. Our houseboat has only a 9.8hp. I wanted a four-stroke 9.9hp high thrust but got a deal on the 2stroke, and it has served well. Point being, that many are shocked we have such a small motor, but I explain that we cruise comfortably at 5mph and it costs very little in fuel! I watch the big boats, and they anyways do minimum speed as they want to save fuel! We can go faster, too, but if dialed back, we can cruise 200 miles on the fuel I bring! A typical trip is around 100 miles and costs us only 50 to 60 CAD!!! With CROW (I love my sailboat, I built the houseboat for Dianne) I make a point to sail even though most of our group seem to motor sail most times. That said, the 4hp move CROW well if there is no wind, and I can and did row her a good deal this trip! Thanks for pointing out the cost benefits!!! BestRoy

Thanks John, not the website is an older format and displays best on a lap or desktop. Also payment options are listed in the description, the "pay now" option is not enabled! BestRoy ...the site... RoyDesignedThat.com
