Rateliff captivated the audience at Brighton Music Hall with his intimate, authentic sound and uninhibited lyrics. This is a musician comfortable in his own skin and writing songs from life experience.
Rateliff was born in rural Missouri where he first began playing music in Church. He relocated to Denver at the age of 19 where he’s built a loyal and passionate following. He’s toured across the world including alongside such acts as Mumford & Sons, Deer Tick and The Lumineers.

You young bucks want to know what song writing and connection with your own music is.... well you found it. Nathaniel Rateliff is one of those "once in a generation" song writers we can all learn from. All us musicians make music, but how many of us feel it? Especially when you have been at it for years, it becomes easy to "go through the motions". Recordings like this remind us why we make music.
Who, in a sane state of mind, would dislike this song?

What a difference a couple of years can make. That comment about being able to afford a house nearly broke my heart.
So true. I remember him talking about that in his interview and bringing that up in conversations about how hard it is to be a working (journeyman) musician. The success he's having now couldn't happen to a better guy.
That success...I'd add to that the core band, the loyalty and faith they demonstrated (and continue to demonstrate) - particularly Joseph Pope 3rd . Well deserved.
I'm amazed by their soulful voices mixed with that blend of jazz and southern rock. I dig it man!! Going to look for their stuff on vinyl. At the hospital for our first child. For better or worse SOB was the first song Finleigh Rose heard. Lol she is enjoying the rest of this performance as I type. Pure awesomeness

I love how humble yet confident Nathaniel's personality is. I think between that and his music he writes/plays he may go somewhere...lol
So many bands and singers these days sound like crap live, and then on record they sound flawless. To them, the computer is their hero. To you, you make live music sound what it should sound like. Creative, no computers, and just amazing feeling to the music. Very happy to have heard this.

I hope you got to hear Nathaniel and his band at Northrop. I was there and he and his band just nailed it, made a packed house go wild. I've never gotten so much value for my ticket $$$ LOL. I think, i hope if there's any justice in the world these guy get wildly successful, but I hope they NEVER lose this magical honesty, and musical joy they have now...

wow, I love their sound,their songs,everything. Today is the first time I've ever heard or even seen these guys, but as of today your my #1's. I was really having a shitty day in sobriety and just happened to see your video on the tube then you tubed it and it was the SOB, song and for some reason it helped to bring me out of my crazy thinking for right now . soon Thank you. I absolutely love the mini-interviews between songs... it gives the songs so much more depth than they already possess. There are songs within this piece that I have never heard that are now favorites. He displays a wider range of his voice not otherwise heard in some of the other (more popular or well known) songs he has written. I absolutely love this, it is a beautiful treat. PS I met him 1/8/2016 walking alone near Paramount downtown Denver, I was so thrilled.

I am so happy I found Nathaniel Rateliff, love all his music: this concert, the albums with the Night Sweats, his latest album... It always surprised me how rhythmic his singing is (among other qualities), makes total sense now knowing that he started playing drums. Thank you, Nathaniel!

One of the best sets I have heard from them!!! I have been a fan of Nathaniel's for 5 years and never figured I would get to see him live. BUCKET LIST: I get to see him next week. Granted it is with a different band but I am hoping for some of the old school favorites!!! YAY!! And the + side is I am not dying anytime soon that I know of!!! :)

Saw Nathaniel and the Night Sweats at Latitude Festival last weekend and he blew me away! The best act of the weekend and such a great and small and sweaty venue in which to experience the full onslaught of his performance. Can't wait to see him in London in October

I am reminded of The Band by this group - and I really love the feel.
I like this video because they showcase some of the best versions of songs. My favorites are Nashville, You Should've Seen the Other Guy, and Something Beautiful. Spotify does not do these songs justice! Nashville isn't even on there and its #1 for me lol

I am so glad to see artists like this starting to get more air play over the usual trash out there. They fit well into the genre with Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes as well as Paolo Nutini. Great to see more and more of this authentic music. Will definitely go see live if they ever make it to Ottawa Canada
