They use lighter, lower quality steel which, while improving economy, also reduces the car's cost. Unfortunately, this results in a cheap, economical car that's also built like a tin can, which is the nickname they've received in India. They don't want to send their tin cans to the NCAP test because they know they'll HAVE to improve their cars' safety and increase cost, reducing sales. You can tell they only care about profits.

How Cars Score A Zero-Star Crash Test Rating
Maruti: *Please allow me to introduce myself*
😂😂😂
The Maruti Suzuki would at least get a One-Star rating if they built the car bodies from welded-together Master Lock #3 lock bodies (one of the worst major label commercial padlocks in the world insofar as picking and shimming resistance, but their bodies really are "tough under fire")
TATA Motors is an Indian company. All the cars they launched in the past few years has at least 4 star NCAP ratings. TATA Nexon in 2017 became the first car made in India to receive a 5 star rating.

The worst part is that every month, every year Maruti Suzuki always lands up in the highest number of cars sold charts with their unsafe tin cans or 'moving coffins' You can also see how Tata Motors has roasted Maruti Suzuki on Twitter and boasted it's 5 star rated cars. For Indians, Maruti is seen as a much safer alternative to two wheelers. That's why they are topping the charts even though people know about it's poor safety rating. For most in India, owning a car is a big dent in the monthly expenses. Maruti fits well economically with most of the middle class people.
Maruti Suzuki didn't respond to the query because they have no shame and India is the only significant market for Suzuki outside Japan. What an irony!
People defending unsafe cars in the comment section usually are the ones buying Maruti cars due to their thrifty nature.
Sad because Maruti has the highest resale price of all the vehicles
@@yashsinghrathore9615 that's because of their mileage, whose laurels can be attributed to poor safety standards.
@Rsft 5 the crash tests are done at a standard speed for all vehicles. Tata managed to achieve a 5 star rating, sharing stage with Volvo. BMW argument certainly holds no weight.
What I don't like about modern crash tests it that they seem to assume that all vehicles weigh the same. When you test by crashing into a fixed barrier, a subcompact econobox and a heavy-duty pickup truck can both get a five-star rating, but this gives the driver of the smaller vehicle a false sense of security. If they end up in a collision with a vehicle that weighs two or three times as much, they're likely to get the worst of it. Crash tests need to reflect reality, and it should be very difficult for a tiny, lightweight car to get a top rating. Physics doesn't lie. Little cars just aren't as safe, all other things being equal.
Tata and Mahindra took the safety seriously. The cars produced by these companies in last two years are achieving good safety rating. Like Altroz, Nexon, Xuv3OO, New thar etc.
Maruti cuts the price to make cars cheaper so that more peopke will buy that.
Kudos to Tata and Mahindra

Maruti Suzuki fears the outrage it'll receive if people really educated themselves with NCAP ratings before purchase.
How the hell is anyone building a car without passenger frontal airbags in the present day? That is utterly unacceptable! My car is a 20-year-old piece of crap, and it has one!
That's the South African Government for you in a nutshell, Zero Stars.

@Rsft 5 I was talking in general not just in comparison to Maruti and the new upcoming XUV is looking very promising as well as a better buy than its rivals and also Tata cars have come along way now they are way more reliable but still there is room for improvement especially in after sales but the improvement is commendable IMO

Sickening to see that the manufacturers built unsafe cars for some markets. It's like putting a price tag on the people that live there and judge their lives less important then the lives of people in other countries. The cars come with the same bling bling, but not the same safety. It's a tragedy that this is even possible.
In India Maruti is called as 'Tin ka dabba' which translates into Tin Can. They are easy to crush, highly malleable and are poorly built. Yet people flock to get them because they are cheaper to buy, maintain and fetches a higher price when sold. Basically everything which a first time car buyer looks for in a country like India.
People at Maruti Suzuki focus more on increasing milage rather than the safety.
That's pathetic...
Wht abt the brezza
Wants to know about amaze Indian version crash test rating
To be fair, this is also why in India you can get a new car for 10% of the average price in America. I'm sure safety is a consideration, but also those cheaper cars would undercut the market here to a hilarious degree. Imagine, if the average person could buy a car outright for the same price as the minimum deposit on a loan.
When i bought my espresso in 2020, it was cheaper than cheapest car in market by at least 25%. It cost me about 9000 usd, coming with service plan and warranty, it was steal ( still is). But money you saving actually the risk you take on safety.
Even providing this car with more safety equipment will not help because the Heartect platform is not sturdy and is so lightweight. It cannot provide safety to passengers. Also the quality of metal used in this car is poor.
Gee....Makes me remember the Carry I used to ride in, no crumple zone, no airbags.
Maruti Suzuki is the leading no.1 in India. They till date fail to make a 5 star rated car. Most of their cars are zero rated and many didnt have NCAP tests. And truely saying Indian consumers are soo fool tht their first choice is maruti suzuki.
Why didn't you compare the Suzuki to a Smart, which has an even shorter crumpling zone?
Are you interested on how a car get 0*?

After NCAP ZERO Rating Announcement
Maruti: Here onwards our cars never score zero rating from crash testing

If there was a Consumers Union of India (with their own version of Consumer Reports), they would buy their own Maruti's from a retailer at retail prices for their own crash tests in conformance with NCAP procedures...all that India needs is their own Ralph Nader's "Unsafe at Every Speed" covering the Maruti to get that started...

And they brought base variant of the models which don't have any safety measures which is bad... But maybe there is a slight chance that top variant would score better?
Not about crumple zones it's about thin metal sheets used to make these cars. They will bend if you jst put a little bit of pressure.
why would Maruti respond the don't send their cars for testing to ncap now
Some companies place great hope that people driving their cars will evolve into beings with crumple zones in their skeletons and gums with air bags eventually.
one question why is it that safety rating is based primarily on airbags only??? none of the car safety regulatory board (be it the NHTSA Global NCAP or EURO NCAP) emphasize on the structural integrity parameter of a vehicle as much as they do with airbags!!!
The safety engineers are very non biased and scientific. They know what they are doing.
I'm waiting for inforred carmera's predicting a crash then turning itself into an airbag lol
Every country has their own situations. You probably rarely get up to 40mph in moist city roads in India, so all those safety equipment just increase the car's price.
I don’t think the 40 km/h crash test applies because nowhere in India can you find a road empty enough to go 40 km/h
I mean the S-presso is unnecessarily high and it literally looks like someone could roll it with a few pushes...
What else to expect but zero? But being a near monopolistic market leader that they are, they needn't worry too much as they're still on the whole"price sensitivity" angle...
Sure, that means most Suzuki cars on the road are literal coffins, sure that means people will bite the bullet, but mileage and price are there, that's it.
Mahindra also have great build quality..
Nissan Tsuru is a very popular taxi in Mexico. It is also as unsafe as the video shows. No airbags, no traction control, no stability control, no ABS were ever installed on that car. Fortunately Nissan finally got rid of that terribly unsafe car.
