I bought all the space battle episodes 30 years ago where they show model ships, except for The Deadly Years. I forgot they fought the Romulans; I'd rather have had that on VHS than "Dagger of the Mind" my least favorite of the 26 I bought.
The originals have presence for all their faults, the new CGI is utterly sterile. Paramount should have waited until the tech was good enough to just upgrade the originals. We're probably there now, just use AI to upgrade the original effects rather than remaking them.
Laughable star fields moving at impulse power and bad planets. It's enough to make kids not want to watch TOS and therefore not give a damn about its continuity. Probably why the reboot movies and TV shows either ignored it or stole characters and situations to use as they wished.
A fun episode, as opposed to a good episode. This is in the same category as 'Spock's Brain," nice to have a little fun with and the cast seems to be in that same spirit. The redshirt outside of her quarters who tells Kirk what is going on was in several third-season episodes, I believe, nice that he actually got a chance to say something here. She does play the part of a bitch exceedingly well.
@@soslothful This is good being the first episode produced with the Klingon ship except for the star field FX. "Spock's Brain" is cringe-worthy and likely something to be mocked on _Mystery Science Theater 3000._ Someone said "The Enterprise Incident" would have been a better season 3 opener, which is one of the best season 3 episodes. I think for Season 3, they should have brought back Yeoman Rand, introduced a Saavik-like female Vulcan character as chief of security (Kirk needs a good one), and maybe another alien crewmember like a Tellerite from "Journey to Babel" all to give some crew conflict, allow more women to talk together (Bechdel test) and advance women's rights.
So when Spock said “our ghost has materialized” that means the Klingon ship was cloaked at first and then suddenly decloaked using its cloaking device correct?
Something to remember is combat tactics in TOS were inspired by surface vs submarine warfare, esp during WW2. This is especially played out in Balance of Terror, where the Enterprise plays as a sensor ghost to the Romulans. Cloak isn't required when you dance at the edge of a ship's sensors. More than likely in this case the Klingons wrongly estimated the range of the Enterprise's sensors, and got too close and revealed themselves. It was figured the Klingons acquired cloaking tech when the Romulans acquired the D-7 design. While it is possible this vessel here might have had cloaking technology, it is more plausible the Klingons wouldn't want to reveal they have the tech to the Federation so soon. More likely it is as I said before. Merely following at the estimated extreme range of sensors with minimum power.
In TOS the Klingons did not have cloaking, only the Romulans did. Spock just means the ship is now close enough to be clearly seen, and is no longer trying to evade detection. Klingons did not cloak before the Star Trek III film, when the Klingon "Bird of Prey" model was introduced. I think the enemy in that film may have originally been intended to be Romulan, hence the cloaking, but were changed to Klingons at some point in development, leaving the Klingons associated with the "Bird of Prey" name and cloaking in TNG, but which were both originally associated with the Romulan ships in TOS.
@@youngbloodk Thanks, and the main reason why they used the Klingons for Star Trek 3 was because Paramount figured that the Klingons were better known enemies.
@2:35 there are markings on the D7 wing. Now, I have made a ship model (I was so proud) of that ship from a kit in the late 70s, but I can't remember the form of these markings. Any insights out there?
I had a co worker who remembers back in the 70s when model shops had models of the Enterprise, the Klingon Battlecruiser, the Romulan Bird of Prey. I have Micro Machines of those.
They never show a set for the impulse engine room on the saucer section, although they use the curved corridors outside main engineering. Someone did a video asking if main engineering was on the saucer section or not. Arguments in favor of it being in the engineering cylinder (secondary hull) include M5 tying into the warp engines and the hate-creature leaving main engineering and the secondary hull.
A scantily clad female doesn't distract Captain Kirk! He prefers it, but who doesnt? Spock: that's a predictable but logical conclusion regarding the Captain.
Oh my goodness! While Kirk was distracted the cleo-diva with the silver leaves on her oobies stabs the green cupie doll with the blonde hair! Well now that I think about it she can't very well depend on her sparkly butterfly-winged guards to defend her! I guess a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do! I wonder if she was discourteous about it?
No. That was a trade off between both empires Klingon D7 Battle cruisers ships for Romulan cloaking technology. Season three The Enterprise Incident. Also folks, this is the very first time the Klingon D7 Battle cruisers were seen, Ellan Of Troyas. And, the original aired 60's version looks much, much BETTER than that newer enhanced stuff they did. Walter Matt Jefferies designed the Klingon D7 Battle cruisers. Excellent job, I should say.
When the movie is came out it was more confusing 1 the federation did not have Technology technology technology since they stole it. It was not until the next generation did we learned about the treaty Not to use technology
Lithium tantalate crystals have been used for nuclear fusion by Naranjo and Putterman of UCLA and even a Patented electrodes for a cyclotron by an inventor in of South Korea.
This was one of my least favorite episodes. I always thought that the actress playing 'Elaan of Troyious' ( notice the similarity to Helen of Troy) was a real dried-up prune of a woman... couldn't stand her!
I never liked her either and it wasn't because how she looked. She played the part of a rich, spoiled brat perfectly. exactly! Kirk's getting above himself.
This episode had one of the best ship-to-ship battles in TOS, too.
We needed more battles like this.

I wonder how many Star Trek episode ideas started off with a tour through the wardrobe dept.
pretty much all of season 3
Costuming was top-notch.
I built a model of that ghost ship when i was a yoot! I thought it was so cool. Had lights inside and everything
Spock: Our ghost ... has materialized.
Best understatement in this episode! A Klingon warship ... watch out! :D
"Courtesy is for everyone around here."
I wish there were more episodes like this one!
I like how Kirk was ready to punch Kryton
Love that Sulu is hitting the weapons buttons in order to magnify the screen.
He hacked the software.
So refreshing to see the original effects again. Good old fashioned hand-built models, no CGI.
I'm not opposed to the new CGI, it always looked nice- but the sheer nostalgia of the originals? Amazing.

Uh, no. This is nowhere near as awful as Spock's brain.
I felt ashamed to have watched, "Spock's Brain." The episode was an embarrassment to the series.

So when Spock said “our ghost has materialized” that means the Klingon ship was cloaked at first and then suddenly decloaked using its cloaking device correct?
I think so. They knew that something weird was going on, and then the Klingon ship decloaked.
