At Astoria Railroad Preservation, we where performing boiler repairs at the same time 2816 boiler was in Portland. We went to learn from them. Later we ordered boiler rivets together.
This is honestly my favorite surviving Hudson, and I hope to see it someday. Also it should absolutely team up with Milwaukee Road 261 again.
Your pronunciation of Calgary is... interesting.

Finally Canadian locomotives get their turn! Great work.
I have actually manage to see their famous Canadian Pacific 2816 operating and idled under steam at one spot at the CPKC’s Headquarters in Calgary, Alberta, Canada back in April 24th 2024. Also their 2816 isn’t the only H1B to be used in excursion service, it’s sibling 2811 was used in excursion service back around the 1960s before it was scrapped sadly (In which it could’ve been displayed at the Canadian Railway Museum in Saint-Constant, Quebec, Canada). I also didn’t just got to see Canadian Pacific 2816, but I also saw a few CPKC Freight Trains, a few Light Rail Trains, a few historic diesels from the Canadian Pacific, and two steam locomotives with those being Canadian Pacific 29 and Canadian Pacific 5931.
One day i hope that a similar run will happen on the CSX line or any mainline in Maine with the MEC 470 (also, you should make a video about the MEC 470)
Now you got a lot fellas requesting a lot of videos of Canadian steam locomotives, may I suggest starting with the oldest operating one, Prairie Dog Central 3, formerly Canadian Pacific 22.
BTW Darkness, had you seen Rocky Mountain Express, it's a really great movie about the Canadian Pacific.
Also, Fuck E. Hunter Harrison, not just for him pushing for PSR (Precision Scheduled Railroading), but for ending the CP Steam Program in the first place.
Honestly, seeing Darkness make a video about Hunter Harrison sometime might be interesting to see.
He's an opp
Yes! Finally you recognize Canadian success! You should do more of these! 2860 and 2850 should be mentioned too!
CPR 136 and 1057 are also good choices.
Selkirks. Do the selkirks.
@@backonpro5679 oh yeah! DO THE BIGGEST STEAMERS IN CANADA!
@@haydendegrow945 not just Canada. Entire British empire
Apparently, the lubrication system is completely new. I personally got see 2816 while I was at Franklin Park, Illinois. Metra was also operating at the same time, so we got the see the trains interacting.
as soon as me and my buds heard that 2816 was going down to mexico we already knew it was gonna be joever for it
can do vidow on H2 Atlantic beachy head the original and the completed replica down at the bluebell railway
The info you provided is pretty spot on, as far as I’m concerned. Nice.
Now that you’re touching on Canadian steam locomotives, could you talk about the Salem and Hillsborough Railway? That railway utilized Canadian National 1009 and Canadian Pacific 29, before a shed fire in 1994 severely damaged the latter. Neither locomotive is operational now.
you should do a video on one of the CNR steam engines next, perhaps 5700 or 6060 since 5700 has a very interesting history and especially her preservation history
So, if Big Boy 4014 is The King of Steam, 611 is the Queen, and 2816 is the Empress, (1), why have they never triple headed, and (2), who's the Emperor?
The Emperor, as in The emperor of the north pole? Oregon pacific and eastern number 5 or 19.
I feel like 844 would be a good emperor. Or reading 2102
@@colestrains1 I think so to now on to who's the jester I'm thinking maybe 5511 for the role
@@MediumApproachSlow either 5511 or 4449
@colestrains1 I think maybe 4449 is a little to official for the role of jester personally. I think maybe 4449 having the role of either servicemen or a knight would work for it
I’m seeing a lot of suggestions about train topics for you to do in this comment section, so I gotta ask this. Do you ever make polls about which topic you will cover next?
I got to see 2816 in Illinois and it was an amazing sight.
From the safety of a fence, crossing and regular rail security. No armed guards like Mexico
On the 29th of June, the 2816 will visit Silvis, Illinois at the home of the RRHMA ( Rail Roading Heritage of America ) at the former Rock Island Rail Road Shops. It is now the home of 2 legionary steam locomotives that are being restored to operating condition. The former Union Pacific 3985 Challenger and the former 5511, both already a year and a half into restoration. It is also the home of the largest operating diesel locomotive in the world , former Union Pacific 3936 DDA40X Centennial that will be pulling a few passenger cars and allow fans to ride them for a nominal fee. Hard to believe that the 29th is only 9 days away....
I still really suggest doing videos on the locomotives at the sumpter valley railroad
The stories of the steam engines are fantastic and even the story of our large diesel is an interesting one
Good job explaining 2816’s history. The video is a bit rushed, but still very good.
Also, *do a video about Texas and Pacific 610 already!*
Yyyyyyeeeeeessss, let's go!!! Thank you for making this video about my favorite steam locomotive of all time.
I'd also like to see a video about Canadian Pacific 1293. She is the sister to Canadian Pacific 1278, who is most well-known for her unfortunate partial boiler explosion in 1995. 1293, however, didn't have an incident like 1278, and actually has a couple of cool facts about her. The first is that 1293 was actually used in the 1980 film "Terror Train," where she was renumbered 1881 and painted black with silver stripes. 1293 returned to excursion service afterwards and was later acquired by the Ohio Central Railroad in Sugarcreek, Ohio, which is the very same place that now owns 1278. 1293 operated there for many years until her 1,472-day inspection period took place. Due to a number of other projects going on, 1293 was put on static display at the Ohio Central's Age of Steam Roundhouse alongside her sister, 1278. 1293 continues to sit on static display today, but I'd like to see a video about CP 1293.
I'm from Davenport, Iowa and I saw it and I got to see it move. I do have an update, so it is back in the Quad Cities in Silvis, Illinois at the Railroading Heritage of Midwest America shop.
If a NYC Hudson was in steam town, what would happen to 2816?
She would’ve been scrapped
For all its faults, this is a great video. Once again, keep up the good work
Maybe once amtrak get the tracks to Scranton back up and running maybe we can get lucky to see 2816 make a running return to Steamtown.
If there's enough information you should do a video on Baltimore 7177. It's in BC Canada. Might be a sister to the Glenbrook.
Yes!!!! Im now happy
Would be nice to see a documentary on CPR 2317
It is actually worth pointing out that F Nelson Blount wanted a NYC Hudson but since all were scrapped he opted for the 2816 instead
Someone attempted to DERAIL 2816 in Mexico 🤦🤦
Hey darkness, I’ve got some information that you might like the information is a New York Central Hudson has been built at 7 1/4 inch gauge in Australia and there is a video on UA-cam about it
I feel like that there should be more 4-6-4 Hudson in excursion service like 2816 and also because it's my number two favorite wheel arrangement
Well, there's the #2816's younger streamlined siblings, the Royal Hudsons...
You’re welcome Canada
Would like to see video about Harrison
11:45 *starts to see red at the mention of EHH*
you really should depict that bastard as the railroad's version of the devil, he is solely responsible for so many problems plaguing railroads today.
Can you cover DB 103, the 13000 HP monster?
Maybe for the next should be cp 3100 or 3101
11:50 dude on the right came out of nowhere.
Does anyone know what date she will be in silvis illinois? I would love to see her
The diesel goes Honk, the Empress goes Bonk.

The same hunter Harrison from CSX?
Yes sir, the one and only Hunter Harrison.
Yes. He was with Canadian National before going to Canadian Pacific. Not well liked there either, apparently.
@@heronimousbrapson863 from what I hear he did make profit
Just controversial
But I’m no expert
And here's the horrible part - CPKC's HQ campus in Calgary is named after him. Ewww...
So glad another Hudson is around and safe from that Chainsaw Madman.
Well, this is a Canadian Pacific Hudson... so its safe from that person you're referring to.
14:36 um she started the tour when???
Hah! I thought I imagined that.
She started it in the future. She’s that amazing.
0:27 You might want to cut out that blooper…😬
How did I miss that!?
It is pronounced windser not windsar
I had the privilege of meeting Al Broadfoot last year and spending a fair bit of time with him. His stories of the rebuild are amazing
