  • Zimbabwe has the 2nd largest informal economy in the world. Many of the informal traders are vendors who are part of the food supply chain in urban markets.
    Measures introduced to curb the spread of COVID-19 such as lockdowns and restricted movement, while good, adversely affected the vendors' operations. In addition, the marketplaces became unsuitable to trade as usual. Most needed refurbishment to conform to COVID-19 prevention regulations.
