as a musician and amateur producer, I use a shure sm58 which is $99 and my vocal mixes sound just as good if not better than some of my friends who use sm7b. It really comes down to your knowledge on how to use a microphone than the microphone itself. great vid dude!

Thanks. I sold my SM58 and regret it. It would have been in this video for sure.

During its first 35 years (!!!), the SM7 did not sell well. It only sells well today because of hype.

Although there is lots of hype, it also sells because of it's noise rejection abilities.
However I will say I have a condenser Sterling Audio ST51 which has way better rejection off axis than the 7B, so there are others, BUT, none of them look as good as the 7B on camera.

I honestly don't see the appeal? The SM7b looks like those veggie choppers from midnight commercials. (And I say that as an SM7b owner!)

@@fredoverflow what broadcast mic would you say looks better? I have the earthworks icon pro which looks nice too..
Maybe the AEA KU5A... But that's basically a rip of the SM7B design aesthetic. More refined.

@@fredoverflow When I see a product that EVERYONE is using I get skeptical. Trend precedes quality? Maybe.
