Well as a casual trader who buys to keep instead of buying for profit, I think this is pretty rad and I really wish this would happen to unusual weapons as well.
I mean unusual weapons sell just as bad as taunts. The only reason they are not as cheap is because there are literally infinite different versions of each weapon so nobody has to compete with each other.

Hit the nail right on the head. I'd expect all future taunts/effects to no longer be rare, unless the Valve/TF Team actually give a damn about the in game economy a bit.
Im not gonna lie, I sometimes think Valve is actively trying to kill the secondary market through subversion and harmful updates, just so that way everything has go through the SCM instead, and as such they get a cut.
Well, you need to also consider this. The "Secondary Market" is also the one thing that in a way is helping to keep the game/trading scene alive. While yes, people would use the SCM to buy/sell stuff for "Funds", most would still rather sell stuff for cash they can use anywhere else, AND they would rather spend their cash directly for items they wouldn't be able to get off of the SCM since it's not easy to 1-1 trade items with another user if there are other buyers/sellers, the price limit of items, and the SCM has that 7 day hold on bought/sold items (At least for trading) so that also discourages some use of it. And either way, Valve still makes money to an extent off the secondary market if those items get reinserted back through their market, or are traded for keys, etc. That have to be bought off of the Mann-Co store in the first place (Even though there are enough keys currently that you don't really have to buy off of Mann-Co, and we have Marketplace.tf) I wouldn't be surprised if they were, but at the same time you need to see that they haven't really tried to stop anything for the past few years with TF2 or CSGO. The most they have done is try to stop Gambling sites due to Laws/Scamming going on.
So what you're saying is now is the time to buy buy buy. As someone who doesn't care about getting the most valuable items, (instead I get just what I think is cool,) and making money off this, this is all good news to me, and now I can get cool unusual taunts for relatively low prices. I think part of the reason more unusual have been made is for ( and I know this is gonna sound selfish and self absorbed) average players like me, so we can have them too and not just the super rich traders, as I think the average player, not the trader is the majority of the player base. Hey when you gamble be prepared to lose, so sorry, you get no pity from me for the thousands of $s lost. Benefit of the many (casual players) over the few (traders).
The unusualifiers are easy to sell for quite a bit on the marketplace. Thats all valve cares about, is how much money goes through the marketplace. Ive always hated trading with the TF2 community. Every single one ive traded with wants what they ask for "plus extra". Nothing but greedy bois in the trading community. Glad that its dying.
JJack Well I just witnessed two people on a Hightower server. One had a burning team captain and the other had a scorching flames team captain with a golden pan.

Anyone that says tf2 trading is profitable is lying. Theres no actual sink for any expensive item and the price for everything is fixed. Only way you go up is by manipulating and sharing people
how 2 profit: shark and manipulate inexperienced people. how 2 make a massive profit very quickly: get a minimum wage job or mown a lawn work for like 6 to 8 hours and boom easy 50 keys every day. do that for a month and then you'll have one of the top 100 backpacks.
Valve does, of course, know about the secondary market and the trading community. However, they are more concerned with the actual game and making it fun, because, at the end of the day, that's the point of a game. That does, however, detriment the trading community, which is unfortunate, but, in their eyes, it is much better to have a fun game than to have a good trading community.

Hello:) I'm an employee at Valve. We're planning to mass release first gen effects the next update by adding a crate with an unusual unbox rate of 4% and making all unusuals unboxed from that crate 1st gen. We think this would be a nice addition and we can't imagine it screwing over traders
HazmatPyro Of Course, we can't forget to specifically increase the drop rate of Burning Flames Team Captains to around 8% to 10%. Everyone wants the opportunity to get this great quality, so why not? It couldn't possibly have any ramifications, especially to any outside markets (but let's be honest, those probably don't exist).
kinda the issue with trading items you technically don't "own", it's not so much a free market as it is a fascist one under the rules of something big, in this case Valve. Can't expect them to do the nice thing here is what I'm saying, and that sucks because lots of people made bank on this.
I've never been much into tf2 trading, but it sounds to me like you and the rest of the community are just whining that you can't sell your video game pixels for hundreds of dollars. Boo hoo. Valve committed the deadly sin of letting a reasonable portion of their player-base get access to cool items. Those monsters.
Alaric11 "oh no, I'm watching a video about something I don't like and now I'm upset. How could this happen to me?" Also any item worth money is equatable to anything else. Would you heckle the losers in a crashing housing market for "whining that you can't see your pieces of wood and plaster for thousands of dollars. Boo hoo." Money is money, and don't watch videos just to get mad, it's not healthy.
I was curious about the topic so i watched it, then i was let down and disappointing. You seem like a mad person not me, i don't have a dog in the fight. I don't collect tf2 items. So I wouldn't care one way or the other. But if this is representative of the community then I'm glad i never took part in it.
So they only bought it so they could sell it at a mark up? Am I supposed to feel bad about that? "I artificially made things more expensive for others and now I can't keep scamming everyone". lol bro.
Don't uber heavies as first priority, everyone can just run away before they die to the heavy. Demo (with a sticky launcher) should be highest priority uber target, then soldier, then the rest with sniper being least priority.
i would say ubering a heavy comes in handy against sentry guns but you're definitely right about demos being the high priority. not only can they blow the sentry to pieces but also they can rip the engineer apart before he has a chance to keep his sentry alive for a bit longer, but that doesn't stop the fact that some people would be using the short circuit (even if it is not as effective against sticky spam) or in other rare cases either a pyro or a demoman with either Quickie bomb or Scottish resistance that help the engineer in countering stickies, those are cases where ubering a class like a heavy is a higher priority if you want that sentry nest down. idk who tf is that part of me that explained this in such detail but whatever xd
So can you tell me why I, someone who can't afford to spend 20-200$ on a non-gameplay item in a f2p game that I would like to have and use, why should I care if items in tf2 are becoming cheaper and therefore actually available to me? It seems like you complain about things becoming cheaper only because it effects your and other traders bottomlines by allowing people to get them for cheaper than hundreds of dollars.
I was one of those with an unusualifyer, I hedged my bets on applying it for a jury rigged "double down" if you will, and unusual'd a taunt and was lucky to get Showstopper effect (Team coloured fireworks) So there weren't *that* many on the market. The Backpack.tf price was falling faster than the Strange Kritzkreig.
It's crazy how fast time flies in tf2 since I don't play it regularly any more, if you asked me before the video about the price of an unusual taunt I would have said they are super expensive, I remember playing on cactus canyon like it was a month ago, while it is out since meet your match in 2016(?)...
I've literally left trading in this game untouched ever since keys went over 3 ref years ago, but I still watch these videos and find myself entertained and informed.
I never realized taunts lowered in price so drastically. I stopped playing once meet your match came out, and didn't return until jungle inferno. I was always so surprised to see other players with so many unusual taunts; I had no idea how they could have afforded so many expensive items... until I realized they weren't expensive anymore

I remember unboxing a '72 Disco fever and making 100 keys
That's it
Gambler Mccree themed unusual
Isn't 100 keys pretty good?
Gambler Mccree That is the most themed unusual taunt I could imagine.
skill gotten gains buy a life
I can’t imagine buying taunts for 100 keys
Even back them
Their just not as good looking as hats and weapons
Me, who don't have a single key worth backpack: "I'm mad."
Me seing people that bougth 100 Keys Unusual Taunts that now are worth 10 keys: "But I ain't stressin'!"
Un-pop: I actually really like that menu screen
If another one of these updates happen unusual taunt would probably go as low as 4 keys! Atleast thats what I think.
many unusual taunts already go for 4k, some even 3.5
DancingDominatingWizard I’ve gotten a taunt for as low as 4 keys already
Came back to TF2 yesterday, about 16 months since I’d last played. My reaction to the new menu was exactly the same as the one in the video
Is 15 keys for a 19.5 a good enough quicksell?
The Dinkster if you are selling, no. Buying, heck yes.
It'd be me buying a cloud 9 fukamigasa for 15 key with it at 19.5
The Dinkster Yeah that's a good deal right there.
Sir, nobody rang you.
The Dinkster depends on the item and if it’s overpriced
I’ve been gone from TF2 for a year and this happens
Hello:)
I'm an employee at Valve. We're planning to mass release first gen effects the next update by adding a crate with an unusual unbox rate of 4% and making all unusuals unboxed from that crate 1st gen. We think this would be a nice addition and we can't imagine it screwing over traders
For those about to write about this being a bad addition, this comment is a joke and not meant to be taken seriously
HazmatPyro I never could have guessed that was a snarky comment, thanks for telling me
There are some people who don't understand sarcasm and I don't want to start a shitstorm which makes Valve lose money.
So what you're saying is that I can finally afford my dream themed taunts. EXCELLENT
That one humanoid people can actually use a house, a unusual taunt is exactly the same as a regular taunt except sparkly
So they only bought it so they could sell it at a mark up? Am I supposed to feel bad about that? "I artificially made things more expensive for others and now I can't keep scamming everyone". lol bro.
Alaric11 I never said that, dumbass.
Moral of the story, any unusual drop rate change would break the market
Please learn how to use "literally"
gognub Dont joke about cancer it aint cool
@@s4lt_n113 well telling a guy to die isn't also a joke.
Meh. When did i tell him to die
Is it really a problem for him to use it figuratively?
People are saying "Literally" when they should be saying "Practically".
I'm suppressed the economy still survived with the ridiculous overpriced taunts and hats.
Don't uber heavies as first priority, everyone can just run away before they die to the heavy.
Demo (with a sticky launcher) should be highest priority uber target, then soldier, then the rest with sniper being least priority.
I'll keep that in mind next time. As you probably know I don't play casual TF2 much anymore :P
i would say ubering a heavy comes in handy against sentry guns but you're definitely right about demos being the high priority.
not only can they blow the sentry to pieces but also they can rip the engineer apart before he has a chance to keep his sentry alive for a bit longer, but that doesn't stop the fact that some people would be using the short circuit (even if it is not as effective against sticky spam) or in other rare cases either a pyro or a demoman with either Quickie bomb or Scottish resistance that help the engineer in countering stickies, those are cases where ubering a class like a heavy is a higher priority if you want that sentry nest down.
idk who tf is that part of me that explained this in such detail but whatever xd
X_mezo_X
That's correct, I agree.
Naw, pootis can shred through everything.
TheBlueKnight
In scout's words : "Ya can't hit what ain't there"
Now it’s time for the poor man’s unusual.
Wish I could get a reply from one of these trader channels about this. Hmmmm
+Roland T.H.E. Jabberwocky
guess youre going to keep wishing
Traders and valve: unusual skins, hats, taunts, etc.

We should call this the “The TF2 Great Depression”
Well said, Stalin
Heads up, Tf2 depression 2: Electric Boogaloo is out
LOL Almost the exact reaction and time thoughts I had when i just recently got back to TF2 this year! Comedy gold lmao
If only they knew this was just a warning before the unusual hat chaos started.
Amazing video! Love the details and history of tf2 trading!
glad you enjoyed so much!
*sees heavy eating sandvich*
*shoots crossbow at him anyway*
Honestly im happy midnight cyclone is at low price cause its my favorite unusual taunt effect
Next video: TAUNTS NEW CURRENCY?
Worse case is when the volume is muted, then the game runs and unmute and then "TAAH" (valve intro). It happens most of the time
I've literally left trading in this game untouched ever since keys went over 3 ref years ago, but I still watch these videos and find myself entertained and informed.
"Ages"
Last time played: A while ago.
As always, great quality. Well done.
Thanks man!
HOLY CRAP MY EDGY SPY LOADOUT IS THE SAME AS THE THUMBNAIL WITH THE SCORCHING FLAMES god damn
Summer update comes out
Valve: I’m about to end these men’s whole career
And boy did I jump on the “I’m poor and want a cheap unusual” train most people were doing when the prices went down.
You should've traded with the kid. I smell profit from his 8 key unusual.
I never realized taunts lowered in price so drastically. I stopped playing once meet your match came out, and didn't return until jungle inferno. I was always so surprised to see other players with so many unusual taunts; I had no idea how they could have afforded so many expensive items... until I realized they weren't expensive anymore
I guess it's nice that you can see more people with unusual taunts now.
the background footage is literal proof that hats are no demonstration of skill
Valve is the State and the addition of unusual taunts in all boxes is printing money
heh, i have a 72' high five. update on price, worth 7.25 keys now. i bought it for 18 bucks on the community market. le epic moment
WOW, i didn't expect the unusual taunts to drop that low. that is crazy...
