The idea for this percussion ensemble started out simply with the ostinato formed at the beginning played by the marimbas. There is absolutely no delay effect applied to any instrument. But with talented players, the effect can be achieved by assigning one note or interval to each player and ask them to repeat the pattern on a certain beat of the measure.
The piece eventually developed into a full-on atmospheric journey through the various landscapes and climates one should expect to experience while visiting Arizona. Especially storms! Why Arizona? I was born and grew up as a little boy in this beautiful and underrated state. I've always wanted to write a musical piece expressing the emotions I feel when thinking about AZ and all my childhood memories.
Finishing out to be by far the largest percussion ensemble I’ve written to date with the most unique instruments. 44 unique instruments are managed by 19 players! As a result of these numbers, there is a fair amount of instrument juggling between parts, but rest assured that plenty of rests (pardon the pun) are provided to allow the necessary instrument changes. Because of the dense instrumentation, each player will surely keep busy for the full duration of the piece.

19 players?! My god dude. I loved Dusk to Dawn and then I heard this.
Thanks, man. Dusk to Dawn will be getting updated soon, so perhaps it’s love meter will go back above Set in Sand’s soon too.
Been following you since I was in high school band back in 2008. I love all of your pieces. I hope you always keep going. I appreciate all your music.
From the original Metabolism to Blue Light to my favorite one Metallic Lullaby, I believe in you and your music.
Always keep going forward.

You've made my day, Chazz!
Metallic Lullaby will be getting a big update soon. I'm working on Clockwork now. Next comes Blue Light, then Escaping a Nightmare, then Kang Time. I'll do Metallic Lullaby after Kang Time for sure.
Thank you so much for following for a decade now, wow. I will of course keep going. Just getting started, really!
My high school preformed this song and we had the video plus some strobe lights it felt like have a seizure but nothing less it was the best precision ensemble that we have ever done
Sounds crazy and fun! I'd like to see a video of this, can you link me?
@@EricPeelMusic Sorry we did it last year and have no footage since it was just a "normal" performance
Ah, ohk. Well, thanks for playing anyway! Glad to hear it was a good time.
How am I only just finding this? This is some of the best percussion pieces ever made! Keep it up man, you deserve more than what you have now, but I love what you're making
UA-cam will only expose what we interact with the most. So it would of course help if you like, subscribe and share, etc. But thats all up to you. Thanks for checking out my work!
What a work of art. Literally, I love everything about it the motion pictures in the background with the score.
Thanks very much for watching!
This is really something special, man. I've been keeping up with this since you first released it without a title and seeing how far it's progressed and the evolution of your writing style has definitely moved me to tears. What an incredible journey you've brought me along, and I feel that between this and Clockwork (which happens to be my favorite percussion ensemble piece to date by the way), all I can do is offer you my sincerest thank you and congratulations on its completion! Definitely keep up the great work.
Thanks for following, man! I'll be working on Clockwork as soon as I get all logistics done for this piece. It should sound much, much better than even the latest update (#3) because I've started working in a DAW exclusively while that update was coming out of Sibelius. And through Set in Sand, I've learned most of the workflow and can just apply it to Clockwork.
@@EricPeelMusic Sweet! You have my ongoing support and I definitely look forward to seeing your visions for it come into fruition.
Wonderfully written piece and wonderfully edited video! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for listening and watching!
Amazing
Thank you!
Wow that’s amazing! Sounds soooo good! What virtual instruments did you use for this track?
Thanks, Robin! Virtual Drumline for almost everything, and the finger style bass guitar from Logic for the rhythmic bass parts.
This slaps
Thanks for watching!
@@EricPeelMusic My school just got the music, can’t wait to play
Awesome! Which part are you playing?
@@EricPeelMusic Parts aren’t assigned yet. I’m going to ask for a mallet I think.
Whichever part you receive, I wish you the best experience possible!
How do you manage to get from D major to E major but go thorough Bb major, Gb major, and Db major. It is so awesome.
Where there’s a will, there’s a way! Thanks for watching and commenting.
what program do you use to make the recordings?
Virtual Drumline.
