  • This year I decided to get serious about improving low speed control. I've made a lot of progress, but in my quest to master this machine, mistakes were, and will continue to be made. I fell doing 18' U-Turn practice. Bike is fine, and I didn't feel a thing.

Great control on the ones you made, impressive on such a big bike. Sorry for the scratches.

In my limited prospective, you didnt look through the turn and even though your rpms was up, the clutch was wasnt engaged enough. Great job learning from it. Thats why we practice. 😊

I think you're right. Not enough power for the lean angle.

I'm looking to avoid going down on my street glide so I'm going to take new rider course even though im 73 but I'm rusty lol

Went down last night just the same way, practicing u-turns. HaHa, its never fun... but important. I now have the exact same scratches as you.
Today I am installing some plastic guards to my bars. It should give me just a tad more protection for the next time. I plan to keep pushing through until I get it.

Yeah, it's the price of progress 🙄

I was surprised by the damage to the foot board mount. That thing really got chewed up. I got a new one, but I'm not putting it on yet. I really don't want to drop again!

@@bluesriderDF no one will ever notice, I plan to just take mine off and paint it black so it doesn’t rust. But otherwise who cares.

I have no clue what went wrong either 🤷‍♂️
I’m on a trike so U-Turns are pretty simple

Have you at least taken it up on 2 wheels? 😁

I’m paralyzed from arms down, so I stay away from doing all the crazy Dukes of Hazard stunt riding. 😎👍

Practice makes perfect! I think you lost some re-entry speed on that first try. Maybe don't pull the ripcord so soon, lol. Good job, buddy.

Ha ha! Yeah, I realized I was going too slow for a turn that tight.

Looks like you didn't keep up enough speed to keep enough centrifugal force on the top side to keep it from falling.

Great to hear from you buddy! Yeah that's what I think also. Fortunately the damage wasn't too bad.

I think you could make your life easier with counterbalancing, like cops do, instead of leaning in. At least I find it helps on slow maneuvers. Crash bars sure paid off this time 🙂

I've been watching Motoman and Robert Simmons, they don't teach counterbalancing on these tight turns. I know there's a place for it, eg cone weaves. Still lots to learn! Thanks for posting. 👊

Hit your front brake and/or bike was too slow is my guess

    • @bluesriderDF

Definitely not the front brake, I keep my right hand wrapped around the grip. I needed more power. Live and learn right?
