I test drove a 2005 Focus yesterday. 5 speed manual, 2.0 liter enigne. The handling, acceleration , and ride were fantastic. I had no preconcpetions for the car and was absolutely shocked at what a fun car it is to drive. I really did not expect that. I didnt expect its performance and acceleration to be so good. I've stopped looking at other makes and models now because I just fell in love with the Focus. The only downside to the one I test drove was it had 275K km's on it, but it still ran like a scalded dog. The price was low because the K's were high, though. I'm still considering it, but in the meantime I'm trying to find one with less than 200,000 km's even if the price is a little higher, and there are plenty around with an average of 168K kms to 195K km's.
I regularly drive a 1.6 petrol powershift focus titanium spec and these are my 2 cents: -Car is impressive around corners and has very little body roll -The cabin is very well insulated -Suspension is a bit harsh even on 16 inch wheels -Rear seats are very firm and uncomfortable for long journeys. Front seats are ok and have good lateral support -the dash board layout is very confusing and unintuitive -Boot size is not as good as other rivals (as stated in the review) -Avoid the powershift at ALL costs. This has to be by far the worst dual clutch transmission ever made.

Can't be more agreed with you Absolutely right for everything what you said , nice motorway cruiser but ugly and unpractical interior, very bad designed dash and instruments, bad seats, and horrible layout under bonnet if you need to work on yourself.
I just bought a used 2012 focus that was once a rental car and its in great shape. If the focus can withstand a year or so as a rental car and still look like its new then it should be fine on the quality scale.
I totally see what you guys mean. I'm American and every time I turn around there's another Chevrolet Tahoe or Ford Mustang. When I was in England, it felt as though I had moved about 20 years ahead in motoring and economy. I mean, all I want for my first car is a Honda Civic Si; Sporty, economical, comfortable, and all while keeping the ice caps from melting. But the only reason we don't use diesel as much in smaller cars is because it's much more expensive here than gas (petrol).
The trunk is smaller than average because the car has a multi link rear suspension. Compared to my previous Civic 8g, the boot is smaller, but the car handles much better.
as a student i would agree that you wouldn't need that big an engine to get you around, just as long as it goes nice and decent. And the interior's well made..
I owned the mk2 focus st and loved it for raw speed and power recently I’ve ditched a 7 seater and opted to go for the mark 3 focus zetec s mainly because I could quite afford an st or rs but I bloody love it whilst it may lack serious power there’s nothing about it I dislike and it’s certainly a cheaper alternative for a little performance
My dream hot hatch or hatch at all is the GTI/Golf. But if life doesn't work out I'd be more than glad to have this focus. Hell I'd take the fiesta, everytime time I see one it puts a smile on my face (the fiesta that is).
I just think the older Fords failed on electric windows, because when my parents had a 1998 Fiesta, the only problem it ever had was the driver's electric window.
Mine has just turned over 200K miles on the original motor and clutch. No interior rattles or squeaks either. Still getting 60 mpg. I would say ford did a good job
My goodness this comment section..... Is this a car review video or a post all your anti-American comments board??? Regardless, I love my 2014 Focus model. Absolutely perfect!
I previously owned the Focus before this model, the Mark 2. It was a great car with ample space inside, I kept it for 6 years. I recently went on a 300 mile trip in a friend's car as a passenger in this new model Focus tested here. It was nothing like my old Focus. It is very cramped inside in front and rear, the roof has been lowered to make the car look visually sportier and I found getting out the rear of it akin to being a contortionist, I'm 5-11 tall but I found I had to bend longways and dip my head under the upper door frame to lever myself out like a belly dancer. On the way home I sat in the front. The front seats are bucket shaped and were clearly made for either a dwarf or a 7 stone woman. The footwells are big enough to sit with your knees only about 6 inches apart. This car in fact reminded me of a 1975 Fiat 126 inside where the car is actually sprayed onto you and looks like a metal jacket. If you are thinking about buying one of these and are over 5'-9" tall and not skinny, I seriously recommend a long test drive and several entries in and out the car to see how it feels, to me it felt like being driven in a can of sardines or one of those fairground dodgem cars. This new model does look better from the outside than the Mark 2, but at a high cost of space lost.
I agree with you 100%, live in the US and work for a Ford dealer. The only diesel we offer are in big heavy duty trucks. If Ford offered a diesel in the focus and fiesta, the hybrid technology would be killed. What type of gas mileage do cars with diesels get in the UK? I have talked to Ford people and they are planning of bringing diesel cars over, but I truly think it will never happen. :(
I just tested the US version of the focus titanium sedan recently. The steering wheel looks allot bigger in this video than it actually is. Does the European version not have MyFord touch with sync? Personally I thought it was the coolest feature of the whole car. You can control climate, radio, phone, iPod, navigation, and satellite radio by voice commands. The European version offers features that the US version does not have. Like auto start stop, sign recognition, and diesel engine.
I'm not sure there is such a thing as the perfect car. No matter how much you like it, there is probably always going to be one or two things to complain about.
@zfirer Oh, and if you thought that was weird, I can tell you that cars like the BMW X3, X5 and X6 are all built in the US. These cars are SUV's and cars like the Mercedes GL and ML, which also are SUV's, are also made in the US, and so are the R-class.
@FMcD I think the Mini convertible, that’s the summer bit sorted with the roof, it looks great, it’s got decent power, decent insurance group, it’s iconic, it’s fun to drive especially round corners, it’s well built becuase it's owned by BMW
Ford is working on that, one of Fords 4 main improvements is 'drive green' and so even the new Explorer is fuel efficient. There are many cars that the U.S have that Europe doesn't, like the Explorer which would do well in the U.K and maybe the Taurus SHO.
Thanks for the review. I think I'll be going for one of these towards the end of the year. For me, it's the the best looking of all the similar cars with good all round performance (Although I prefer the interior on the Ford site). It looks sporty enough without looking like a scally car!

Nice, but I'm kinda wondering why a Euro version of the Focus still has MPH bolder then KPH on the speedometer. When I buy, it will be between the Ford Focus wagon, the Chevy Sonic LTZ, and the Subaru Impreza wagon.
Eco is always better than anything. Plus, with car tax in the UK, the lower the co2 emissions, the lower the tax prices. I think the highest cO2 emission you should have is 165g/km or lower.
I have this but as with most new Ford diesels the dual mass flywheel causes clunking when changing gear etc. Apart from that it's a nice little car but I would definitely get petrol to avoid this issue.
Hey, i wonder if someone can help me. I'm 19 years old and looking to get a new car. I'm my mothers full time carer and we're entitled to a motability car. But im not sure which car to get. This new focus has been near the top of my choices for a while. What im after is something that is relatively roomy, stylish and something that isnt gunna be slugish but also need something that we can enjoy the summer's in. Other choices i was lookin at where the Punto Evo, Mini convertible, C3 and new C4.
What's the build quality like, I've seen a few of these new Fords and it doesn't seem to take long for them to start looking a bit worse for wear, obviously a lot of it depends on how the owners treat them but I've seen a 18 month old Focus with badges beginning to fall off and panel gaps so inconsistent they would put an old Leyland bus to shame, my grandfather always uses the philosophy of "if Ford can't make a good car then nobody can" but I find they go for driving ability instead of quality
Just bought a Fiesta didn't like the look of the new Focus, its a car which looks ugly in some colours, but in white it looks kind of better! Had a MK1 model for 10 years.... best handling and most reliable car I have ever owned.
I loveeee mu focus! 10 plate and idc if it dont holds its value cos i still never had any problems with it, everyone i know who has an vw golf in the other hand... Loool they always complain how unreliable that crap is yet so many ppl buy it have no idea why
He seems a little biased IMO. The fact that their common as muck and trade in value that's probably worst in class plus came 55th in the latest JD Power survey says it all for the Focus. Great to drive but thats it.
@ceeed09 I think this new Ford Focus looks better in person. And maybe dynamics have gotten a little bit lower compared with last generation but there is also more power this time. And I don´t think the Electric steering will take much of that responsibility because the Focus II also had it and it was one of the benchmarks in the segment (I can tell you 100% sure as I have a 2009).
Man this car is awesome.... I can't understand how a Golf don't get to loose as much money as the Focus at resale time... I drive a mk5 Golf, so I am not biased towards the Focus. But this car is better in every single way. VW from 2009-2012 are extremely unreliable.
My first car was 4 cylinder, and my second is a 4-cylinder, but I'm Canadian haha. But its pretty much impossible to find a 1 Litre engine in North America.
As a American teen, i would have to disagree. now we dont get 1.0 liters but we do get smaller cars. i would love to have this focus for my first car. i would not want to get a v6 so there you go.
@Pracer7 I can notice a difference between Astra and Focus from 200 meters away, at any angle. People always whine about cars looking the same. Well, what do you want? A 7 door convertible with upside down seats? Its a hatchback, there's only so little you can do to distinguish the cars. And yes, again, There is a big difference between Astra and Focus since they dont have a single detail or line that similar on their body. If you want a different car buy Citroen DS4.
Infinite respect, and I agree. Also, look at what 16 year old American teens get for their first car and look at what 17 year old Brits get. 16 year old Americans get V6 engined gas suckers or Earth killing hundreds of CO2 emission cars. Us British get 1.0 engined cars. They sip petrol, very economical and compact, and cheap to run. Americans would hate to get that. They're so spoilt.
Every review I've read or seen the reviewer raves over the handling. The steering and ride is premium and that to me is important. If a car looks great and drives like shit I'm less inclined to buy it. I'm seriously considering buying a titanium model.

When i get the license i want to test drive this car. If its good i may buy it
I like his reviews, and I like this car.
Man this car is awesome.... I can't understand how a Golf don't get to loose as much money as the Focus at resale time... I drive a mk5 Golf, so I am not biased towards the Focus. But this car is better in every single way. VW from 2009-2012 are extremely unreliable.
does the gearbox feel jerky?
My first car was 4 cylinder, and my second is a 4-cylinder, but I'm Canadian haha. But its pretty much impossible to find a 1 Litre engine in North America.
@MacGyver920 Aren't they all made in the same place?
I remember him saying he was 5ft 10 and a half in certain reviews.
As a American teen, i would have to disagree. now we dont get 1.0 liters but we do get smaller cars. i would love to have this focus for my first car. i would not want to get a v6 so there you go.
How do I get the seats to fold like that? Is there a switch or something? The car salesman didnt even know...Maybe only in Europe?
the focus 2 had electric steering too!
are you 5ft 11 or 5ft 10 thanks
I like how he's short but judged the headroom anyway
The highest 17 year old brits would get is a 1.6 Focus. Eco and performance in a cheaply insured package.
Now they'd be geting the 1 litre ecoboosts
Idk for sure, but Im guessing Zetec or Zetec S, by the wheels.
It's so weird seeing the steering wheel on the passenger side lol
review the Fiat Bravo and tell me which car's better the Fiat or the Ford
It is clear; in this class- golf, focus or astra..
lol... how about civic, mazda 3 and auris
Yeah they do look nice but need an engine option which has some punch. They don't come anywhere near to the power choice you get with the Focus.
Hey, arent you the guy from carwow?
He is
@Pracer7 I can notice a difference between Astra and Focus from 200 meters away, at any angle.
MK1 Focus looks better than any other focus out there
Infinite respect, and I agree.
The steering wheel is just huge...
The whole car looks like Fiesta, but bigger.
@Ragref what do you mean?
Got rid of Cr v and got on of these silver , titanium ,19 inch alloys AP13BZL
He was 5ft 11 and a HALF in the Honda Civic review. It obviously just depends on if he's wearing his heels on the day.
Pity they didn't continue the Ghia trim level , they were nice cars.
Every review I've read or seen the reviewer raves over the handling. The steering and ride is premium and that to me is important. If a car looks great and drives like shit I'm less inclined to buy it. I'm seriously considering buying a titanium model.
