This is excellent, the way he's breaking down the real voodoo vs. the fetish "fake charm" voodoo we've been told about and scared away from. These are the types of interviews where you have to look at multiple times to grasp the full understanding. Thank you for all your informative videos most of all thanks for this one in particular

Did you hear him speak of the true spelling of vodun not voodoo they don't recognize that spelling he said it's Western ideology and gives their way of spelling it. I only say this because you spelled it as voodoo which is not wrong or right it's your choice, I just wanted to know if you heard him speak of this.

I appreciate you and this work SOOOO much, my brotha. I’ve been feeling the call to visit Africa for a few years now, particularly for understanding the spirituality. Learning more and more of what was NOT taught in Eurocentric schools. Also, thank you for putting this whole Israelites belief to rest! WE ARE AFRICAN!!! We don’t these bibles and Qurans. We are born divine! Vodun will show our people that!

You can be African and be of Hebrew Israelites descent because African is just a continent while the latter is a specific group of people. The Hebrew Israelites preachers go over board sometimes but there are two many similarities with Old Testaments spirituality and Vodou to be ignored. To begin with the word Vodou just means Spirits and God is Spirit...There's so much more. There's also language similarities and stories contained in Vodou that mirrors the Bible. The problem with the Hebrew Israelites preachers is that they have also taken whole white supremacy that comes packaged with Christianity and they express very racist views against Vodou and practitioners.

    • @Neko.Virtual

voodoo is basically making contact and worshipping spirits who are a creation but Islam and Christianity only preach that instead we should worship the creator or the supreme spirit that created all spirits

The question at 24:54 is everything. Brilliant question and it's very interesting to hear his perspective, because remember, he can only give you "his"perspective as to how this could happen. It had nothing to do with the power of voodoo, or the ineffectiveness of it. Colonialism had everything to do with the journey of men - deceit, treachery, greed, bullying, envy, and more. The religion applied through this atrocity speaks for itself over history, and up to this day. Voodoo works, black spirituality works. Humanity as a whole overcame many atrocities with their spirit mind (voodoo) etc. They continue to do so.

We’re not talking about a person living in an apartment. We’re talking about allegedly millions of Jews coming to a country which would have left behind a significant amount of oral traditions and an impact on the entire countries culture. Griot’s are known for keeping oral traditions alive so I wouldn’t see the problem with asking someone about what the history of their own country says, especially if they are in tune with their countries oral traditions and cultures.
How is this similar to a new resident moving into a house and being asked about the prior resident? That new resident can ask the landlord about the prior residents, the new resident can also ask the neighbors about the prior resident and gather more information that way. False equivalence.

Isaiah 8:19 Someone may say to you, “Let’s ask the mediums and those who consult the spirits of the dead. With their whisperings and mutterings, they will tell us what to do.” But shouldn’t people ask God for guidance? Should the living seek guidance from the dead

Great interview..mostly because, this is an excellent example of what it looks like to try and understand "traditional African" sensibilities and paradigms via an American educated lens.
The majority of the dialogue is looking at the difference in understanding vodou as aspects, energies, entities of nature and creation (aka, divinity) vs fetish as elements of magic that are not divine......

Correct me if im wrong. The elder and translator said the sole purpose of voodun is protection and because the European came and befriended the Afrikan it was to late to use the power of voodun aka protection. Our kindness was our downfall. Dr. Clark said this alot just as the elder said. So since we are sick in behavior and thought from the European influence we cannot free ourselves. All the elders are singing the same song and no one is listening nor dancing. I wish Search for Uhuru could have asked the elder about the origins of the European because alot of people say they are cast aways and came back for revenge.

The problem Richard talked about concerning the false priests and con-men using Vodou to steal people's money happens a lot in Haiti, among other places. I think the problem is the lack of structure and regulation within the Vodou communities. People do whatever they want without any oversight. Vodou needs to have some regional government bodies in place to protect the integrity of the craft. Just like they do in Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.

    • @restlesman
      @restlesman 5 років тому +4

Actually, they've taken some steps in Haiti to give vodoo some structure. They have a high priest over the whole country... But with all the many instabilities, it'll take a very long time to fully implement some formalization and rules.

dont for get my people the gullah/geechee people who have hoodoo. The Difference that you were talking about when it comes to spelling has something to do with the Slave Trade. Originally/Traditionally it is called Vodoun. When were got displaced the named changed but it still is the same thing. In slavery it wasnt permitted to speak any other language or practice any other religion but christianity and over time the original African terms broke down and some were changed purposely to throw slave masters off, because it was a punishable offense. Vodoun and Voodoo of Louisiana Creole and Haiti have the same deities and is the ceremonial practice/ The religion but with western influences like incorporating saints for the African deities to mask it from slave masters because it was punishable. African names may be pronounced differently but similar to the original. There are even some native american shaman stuff mixed in as well. It is the same in Puerto Rico. the practice is called Santeria. We all came from pretty much the same place. in Santeria they use Yoruba-Catholic Deities and Palo Mayombe, Kongolese traditions. Hoodoo Of the Gullah/Geechee and the Bohamian who are pretty much us is not a religion or a denomination of a religion. It is the Folk Magik or root work, the other part of voodoo. The act of magic, charms, and talismans. for exmaple the European Bible would be a talisman. Grave dirt (goofer dirt)could be a charm. Plants and erbs would be used for medicine or worse. Tucked in a pouch called mojo bags. Hoodoo shows evident links to the practices and beliefs of Fon and Ewe spiritual folkways. In the Americas, the worship of the Vodoun loa is syncretized with Roman Catholic saints. The Vodou of Haiti, Voodoo of Louisiana, and Vudú of Puerto Rico, Cuba, and Dominican Republic are related more to Vodun than to Hoodoo. I believe it's because voodoo is the religion where as hoodoo is the magic. That is scholars say voodoo and hoodoo is different but they are racist. They say hoodoo have no deities but it's not true. Like legba of all people who practice vodoun weather it be Santeria in Puerto Rico nd other Spanish countries, or vodu in Haiti, or voodoo of Louisiana. The gullah also has him, it's just not in plain sight because of our secrecy and oppression in slavery like I said before. We the Gullah Geechee people simply say the black man at the crossroads. He is also legba. You see it demonized in pop culture all the time. Like the show "Supernatural" where people go to the crossroads to make a deal with a demon.

Rootman Junior I'm from New Jersey my great great grandparents and their children left Georgia in the 1930's. I found out about being geechee from my grandma about 10 years ago. My great great grandparents didn't speak English. With each generation speaking less and less. My grandmother and her siblings are the last to speak it but it's only a few words here and there. Her mostly her older sisters did root work and use to make charms for protection for the men in the family who was in the streets. We pretty much fit in now sounding and acting like everyone else, but some of my family still get made fun of because they sound different. My step mom still to this day make fun of my mom side mimicking the way they talk calling us retarded. Though we don't speak Geechee anymore some of my family still have a accent that's not really Caribbean like u see on the internet. They call em slow and put em in speech classes. I asked my dad why do some of em sound like that because I didn't no anything about what a geechee was. He said even though my mom's family been her for generations geechee in our blood and it's where we come from. My great grandma use to make the baskets but I never new anything about sweet grass baskets and Africa. She taught my grandma, my mom, and I think my older sister can make em if she didn't forget. That was like the girl thing to do in my family. Now I'm currently trying to relearn the language of my family and it's history because not many of my family care these days which is why I believe my grandma told me. She knew I wasn't goin to give up on learning it. Everybody else pretty much caught up in living their own life. My family wasn't like that in the 80's.

Theeosiris Trenton I think hoodoo might be odu ifa/odu afa in Yoruba and Igbo. Odu means advice or council or utterances. Afa or ifa is basically divination. Basically it is reading nature.

Global African Tribalism for Self-Government yea I would agree. They both are with many other tribes the ancestors to the Gullah people. I would say it's a mixture. We also believe in spirit and soul as separate. Once you die one goes to heaven back to the source and the other if it's good influence life of its family guiding then. If it is bad they become boo hags looking like people and at night shedding it's skin sucking the life from people. This is where we get the saying a witch is in your back..or a witch is riding your back, or just Boo hag riding.

So, either YAH just hates black people, OR, He's deaf, dumb, bind and stupid because he's not aware of all these other people doing the exact same thing he punished us for. Ahhh, no booboo, no!

    The funny thing is,…
in Hebrew Judah is pronounced as Yehuda,
    in Arabic it’s pronounced Wahda,
so quite similar to Whydah or Ouidah
And the reason why some Europeans pronounced Ouidah as Judah is because it has a similar pronunciation and word structure to Judah in Hebrew, so they used the same etymological and phonological methods to translate it, so Ouidah doesn’t have to be pronounced with a J sound to be correct.
And because you don’t know about how Europeans modify pronunciation and change Y’s to J’s, this just shows the ignorance of etymology, if you didn’t know that Judah in Hebrew is pronounced as even a Y or W is basic knowledge.
Also I’m not saying that Ouidah definitively means Judah, for the simple fact just because a word sounds the same or similar to one in another language, doesn’t mean it has the same root-word, definition, etymology, or meaning, and could just be a false cognate instead of a true one.
But completely ruling out the possibility of it somehow being connected, out of the equation is somewhat disingenuous.
