The engineers seen to have gone out of their way to make switching out bulbs or maintenance impossible on this car. I had to do the same. When I buy another car, I'm going to check how to replace the head lights, and I seriously doubt it will be another Chevy.
Paid $275 at dealer for both headlights about a year and a few months ago. Now the right has gone out again.... I’ll be riding with one eye for a while.... hate this car!
My replacement last 3 years before it went out. I had an 04 Mali. That car was so easy to maintain. No engine cover. Change the headlights from under the hood. Miss that car.
The bottom interior corner of the lens---does it tuck underneath the fascia or is it hanging over the top? I struggled with this yesterday on a customer's car. Soldering in the new high-temp bulb connector was easy, everything else was not, lol.
i need to change the turn signal. I wish you spent any real amount of time examining the headlight assembly so that i could have tried to figure out where the blinker is and how to remove it
it is ridiculous to have to take all this stuff apart when just a few years ago you just pulled two clips off and the headlight popped out and you just put new bulbs in. lke my 2005 monte carlo. but its how they make money, its just a lot of clips and bolts and you have to be careful.
you don't have to remove the bumper. just under the wheel well just remove the outer plugs 3 of them then the screw pop the bumper next to the bulb and then another screw holding the bulb. push down on the light and pull the bulb and change the bulb reverse process.
@@ALLMUSCLEUSA Surely one will not bend the bumper enough to crack the paint....or that GM's paint is good enough not to crack under stress....? Who knows, after all it is GM.
Go in through the wheel well, remove a couple clips to pull the liner out of the way. A little yank on the bumper will get it away from the headlight assembly far enough to access one 10mm bolt that will release the headlight assembly and you can swap out the bulb. Five minutes per side.
Thanks for this video. You may want to warn viewers to never touch the new bulbs with their finger tips - the oil from your fingers can cause the new bulb to crack and fail when you turn the lights on and the bulb heats up. You may have mentioned that, but if so, I missed it. Thanks again for showing your viewers how to save money. P.S. Rumor has it that GM has entered into a partnership with Apple for certain service work - to change a headlight bulb under warranty in their new cars, an Apple tech in Cupertino CA has to perform the work, or the entire vehicle warranty will be null and void. Owner has to ship the vehicle to and from Cupertino at his or her own expense to have the work performed.
@@ALLMUSCLEUSA i have talked to several mechanics that i trust and they all tell me that will work. However you might want them on occasions such as funerals or other events..
Yep, Chevy dealership charged my wife $175.00 for both..I started taking it to my local garage $120.00. Ridiculous what has to be done just to change a headlight bulb.
More like $150 to $200 to get both headlight bulbs replaced, whether the dealership or some national chain repair shop. It's all due to the tedious, step-by-step procedure to take all of this off and them milking the clock. You can actually do this in 5 minutes, too, by only doing two steps. Search for yourself on UA-cam by using "How to Change Headlight Bulb 2008-12 Chevy Malibu in 3 Minutes or Less" in your search. I really hate Chevy for designing these Malibus with their headlights hidden away.
You don't have to remove the bottom half, just the top bolts and clips. Remove the federal well clips and the one 10mm. The bumper will pull out far enough to gain access to the bulbs.
I actually cheered for you when you finally reached the lightbulb. It was like watching the characters of the show LOST finally make it off the island 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
LOL are you really Ford technicians regarding on your shirt ? working on the Chevy ! You guys took off so many unnecessary parts to replace light bulk .
people dont realize almost al the newer cars are made like this now, its so people will take them in to have them fixed so they can make money, yo have to be good at this sort of work to do it yourself or you will break things, at least this guy take the cover off completely like you are supposed to to keep from damaging anything further.
Wake up every body do it urself save alot of money buy cheaper bulbs or headlights go online dont use dealership cuz too expensive and it cost alot to do better free urself but this video helps you alot so thank to this man helping you guys have a great day
While you have done all that labor to take it apart its a good investment to go ahead and replace high and low beams on both sides. You dont want to put it back together only to have another one go out two weeks later.
After helping someone with this car I now check the ease of changing simple things.. If I can't do it in a parking lot or a driveway in under five Minutes you can keep the sob! Great video!
I did this job the correct way. The way you are talking about is Novice. The short cut you are talking about risks spider cracking the paint on the front bumper and breaking several plastic clips. If you want to give people advise make sure it is good advice. Novice!
The first time we changed it but it was a hassel. We then decided to use the dealer. The local dealer charged $150. We normally go to a regular car shop and pay $100. This time we're DIYing it our self again. 🙈
At 13:00 anyone know what the plastic part is that's vertical under the screw that's being taken out? It's the part with horizontal ridges on it? I would say it's close to 10-12 inches long. This came loose or was loose when I took bumper off?
Gotta love GM engineers. Take a simple consumable part and turn it into a major repair job. I guess we can expect more of this as the young engineers that never held a wrench will be drawing the pretty pictures. Yikes!
PAUL E. It's nothing more than a money making scheme. They all get together in a circle jerk eating mushrooms and say yeeeeeeeeeaaaayyyy!!!! We will make it so they gotta bring it back to the dealer... Mooonnnneey......motherfuckers.
I have a question. Is the low beam the same as the high beam? Like the light. I want to buy different colors. But are the light bulbs it’s self different or the same just that they have different functions? So I can but 4 light bulbs the same colors to replace all. I have a Chevy Malibu 2008.
Thank you. I spent $300 6 years ago on headlight bulbs. Now I have a signal light out. Not going back to the garage. Thanks for the video I’ll be doing it myself.
I have an 2011 ltz model, we got to do ours today. Thank goodness my husband knows how to do it, it is very time consuming for sure. Next time I get a newer car, it won't be this model for sure. Ugh.
had to do this also and was very frustrating. now my tail light is out and funny thing is its just remove 3 wingnut style nuts in the trunk and it pops right out. Headlights are a huge pain but they made the tail light easy as hell! From now on if the hood doesn't meet the headlight assembly, I won't buy the car lol. good video thank you sir!
One of the better videos on this. I liked the detailed shots on where the screws were, and how a couple of them were different. I was surprised it only took you 10 minutes to actually get at the bulbs, considering that you hadn't done this before. I have to do this on Saturday, and I'm not looking forward to it. It will be around 32 degrees F in my garage, and I'm not particularly handy.
FOLLOW-UP: It took me 2-1/2 hours for the whole job. The one thing not covered by this video is a little trick to help you get the headlights removed and reinstalled. The headlights are attached to the car with two upward L-brackets on the back of the white plastic headlamp assembly which slide up into two slots in the car body from the bottom... but there is also a small post at the very rear of each lamp assembly, made of the same white plastic. A black clip on the car body covers the bottom part of the slot for this white plastic post. To remove the headlamp easier, undo the 10mm bolt that secures the top of this black clip. This allows you to pull aside the black clip, uncovering the bottom part of the slot. The headlight will now slide straight down and out for you to do your replacement. To re-install the headlamp, place the white post into the bottom of the slot, and slide the headlamp assembly straight back up into the two slots. You can then snap the black clip back into place under the white post, and re-fasten all three bolts to finish mounting the headlight back onto the car. You'll know you got it right if the gap between headlamp and body is small (less than a quarter inch). If the gap is more than a quarter inch, you didn't get the L-Bracket into the slot behind the low beam. Thanks for a great video... it gave the the courage to try it myself, and I referred back to it three times to insure I was doing it right.
Inherited my 2012 Malibu from my brother a year ago. Nice car - yes, stupid design for replacing bulbs. Thanks for the video.
Well done, being careful and patient. thanks for the good video
The engineers seen to have gone out of their way to make switching out bulbs or maintenance impossible on this car.
I had to do the same. When I buy another car, I'm going to check how to replace the head lights, and I seriously doubt it will be another Chevy.
almost all cars are like this now
Very informative. Best of the four videos that I watched.
Lmfao. .....good shit. Transmission and engine removal. Funny shit.
Thanks for this video , I have the same problem .
The engineer that designed that should have been FIRED
The engineer should have to replace people's bulbs for life lol

Luckily the right side on my 2007 Malibu, I took off two(2) bolts. Whew, was I lucky!!
The bottom interior corner of the lens---does it tuck underneath the fascia or is it hanging over the top? I struggled with this yesterday on a customer's car. Soldering in the new high-temp bulb connector was easy, everything else was not, lol.

I LOVE those chrome wheels. Anybody know the exact model etc? Do they have an 18" version for an LTZ gen 7 Malibu?

love the vid
I have same car. And i didn't have to take whole bumper off car.
220$ on top of the 50$ for the bulbs!
This is ridiculous how they designed this car I just imagine how the tail lights is like good grief🤔🤔
1999 Honda crv side
marker left side.
It's so much easier to do tail lights. Thre nuts and done
dont you konw whjat a steady shot is?
you don't have to remove the bumper.
just under the wheel well just remove the outer plugs 3 of them then the screw pop the bumper next to the bulb and then another screw holding the bulb. push down on the light and pull the bulb and change the bulb reverse process.
I've seen that done before. Be careful not to spider crack the paint on the bumper.

Did this a month ago and that shit made me so frustrated but i love my ‘09 malibu. Great video!
Great video! You're right. The design of the headlights is just plain stupid.

Ok !.....
😂
If you pull the daytime running fuse they will last longer. Otherwise you will be doing this again soon.
That's a good tip. Does the DRL fuse control anything else in the car?

I went to Midas 12/3/22 thought it was head lights bugs it turn out to be headlight connectors paid 395.36
Did it myself fuck that didn't care for the quote.. Done worst work for less pay with my ex..
Great video. It's BS what they did with this. Seriously ridiculous
Takes about 5 minutes if you go through the wheel well, don't need to do all this work.
Would it be better if i went through the wheel well to adjust the lights?
Excellent video for a ridiculous operation. Simple, easy to follow with good camera work and commentary.
I knew there was a reason I decided to buy an Impala instead of one of these... They're much easier to do
This so so dumb. I have to do this today and I am not looking forward to it... ugh. But thank you for sharing this!
replace all bulbs while you have this apart or you will taking it apart again soon!

dont use power tools on plastic parts and dont over tighten like most people do.
I just changed my 2012 Malibu headlights it's a pain in the ass I understand that u have 2 cussed it sucks S.M.D.H what was GM thinking!!!!!!
I need to adjust the headlights in a 2012 Malibu. Would it be quicker if I popped the hood or go through the wheel well?
