I've been drawing on my phone for a year now and having a screen larger than my phone and an apple pencil is blessing enough for me.I will now say goodbye to my rubber tip stylus and my drawing app on my phone lmao
mochi gochi i was just about to say something like this. i draw on my phone so the mini will be great
@@kenneeh1513 yaa
Just curious, which app do you use for drawing?.
@@JuanNOnly123 iPad artists mostly use procreate
Honestly you’re my main source of art tablet reviews now. I looked around for a good review that related to drawing and nothing. Thanks for the great work you do!
Thanks 😁
Got iPad mini5 and Apple Pencil yesterday. No problem so far. 😊👍🏻
Oh oh! What art apps can you get on it?
Any problems yet?
How was it?
bro can we use Photoshop and illustrator on ipad mini 5
Meanwhile I’m crying because my parents will not get me one😔
I'm watching this more than a year after your post. I've recently gotten a Mini as a gift and am looking for reviews on using it as a drawing tool. I've read a technical review and it was really helpful, but I love how you also included the experience of drawing itself in yours: How your hand will fall in the tablet, or how you can hold it and so on. Thank you so much.
I love watching your review videos because they are focused on artists needs. I think I will buy this iPad because it has a nice processor, a laminated display, it’s portable, and because of the size it might be good for taking notes as well. Thanks for the help
Have you used the Apple pencil before?
Shikk hhi yes
@@mmcanhaoable but did u face any problems with it because I saw that the Pencil got less than 3.0/5 stars on the official Apple website... and the main reason I wanted an ipad was the apple pencil.
Shikk hhi i am enrolled in a course where we have access to many of these devices and I’ve been using the new ipad pro with the apple pencil 2nd generation and it works flawlessly. Today i had the chance to also experiment with the 1st generation apple pencil and an older 10.5 inches ipad pro, it works as amazingly as the newer one. The only differences between the two apple pencils are the design (the first one is glossy and round while the second is more squared and matte), the way they charge (the first needs to be connected to the lighting port on the ipad and the second charge by magnetic induction) and the fact that the second apple pencil have a touchable area that can interact with some apps like procreate. Other than that, they are equally good and work perfectly
@@mmcanhaoable Thankyou for giving your time and clarifying my doubt!😊
I had a 10th gen iPad ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxhcEDB3r-OJ3_X5hQzr7k1ZofTQy1ao_U . Felt it getting pretty slow at times even after doing a reset. So I am using that as a tablet for my 5 year old son and got this 9th gen version. MUCH faster, a little slimmer, smaller bezels, all around a leap forward. Plus, for the price that’s about $130-$150 cheaper than a current new model this is a nice deal. I look forward to the M-series CPUs coming into iPads which will really help future proof these tablets better but these latest CPUs are pretty strong and should do better to last several years with no compromises.
I'm a 10 year old artist with tiny hands. I dont think I'll have any issues :)
Tiny Hands Tiny Tablet
I’m getting one too lol I’m 10 too! 😂
I am 5
i am 1 day old
aww
Watching on my 5days Old IpadMini 5. I’m Glad I got 1 , so smooth and everything is great so far 👍👍👍
This was the first of all these IPad Mini 5 Videos out there that answered the question how it performs with the stylus. I’m not an artist, but still wanted to get an impression how writing on this device would look like. Great video! Thanks a lot!
Welcome. Glad the video is helpful
either this or air 3. The portability of this one really caught my eye tho
I wish they would continue the mini series by making it bezeless.
Wait for September 2021
well now your in luck!
Looks like a nice size for traveling. More Ram equals almost 3 times less layers sounds like some kind of control by Apple. I've been using a Samsung Note for years and you get used to not being able to test your palm. When painting you don't rest your palm either (at least I don't) and when I'm sketching in a smaller sketchbook it's not rested either. Just a matter of getting used to. Now all we need is a travel size lightweight Apple Pencil.
Benjamin A the Apple Pencil is already light weight
@@tatelangdon compared to my Huion Pen and my Staedtler Noris Digital it's rather heavy. My Bamboo Ink is heavier, but better balanced.
You need i little weight so it actually feels like a pencil and you can have more control
thank you for the review, I was wondering what the mini would be like as an art tool.
Hello from Canada, Teoh! I really enjoy your reviews and perspective as an artist.
Thank you 😁
I own an iPad mini 5 and after wading through a couple videos, I came across yours. Finally felt I should subscribe and I did. Thanks!
What an excellent, thorough, interesting review!
Thank you so much, this is very informative!
I've always wanted a good small portable drawing tablet since my surface pro 3 is kinda heavy to be portable. I ended up getting the 10.5 ipad instead and I'm glad. Anything smaller would make the drawing uncomfortable. I'm glad I went this route then getting either the small surface go or this ipad mini. At the small size, it simply becomes too hard to draw freely. good video.
Hi, I like the depth in your reviews- and, in fact... that you are pleasently calm. B.R from Denmark..
Thanks. Glad you found the review helpful :-)
@@teohyc I am an architecht . been sketching a lot since I was very young ( and I´m very old now ;-) ) . but now I want to go full digital.. so I ´ve just bougth the Kamvas 22 pro for the desktop ( architechts love large sheets. :-) but now I need a tablet for both note taking and sketching on the building sites.... again - thanks for your reviews. B.R Christian Fabricius / Copenhagen.
I think that’s a really good point. His reviews are just perfectly paced, no stupid background music and flashy intro graphic, just get right to the point. And not using standard Apple marketing materials is a big plus. Thanks @Teoh Yi Chie
An ipad mini that works with Apple Pencil & adobe making photoshop fully functional on ipad this year, 2019 is looking good
I just bought the iPad 2018 today, I hope the processor can keep with the new adobe illustrator for iPads :(
Galih Mukti I think it will do fine with Photoshop so I don’t think you need to worry
@@manav2523 Manav whoa, I didn't expect that different point of view from an iPad pro user. As a laptop and work device replacement, I think it's not there yet. Maybe the iPad pro is for someone who is really mobile?,

Your review make me want this ipad even more. Sadly, I still can’t afford it 😣
very nice, practical review. surprisingly this was an best practical review i've seen up to now since i've been searching for ipad mini 5 review. thanks bro. keep on drawing. love it.
Thank you :-)
I just bought my iPad mini thankful I den this video
My ipad mini 5 is in the mail, but I'll be waiting for the bezel-less, usb-c and apple pencil 2nd gen compatible ipad mini... Oh what heaven that'll be
After using a 2015 ipad pro. I find that it is too cumbersome for out of studio work. I will have to test out the Air and the mini next time I visit my local apple store. But i love the size of my daughters mini 4. I might bet used o using it like my sketchbooks.
Dang. Just recently got the ipad 6. Should have waited for the mini. Having no parallax, faster processor and comfortable size would have been perfect.
#metoo, got mine in January
Same, but I only paid $249 for it so no big deal.
Even with this cons, i think ipad6 is better for artists, the mini screen is so tiny...
I appreciate you sharing your experience with this one, thank you!
Another great and informàl vid Teoh
Thanks :-)
Very helpful. Detailed and to the point. Thank you so much for this.
Your review was so relaxed and informative. Loved it and your artwork.
Thank you 😁
Thankyou for the insigtful video. Many facts, smar5t and useful info - and you speak clear and slow enough for me to follow along nicely! So I bought an new iPad Mini today, after watching your video. Will give Procreate a run next week to find out how it works, compared to iPad Pro. Best wishes, keep the videos coming, please. Greetings from Brisbane, Carsten
Was wondering how it would be like to draw on, nice review Parka!
Hi, I started watching your channel a long time ago when I wanted to learn more about urban sketching.
I then wanted to learn to use watercolor paints and found your videos again.
Earlier this year I discovered sumi painting and sumi inks. I was excited when I came across some of your videos that helped me to choose a sumi ink!
I bought a few different dip pens and nibs. I really enjoy sketching with them.
Right before Christmas I got my first fountain pen. Since then I have collected around 15 low to mid range pens, around 7 full bottles of ink and 20 or more ink samples. (It's addicting!)
I wanted to try a flex pen because I really liked the g nibs that I had tried. I heard that it was possible to put one in a jinhao x750. I ordered one and when it arrived I searched UA-cam for a tutorial and landed on another one of your videos!
Now for the past week or so I have been researching different tablets, computers and chromebooks that might allow me to try some digital sketching! That is how I ended up here!
I am having a hard time choosing which one would be best for me. I have been leaning towards a chromebook because I have never had an apple and just about everything I have is connected to Google. My Windows surface pro 3 seems like it might not last much longer. I have really only been using it for is the internet, UA-cam, Netflix and my music. I keep looking at the Samsung chromebook pro (I like their stylus and price) or the pixelbook and pen. (I like the larger ram and storage) What do you think?
Sorry this is so long. Thank you so much for making such helpful videos. I really enjoy watching them. Seeing your artwork very is inspiring.
If you're just using your SP3 for the purposes you mentioned, you can probably go with the iPad which can do what you said. Not sure about Netflix though so do research on that online. Probably get the 10.5 iPad Air since the size is bigger. The Android systems are not as good for drawing although you can certain draw with them.
@@teohyc I just wanted to let you know that I found a great deal on a very lightly used Ipad pro 10.5 with the pencil and smart keyboard. The first thing I did was purchase procreate. I am loving it so far. I am now looking for a matte screen protector to try out. Thanks again for all your help.
@@safarimom That's great!
Thanks I enjoy your perspective on things since I just got a new iPad mini 📚🎼
Very nice review!😃 Thanks for this, helped me a lot👍🏼
Thank you for making this great video. I have been trying to decide which would be best for my daughter as she does most of her art on her phone and know she has been wanting an apple ipad for a while. Your video has been the most informative and you helped me make my choice. I can't wait for her to open her gift on Christmas morning :D
What do you think of the new mini? Will you be getting it?
Great video thank you. This is exactly what I needed to know ty ty
I forgot to mention that besides being an artist I also use a digital planner, finally I can carry my planner in my purse! Lol ty again
So so helpful. Thank you!!
Great video! I think I will be buying the iPad Mini 5 and Apple Pencil soon. Thanks!
Love this review. Thank you Bro
Thanks loads for this video....it has helped me so so much🤗
Great review! Thank you. I don't have a tablet and I want to buy the Ipad especially for drawing. The information was really clear and good to weight out with option is better, mini or "normal" size :)
Fantastic review! Thank you.
Bought the surface pro 6 (after watching your review) but it was too big and heavy to bring outside. Bought the ipad mini 5 yesterday (also after watching your review) and im liking it so far. ♥️
Does it support palm rejection
@@pocodisplay1629 it does. 😊
Love the tilt pressure review...thank u
android phone + ipad is a good combination I think, So I bought iPad Mini 5 today. amazin device
ugh...the new mini is still not out in my country. It always take like 6-8 months. Then it will be announced🤦
Where country please USA here
seems like its a great upgrade from drawing on my note 8 on the train
Thank you for the information mate 👌
thank you for this extensive review! :D
Great review, Cheers from Australia.
Incredible tech for the price and your review so thorough and informative and you can draw I shall draw you my stick people lol
I am very undecided between mini 5 and air 3. The only difference is the screen size (0,6") and the weight (150g). This difference prevents being able to draw/be with the air 3 in the same ways as with the mini 5?
This is so cute and portable
Your drawings are very beautiful! 💕
Thank you 😁
Nice review and was also really happy to see you have my good friend Karl Kopiskis' book on your shelf :))
Oftentimes I forget to like videos. Your drawing style is very good and very fun and I think to myself “Oh I like that!” I will try to use that to remember to press the like button more often.
You should like the video to remind you that you have watched it 😂
Teoh Yi Chie I know! Lol, I think it and therefore think it counts somehow. I’m getting Too lazy!
I'm looking for the mini version EXACTLY because I want to have as small screen as possible 😂 so the small screen isn't really an issue here.
Same Here Lol
Thanks for sharing, it’s very helpful.
Welcome 😁
Thank you, Waiting for ipad 2019+Affinity Designer review.
Can’t wait to draw
2020 - I just bought this device. So I can see how someone uses it and how it works. I like the review so far. But I didn't buy the pencil because it's too expensive. I'm hoping the alt. pencil that I bought on Amazon works ok.
Not all third party stylus have pressure sensitivity
@@teohyc and I'm really glad I've found one that works 😊. And it was under $20
@@mystlady85 what kind?
Thanks for another very good review. Perfect pace, tone, volume and demonstration. Question: Have you done the same with the 2017 10.5 iPad Pro? The price has dropped significantly now (599 Euros) but obviously the big difference is the chip. I have an iPad Air 2 that I bought in 2014 and it’s still great but it *is* 5 years old and it still gets all updates. I’m not an artist but it might be fun to start experimenting with drawing. What are your thoughts on 10.5 iPad Pro vs. iPad Air 3 (or maybe even 2018 iPad Pro 11”)? Very interested to know. Great job, as you can see from all the other comments too. Keep em coming! :)
I’d recomend you getting the 2017 10.5 iPad Pro! Promotion, four speakers, laminated display... and the size it’s just perfect!
.thanks for your ipad mini 5 and apple pencil gen 1 review..
Good review!
Super job across ALL the reviews! Thank you! I just wanted to know how many layers are possible with A4 at 600 dpi. Thanks!
!
7 layers
This video was very helpful! In the future can you speak to how it feels to take notes on the mini with the apple pencil. Handwriting with the Notes App or Handwriting within OneNote.
omg that tapping sound while drawing is hellannoying I could smash it with a hammer....
Can you place your hand on the screen while you write notes or something? Or can only the Apple Pencil touch the screen ?
Let's go to buy the iPad mini
really wanted one but I have to wait to cause my money not enough yet 😂
Hahahaha same.
Another excellent review. I'm interested to know if you prefer drawing on iPads or on drawing displays like XP-Pen / Cintiq. Which drawing experience do you like best?
They sort of have the same performance. If I'm indoors I'll use pen displays. For outdoors, the iPad
this was helpful thank you
i would really like to buy this but it's way too expensive for me.. plus i am trying to save money for a phone since one year now ..buying this means no phone for the next 2 years :(
Sir do you recommend this to someone who is not a professional artist but someone who just tries to sketch some ideas/concepts and taking notes?
Yes, it a very good tablet even for general purpose use.
Great review, Teoh! It's an interesting product, but II can see how it might be possible to lose perspective of a canvas through such a small viewport. Worth looking at though!
Thanks for this great review! What is your favorite ipad for drawing on the train?
9.7 or 10.5 is good
Great review.
I wish it supported the gen 2 Pencil
I've seen your surface go review as well, good job on both. How much more capable and precise you feel the ipad mini is than the surface go?
Apple Pencil is more accurate. Reason to get Surface Go is for Windows and the software you want to run on it.
Great Review
Thank you for sharing information. Its really helpful.
Is iPad mini 2019 comfortable for notes taking ????
It's good if you set it on a table when writing. If you are standing and writing, it's not as easy because the writing hand has no easy place to rest on
@@teohyc thank you so much for helping.
I love your Videos!♥
I Wish I Have an iPad too😞
I really want an ipad and Apple Pencil but my parents will only buy it if I get good grades in my tests. Pray for me!
You got this!!!!
Hey nice review but do you think it's too small ? im debating whether to buy the ipad 8th gen or the ipad mini 5. Also is the non laminated display bothersome ?
I find it a bit small. iPad 8 is the better choice. Non laminated screen is alright.
I can't afford one rn but I hope in a few months Im going to be able to
Awesome video, as always! Btw, would you recommend a good tablet for handwriting/working-on-papers/editing pdf.? I thought on something between the iPad 9.7 and the s4, but I'm not into wasting and if there's something cheaper that gets the service done, I would be glad to know. Thanks! 😁
iPad is better for drawing, everything else the Samsung is pretty evenly matched. iPad 9.7 is significantly cheaper and that alone will get my recommendation. You can get the 128GB model, Apple Pencil and it is still cheaper than Tab S4
Great review! Will affinity photo and affinity designer work on the new iPad with Pencil support cause mini 4 the apps aren’t supported due to its screen size i want to make sure if it’s supported on the new Mini.
*_Thanks Teoh_*
I’m thinking about getting a new iPad to use for digital art and to take notes on. What storage space do you think would be best for that?
I just want something I can lay in my bed and use instead of having to get on my XP Pen tablet every time.
Me too I'm wondering about the size of mini. I have a kindle fire hd 8. I'm looking into the iPad 6 th gen but the tapping sound might but me.
I love the size of my air but thanks still uwu
Which one do you recommend for 'budget drawing' ipads? Is ipad6(2018) still a viable option after these 2 released?
The budget iPad 6 is significantly cheaper and a more affordable way for people to get into digital drawing. If you have more budget, the Mini 5 and Air 3 are better because of the laminated screen.
Look at it this way, for a difference of less than $100, you're pretty much getting Pro specs on your Mini. Better front camera, better display, better processor as well, all for under $100 difference. That's a lot of value for money for considering you sometimes pay close to $200 just for a bump up in your memory. If you currently have an iPad, maybe this might not be an option seeing as you already spent roughly the same amount of money on the one you currently have, however if this is going to be your first one, you might as well add that under $100 difference and go for the big boy Mini. It's the decision I've decided to make. 😊
I am really curious what iPad mini 6 will bring... I hope usb-C and Apple Pencil 2.
This is what i needed thnx
Is it still worth to buy now in 2022?
What software are you using?! Great Video :)

Does the apple pen 2 work on the ipad mini? from what i read it only works with the first generation pen
Apple Pencil 2 only works with iPad Pro 2018
I have this same ipad and a 1 generation pen, but it doesn't work. Can you help me?
