The Julia story blew me away Craziest thing I've heard since the clam chowder on the titanic set Never understood people's attraction to her or her acting abilities Great job on the video Can't believe I I watched the entire thing And you'd have a good laugh if you could actually see me . Again great presentation
Do you mind to make a video breakdown about the entire Smallville cast. They kind of come off as the same levels of problematic behavior and a-holery than The 70's Show cast, lastly.
I lived in LA from Jan 2008 - Jan 2011. Cory and I attended the same acting studio, and a group of us hit it off and hung out a good bit after class, going out for food and drinks. Cory really was a truly down-to-earth, come as you are, good person. He drove me home one night, cant remember why, but it was out of his way and he didn't hesitate to offer. He told me more about his story then. Absolutely heartbreaking. I'll never forget the easy energy he had. He really was trying to stay clean. RIP.
Thank you for sharing, that's a sweet story. Honestly I have never heard a bad word about Cory, which is next to impossible in Hollywood! Thanks for watching!
So sorry for your loss. I only knew him through Glee, and I cried when I heard of it. I can only imagine how hard it would have been to lose him when you knew him IRL. Thanks for sharing your story so more of us could know him better.
I always felt like he was a total sweetheart. From all the interviews and how he interacted with fans, he was definitely just a goofy guy who seemed genuine. It's upsetting to know he battled substance for so many years, but I idolized him, and dreamed of meeting him one day. But it'll never happen, so I'll just be happy to know the guy was truly a wonderful person. And for the records: he's way too good for Lea lol. She's a monster.
yeah, when I first heard that from a documentary I found (Hulu?) I was 7 months pregnant with my son at the time, and I couldn't stop crying. I can only imagine her last thoughts hoping her son would be saved from the boat
@@Roll4ChaosI was 8 months pregnant when the news broke out that she was missing! I was exactly the same way. The moment I saw that news story, I got chills down my spine. I knew she was dead. And to me, drowning is one of the most terrifying ways to go. It haunts me
did she not bring her son to her suicide attempt? leaving him abandoned in a boat in water afterwards? after a lifetime of domestic abuse towards the child's father? I will never understand the glorification of her.
@@ashriihi it was determined to not be suicide. At least not officially. Nothing with her behavior before her death shows she was suicidal. And if her ex had such animosity against her and there was the abuse you mention it would have come out and he wouldn't be doing what he did to preserve her memory for their child.
Absolutely ridiculous. (And isn’t Darren straight in real life? He is (or was) married to a woman). Crazy fans need to be held accountable for such threatening behaviour.
@@HRHDMKYT well dating or marrying someone of the opposite sex doesn't automatically mean straight. bisexuality is still a thing. but regardless its weird and gross to ship real people 💀
I worked on the pilot of Glee and can confirm that Corey was the absolute best. Such a sweet little angel. He had a terrible tribal tattoo on his upper arm and when I asked him about it, he said "17 and drunk makes for bad choices."
That's so cool you worked on the pilot, thank you for sharing. I've never heard a bad word about Cory, which is unusual in every day life, but in Hollywood it's virtually unheard of. Thanks again, & for watching!
I remember seeing that tattoo in HYBRID and it being “blurred” during the pilot and scenes where he was sleeveless. I knew it was a dumb tattoo but for him it was sort of cute.
Melissa Benoist's video gave my sister the courage/validation to leave her abusive husband. She later told me that the abuse Melissa explained in her video sounded almost exactly the same as hers that she couldn't excuse it away anymore. I never watched Glee but I became a fan of Melissa Benoist for speaking out and helping my sister (and probably others)!
That's awful your sister went through that. I'm glad she got herself out. I watched some of Supergirl and that's how I became aware of Melissa. She's great in Whiplash too. But yeah this took guts and I think her speaking out is heroic as it gets. Some people are just monsters unfortunately.
Who would have thought a teen drama about sex, pregnancy, death, suicide, gays being tormented, abortion, trans kids, extreme bullying, narcissism, extreme competition, neurotic mental disorders, physical disabilities, drug abuse, teachers preying on kids, and actors & actresses singing silly covers of other people's songs while getting worshipped ... would end with the underage audience growing up to realize what a smorgasbord of trainwreck trauma this thing turned out to be hiding behind cute dance numbers? The show wasn't designed to uplift the audience, it was designed to appeal to literally everyone. Sure, it produces sales and gives children a false sense of being adult and knowing about the world - but the truth is that no human being should be ingesting the problems of the entire human species in short-story form. They chose hyper-representation to get more eyeballs for $$$ instead of healthy quality content designed to appeal to a niche audience for a more balanced, deeper storyline; this obsession with "appealing to every misery known to man" has resulted in crazed fans with nothing in common competing to be noticed by the stars, severe season-long looming storylines of dark looming nightmarish drama, and celebrity exploitation.
First: MVP. Secondly, I knew Cory for like 10 years before Glee. He was exactly as charming and funny as he comes across. We (his friends from back then) loved Cory and were so happy he saw success. Cory had inner demons he fought basically from the day he was born. He could be terrible to the people in his life but he was so warm and genuine (when sober) that it was difficult to stay mad. Whether he became famous or not, I would still think about him all the time. Your profile on him was kind and captured a lost about who he was. I’m sure this will get buried, but know that this sort of thing is nice to watch for those of us who knew him.
I met Cory a month? or so before his death. I was working in Beverly Hills at the time and had some down time and was studying for my bio exam. I’m used to seeing celebrities by this time. Someone approached my desk to valet their ticket and my jaw dropped seeing it was HIM. I was more shocked because the last I heard of him he was in rehab. I was shaking and had the courage to ask to take a photo with him. He politely declined and explained the press does not know he is out of the rehab facility and didn’t want them knowing he was in LA. But until his car was brought around he offered to have a conversation with me and proceeded to ask me about my studies, what I wanted to do after college, etc. His car arrived and we wrapped up our convo and that’s when I noticed Lea was waiting for him. I can tell she was annoyed. She was giving him a look with her arms crossed scoffed and went straight to the car without speaking to anyone. I was kind of taken aback and he told me “sorry about that”. I shrugged it off and he thanked me for having a conversation with him. His kindness just blew me away. Then 5 minutes later Billy Crystal threw his ticket at me lol so a complete 180 😅😂
Thanks for sharing your story, a couple of people have shared stories about Cory & I know some people who worked with him, I’ve heard nothing but wonderful things, seemed like such a great guy.
I know people say “oh my gosh how can someone so amazing like Corey be with someone like Lea?” But I really have to wonder, what must it be like for someone like her to be with someone like him?? What kind of dynamic IS that?
@@MegCazalet I had a friend who's girlfriend (kinda Michelle vibes without the monstrous ambition for fame) broke up with him because he was "too good" of a boyfriend, and it basically made her resentful over time that he was a better person, I guess? If Corey had lived, I wonder how that relationship might have played out
I don’t think there’s a curse, but as you said, working on the show was a massive physical and mental strain. The sudden fame was overwhelming, and the lack of support or care for their well-being left the young cast (except Lea, who seems to thrive in chaos) in a state of exhaustion that left them vulnerable in so many ways. Rest in Peace Cory and Naya ❤
I’m repeating myself - why no Managers? Actors at many levels of fame have Managers helping them. Also WHY didn’t the Producers step in? How much money is enough?
I think the idea of the curse comes from the fact a number of the young actors (they actually weren't THAT young but played high schoolers) have died. The rest of it (DV, drug abuse, abuses of power, diva behavior etc) sadly seems par for the course for a Hollywood production (see Quiet on Set).
I found out recently that Damian McGinty, who played the Irish exchange student Rory in season 3, left the show because he hated the dynamic of it. He got a couple of spotlight moments, but most of the time, the show writers just threw him in the background. "There was a lot of just sitting in the choir room" he'd said in an interview. McGinty had already had a successful career by that point as he was part of the Irish musical group Celtic Thunder, so he felt severely undervalued and underutilized on the series and did not want to go through another season of that kind of treatment. He didn't care about the money like a lot of the crew members did, he just enjoyed music and performing and he didn't feel like his contributions were appreciated on the show. He was one of four people who'd gotten the chance to be on "Glee" via a reality show called The Glee Project, and Damian has said that he felt that show severely "over-prepared" him for what was going to end up just being an extra spot in the background ntm the show threw like literally every Irish stereotype you could think of at him while in front of the camera
I loved him in glee!always thought he was underused! They kept pushing alex newell, who was fine at first but incredibly annoying as the show went on, i ended up skipping their scenes
He wasn't a very good actor, so he definitely should stick to music and a hope he still does. I'm just stating a fact, not trying to be mean. I liked him as a singer and when I saw him on Glee I thought his talent was wasted there. To be fair, Blake Jenner also isn't a good actor. He won the Glee Project because he was handsome and a decent singer.
I am glad you posted this, I am a fan of Celtic Thunder and I knew Damien was in the group. I also thought they really wasted the opportunity to show case his talent and also the other contestant on Glee Project I can't remember his name but he was so good looking and a talented singer, he had long hair in dreads and the story line they wrote for him was so ridiculous and like Damien they barely ever used him. That show did miss the mark as far as show casing the talent they had in their cast.
@@SupercaliFreyalistic I don't think you have to blame Alex for what the writers did to another actor. Especially one that came into the show during s3 (while Alex had a cameo that season they didn't join until s4). The show threw stereotypes at a lot of cast and mainly at the minorities. I agree he was underused, but he at least was able to leave since he joined because of a 3rd party show.
Corey was, absolutely, a genuinely nice guy. I met him when he was 18 before all of this stuff. He hung around with a bit of a rough crowd and these tough boys would literally take care of him. They were his family more than anyone else, sadly. Then, when I saw him on Glee it was kind of funny because he was never 'acting'. He was being Corey, but on TV. However, as an extremely sweet and emotionally tender person who had had such a rough upbringing...I was not surprised that he didn't make it. I mean, even without the pressure of being a global star, I feel that it would have been hard for him to have a long and happy life.
I'll just get this out of the way now. I am a forty year old man, decorated combat veteran, husband of 20+ years, and father of three daughters. My wife and kids have never actually watched the show, but I have seen every episode at least three times, and I have watched The Glee Project, start to finish, twice. Corey always seemed like someone with whom I would enjoy hanging out. Glee was a bright spot while I was going through a hard time trying to return to normal life after spending a year in Iraq. Because of that, Corey's death actually affected me similarly to the deaths of my friends who were also in the Army. I have lost four military friends to suicide. Corey's death wasn't a suicide (I hope), but it fits into the same categories of unexpected and meaningless. No one is ever truly alone. ASK FOR HELP. Sorry. God bless you all.
Imagine being Julia Robert’s and having everything you could ever want, and taking your production assistant sisters estate away from her fiancé. That is gross.
The Robert’s are terrible people. Emma Robert is a domestic abuser of the gorgeous Evan Peters (who is a sweetheart and really went though a lot of awful crap at her hands)
@@ghostguru9156 I’ve always gotten bad vibes from her but I wasn’t sure if it was cuz I was watching AHS and felt sketchy or if it was just her. I could never put my finger on it. Now I know.
100% it was to get hold of any evidence that could damage Julia’s squeaky clean image. If so it is almost more disgusting imo that genuine mementos valuable to the fiancé were just collateral for her
As someone who is a little older and lived through a time when you had to wait each week to watch an episode, I’ve never heard it referred to the way she did. Being able to binge now is great but having to wait and watch everything with your friends once a week was a feeling you can’t explain! We had so much fun.
same!!! i joined tumblr just so i could join in on the glee discourse! it was such a rush liveblogging the show and watching my dash fill up with gif edits of the episode, almost instantly after the episode ended. i haven’t witnessed to that level of fandom culture since.
Wasn't a fan of GLEE but it, Pretty Little Liars, Secret Life of the American Teenage (that was the wave we were on) and others....getting together to watch or talk to friends RIGHT after the episodes was a "you just had to be there" type experience. It still exists in other forms these days, but it was a memory-creating EXPERIENCE that can never be taken away~
As someone who is a recovering opiate addict. I can relate to cory so much. For some reason the nicest kind people get sucked into opiates. Its almost like we put other people needs in front of our own and deal with our own. They build up and opiates just take all that away. Very scary drugs. If you are ever on them please be aware of what they can do to you. They are so hard to quit. Quitting uaually won't kill you but you will wish you were dead. Please get medical supervison. Sending anyone struggling today so much love. Wonderful deep dive. ❤
Nayas rendition of If I Die Young for Cory hurts so much more whenever i hear it for 3 reasons. Its still about Cory She sadly also died young She drowned in a lake so the line "sink me in a river" gives me goosebumps
i wish there was a compilation of " on tv im the bad guy but in real life im the worst guy" moments right before victim impact statements being read in court
I hope that Cory and Naya rest easy, knowing that they changed the lives of many people during their time on Glee. Cory's memorial episode was already sad enough, but now it's even worse when Naya sings "when I die young".
Meh out of the main cast he was probably the least famous/popular one, even when Glee was at its peak, his popularity tanked after season 3 when he barely appeared in the show, and when Glee ended he was a nobody compared to the other cast members; but I agree that its ridiculous when people think someone gets a lenient sentence cause they have information and not because of privilege.
@@debbiehoyt9018 That's a myth. Most plea deals aren't what Dick Wolf would have you believe. "Crime shows" exist to push a simple, digestible narrative, like everything else on TV.
Met Cory twice at Glee live events and he was always so super sweet. First time I had a Team Finn shirt and he seemed so excited and goes to grab my arm asking if he could sign it. I had that up as a little memorial when he passed. Second time I met him, I was on some thermogenic pill and was super awake. He seemed out of it and me being nervous and hyper at the same time , slammed my hands on the table and said 'Hey! '. That woke him up and I would feel insanely regretful about it ever since. He was always such a sweet guy and just normal. It kills me that he fell back into such an awful thing especially since I think he could've done so many amazing things.
I’m ashamed to admit that I originally enjoyed Glee but then it turned into a hate watch and “well I have to finish this damn show now” stubbornness. But what really kept me there was Santana and Brittany. My heart still breaks for Naya (and her son, given the nature of her passing) ❤ Out of all the Glee songs, the only ones I still listen to are sung by Naya because she had such a presence. (With the exception of the unholy trinity’s version of Toxic since it’s very gay and I love it lol).
I remember when Melissa posted that video about Blake. It was prompted by a lot of people accusing her of cheating on Blake. That Chris was homewrecker, that she was just falling for whatever guy she was currently working with and that she was breaking poor Blake's heart. And then she revealed what really happened to break her first marriage and the opinion shifted but I still think it sucked she was forced to do this by all this public harassment. We usually don't really know what really happens in the private lives of celebrities and forcing them to explain why their marriages fail or what exactly their attractions are for public judgment is so messed up.
I remember it was during the (DC) Crisis hype when that happened, so it was pretty shocking to find out about that stuff, and now it's sad to see Melissa being put in that situation.
I had a classmate back in high school that was dangerously obsessed with Chris Colfer. Like, he would stalk him/go on vacations just to stalk him, try to get his contact info and address, show up to every VIP event, etc. It was really creepy. Also I just really don't like Lea Michele as a human 😂
I was a HUGE Gleek when it first came out. Kurt Hummell was representation that I had never seen before and desperately needed at that age. But yeah as an adult looking back, that show clearly had SO MANY PROBLEMS. Thanks for the video!!
Me too! Kurt was the first openly gay character I had ever seen and that’s when I started to realize that I wasn’t abnormal and that there were many people like me. It also helped a lot that i actually look a bit like Chris Colfer but Latino hahaha
Narcissistic people always turn the tables on their victims and try to play the victim while being the abuser. I've been through it, luckily without the physical abuse but everything else, emotional, psychological and financial abuse. I'm so glad she got out.
My mom was born, raised and lived in LA, lived in the party scene and eventually in her career, ended up in some small corner of the Hollywood where she met A-listers (just coming through type of thing.) I remember watching Julia Roberts films when I was young and my mom would never fail to mention how terrible of a person she thought Roberts was. I had to watch them without her around to enjoy the movies lol! Apparently Gary Oldman is a real nice dude, though.
Everyone in my life knew I was gay before I did. LITERALLY EVERYONE it was actually quite funny 🤭 They still all waited for me. NO ONE deserves to be outed. No matter what.
I'm straight but it always makes me angry when other people force gay people out of closet saying they have to "represent". No. That's someone else's life and they have no right to force that on another person. Reminds me of when Ian McKellen outed Lee Pace during The Hobbit promos. Lee Pace had said previously that he is a private person. He wishes for people to appreciate his work but wants his personal life separate from his work and kept to himself. Ian had absolutely no right to do that to Lee. And to Lee's credit, he never responded to the outing, he continued to keep his private life private as he said he wants to do.
@@mish375I do find it annoying when people do that with the LGBT community. They most likely don't have any malicious intentions behind it, but sometimes I feel like they have a bit of an unhealthy obessession with the LGBT commnuity and constantly want to discuss their sexuality. Like, they're human and we should treat them as such.
@@TheFLAMEXD I agree. It comes across as the extreme types wanting to make their orientation their entire personality, and that's dehumanizing to the person they out. That should be the other person's business and not anyone else's. I think Lee handled it maturely by not responding, so there wasn't a huge amount of attention paid towards it. But he deserves to live his life privately as he's expressed. And if he wants to discuss it, that should only be when he chooses, not when someone else does.
Happened to me (straight) and a buddy from primary school, we knew he was gay pretty much from the get go and we chose not to do jokes about it. When he told my best friend and I that he was gay we were like "we know, we had the feeling about it for years and we fully support you" at like 13-14 years lol I miss them a lot.
Yeah I remember hearing about this situation a few months back and wondering how such relentless behaviour after this poor woman’s passing went under the public radar. I never ever thought she came off as a nice woman, Emma Roberts either. Very entitled.
I have no idea why, I just know Emma sucks. I can’t put my finger on why I feel that way, and I’ll admit I’ve watched a lot of things with her in it, she just has a vibe.
@@casey5683 I used to work at the West La party city during the scream queens airing a costumer came in alluding that quite a few of the girls were unpleasant Emma being one of them
Darren Chris did have a cult following on UA-cam before Glee due to his work at UofM in StarKids and their production of "Harry Potter the Musical." That production took place just as UA-cam was in it's infancy and you could only post 10-minute videos.
@@jazzzz9992it's funny you say that because I became a big fan of starkid after it being referenced on glee 😂😂😂 (which I mainly just watched for grant Gustin lol)
44:50 When Chris explains what was said to him regarding the purposeful exposure of his sexuality to the public “I deserved it. I knew what I signed up for. That It was obvious, so therefore I had no reason to be upset about it.” Saddened and angers me. Many heterosexual actors play homosexual characters. Chris signed up to portray Kurt in Glee, a fictional character. That character was never designed to be a self portrayal and had nothing to do with Chris as a person, his personal life or preferences. So he had every right to have his sexuality remain private until he was ready to be public with it. He had the right to be upset and that wasn’t what he signed up for. They treated a teenager extremely poorly, with such disrespect and no idea the risks involved in publicly outing a person who isn’t ready (especially when they’re that famous and young). They should be ashamed of themselves!!
I’m just in absolute tears listening to Corey’s story. My mother died of a heroin overdose after being in jail for 45 days. Very similar story and it’s just absolutely tragic what drugs do to people and families.
Interesting to see Lea Michele sitting next to Ellen DeGeneres knowing they were two of the meanest people in Hollywood, at least of those we know about. Could you imagine them having to work together for any length of time?!
Isn’t it weird that Cory Monteith - universally discussed in a positive light, said to be so laid back, loving, and giving - was so deeply drawn to the nightmare ball of ego that is Lea Michelle.
Lea isn't the nightmare people think she is. If she was she wouldn't have so many friends and she wouldn't have a husband and she wouldn't have been with Cory. As someone who knows Lea very well, people have her all wrong.
@@essy1ableI think a lot of people just don’t like Lea because of Rachel and getting a lot of the solos and being a “diva”. She had the best voice by far and was the main character so she deserved all the solos she got.
She only appeared in 5 episodes, but I wanna mention Robin Trocki, who played Sue's sister Jean! the reason she was killed off during season 2 wasn't for any malicious reason. It was because Robin was developing Alzheimer's and so it was a lot more difficult for her to work. But both she and Lauren Potter (who played Becky) were really great representation for people with Down's and they both had a lot of nice things to say about their experiences on Glee and specifically about working with Jane Lynch, which is really nice. Sue's baby on the show, Robin, was named after Robin Trocki as a way to honor her contribution to the show. And even when her Alzheimer's was making it more and more difficult to remember things, she always remembered Glee and remembered Jane Lynch. 🥹 She died at the end of 2019 from Alzheimer's, but she was a great actress and a great person.
I hated Becky. She was so mean and sexualized is a creepy doesn't care about the consent of other people way. She started off with so much potential and it feels like they wasted it on making her the butt of the joke. Like the joke was laugh because who would ever find her good enough to date
I went on a studio tour and saw the glee cast walking, they looked over at my family and I and kept talking (totally fine!) but Cory smiled so wide and waved at little kid me and I’ll never forget how sweet he was!
MVP As a choir nerd, growing up in a very competitive region of North Texas, I loved Glee! It was great to watch a quality “mini-“ musical each week. Being blessed to have been a part of choir and “show choir” in high school gave me a substantial scholarship for college. As a math teacher/secondary math instructional specialist (when I was able to work), it was with great conviction that I fought to keep fine arts in our public schools in Texas. Not everyone is going to use mathematics in their careers, but we start giving standardized tests on math in 3rd grade in Texas. I have seen 8 year olds scared (and maybe scarred) by the pressure placed on them to pass. The gift of an arts education allows students to see that they can have multiple opportunities for learning success and strengths. I felt that Glee focused a light on how finding one’s own voice can help through the teenage years. I really appreciate you taking the time to share the research about the show. While I had heard some of these, I most certainly didn’t know all. Sending ❤ and best wishes from Texas!
Thank you so much for watching & for sharing your story! Greatly appreciated & I’m so glad Glee & being part of choir in high school gave you so much, add a scholarship on top & wow, that’s awesome! Thanks again for watching & your kind words ☺️💜
To your point, Lea Michelle did reach superstardom to some degree. She went on to star in Broadway's Funny Girl last year, which was a HUGE deal in theater. There was so much drama with that story, not directly Lea's fault, but drama surrounding her casting nonetheless. It was juicy.
Her career would be so much bigger if not for her reputation. Before the truth came out many suspected because it was weird that as talented as she was she wasn’t getting jobs. They kind of gave her the Funny Girl as a last resort… also Jenna has a Tony and Amber has the British equivalent. If Lea Michelle had a better reputation she would as well.
@@arianna5270 You're definitely right about that. But I had a different impression of Funny Girl. They essentially pushed Beanie Feldstein out early to bring in Lea. The show went from being dangerously close to closing to becoming a success because of Lea. The consensus in the theater world was that despite her problematic reputation, she's so talented that all's forgotten. Talk about star power. Single handedly saving a show despite being despised by everyone!
@@mimimirie She would do way better if she werent among the apparently hardest to work with people in the biz. @@mimimirie If she didn’t have the reputation she does she would have been cast in Funny Girl originally. The only reason she wasn’t was her reputation. I think that she’s on her best behavior now and this could be the beginning of a new era for her. I do think Broadway will be her best bet because there are more Broadway fans willing to forgive her behavior because of her talent.
I was in 9th or 10th grade when a classmate suggested I watch it. I was hesitant at first but gave in and quickly fell in love with it. I remember how much I loved the characters and all the singing, but I really only watched the show not any interviews or anything. I still remember hearing about Cory’s death and being devastated because he was the reason I stayed. I saw it on twitter so I didn’t believe it at first since it was twitter, then I heard it on the news and it sank in. He seemed like such a good guy, I wish I knew him tbh. It was a big part of my hs life and I remember waiting for the new episodes and talking about it with my friends. Glee will always hold a special place in my heart because of that.
at the time i found it odd they took so long to do that episode, or any memorial in the show really. i guess i thought everyone was still reeling ‘but the show must go on’. looking back it feels a little dirty
@@MM-bn5yc the quarterback aired october 2013, only four months after cory passed in july 2013. that's a perfectly reasonable amount of time and i imagine they were going back and forth on what to do for it for a little while and whether the cast and hell, even the writers, would be up for it.
I didn't follow the show at the time, but seeing the emotions in that episode, i could tell it wasn't acting. That must have been so emotionally taxing for the cast and crew who worked with him and loved him. Asking them to do it immediately in the start of the grieving process would be cruel. They still probably filmed within 2-3 months after, and i wonder if everyone was emotionally prepared for that. The episode was beautiful and necessary, imo, but i would put the needs of those who were with him 17 hours a day over the fans who needed the closure. 4 months to air seems reasonable.
I was a nurse in Chicago. I once had a patient you brought up in this piece. She absolutely was a terrible person. This was between 2005-2008. She didn't like that she wasn't special. There is a new movie with her in it that looked great until I realized she was the star. From the trailor, she fits the character.
Disgraceful. There is no reason for such antics. With so much streaming creating a new star every week it seems, these people don’t realize it’s gonna be 3 minutes, not 15.
Honestly I'm so happy for Melissa's career. Turning out to be one of the most successful cast members, she has a new show on HBO Max (or whatever is called now) which is no small deal; and also with a nice personal life. I'm glad she healed and in someway helped other women by telling her story to the whole world

As someone with PTSD and other issues from my ex who was very violent and manipulative (and definitely a sociopath & narcissist) I was really frustrated with the whole Johnny Depp and Amber Heard situation - people acting like Johnny was on even playing field and just as much as an abuser. People would say they were both bad. No. It's called reactive abuse. People hurt you so much that they push you to hurt them back. Say awful things to them - I remember the feeling of always trying to get back at my ex and make him feel an ounce of pain he caused me but it never worked, he acted like I was an ant and he was a towering giant.
@@susanebel7288 I completely understand your point, but she made excuses about her actions Blake did not, now I don’t believe either should have and just because I say Blake owned his actions dosnt mean I’m on his side. I’m on the side of common sense and being a smart person. I feel for you but what happened to you isn’t the same of Blake and melissa
Chris’s first book came out near the shows end and I was in the fifth grade, his first series “the land of stories” is so well written and some of my favorites from childhood. I just say that he has two other series that even though as a grown adult now, I think I have to go back and read for nostalgia stake. I’m so happy to see how successful he’s become especially since as a kid watching glee, I had no idea what happened behind the scenes like him being brutally harassed.
Not naming names but I did some lessons with a person who dealt with Lea Michele as a child and they also confirmed she was a nightmare. It killed me as I adored her for looking similar to me and me feeling very similar to Rachel Berry back in my high school chorus days. And they told my this while Glee was still on and well before people started coming out.
Ryan Murphy is notorious for hiring the same actors on his different shows - I have not seen the Glee cast showing up in his current projects -but I could be wrong !
Lea is not a nightmare. Can she be a bit of a diva? Yes. But she's not a bad person. I know her very well and she's kind and generous and a very loving person. The perception that people have of her is so wrong. Truly it is.
@@essy1able You know her? Cool! I always get angry when people who doesn’t even know her accuse her of such horrible things, like that she was a HORRIBLE person & was responsible for Corey’s death for example 😢
I really looking up to Cory when i was a kid. I grew up with a abusive mom and a non-existent dad and queer in a mormon community. All of the characters felt personal to me but there was something about how kind and supportive Cory was as Finn but also the fan stories i heard about him irl. He made me want to be that kind of person too and when I was a kid it was my dream to get to meet him at least once. Unfortunately his tragic death took him away too soon, it was the first time i felt real grief over a death. I remember the shock when i heard the news and locked myself in the shower and cried for hours.
I can confirm how that going to rehab and getting sober then relapsing is an easy way to OD unfortunately...i am 12 years clean and that was the exact same way i almost died 15 years ago...its tragic because us opiate users always end up suffering in silence. 💔
Absolutely agree about the suffering in silence. I’m so sorry to hear about what happened to you 15 years ago, that must have been extremely scary. Congrats on your 12 years of sobriety! That is absolutely amazing, you should be really proud of yourself 💪🏻💜
I did, too. My fave thing about it, though, was my roommates coming to me about an episode, going on about this great song they’d never heard and how they think I’d love it, and it would be a well known musical theatre song 😅 Loved that those songs got some pop culture coverage
It was the first show to break my heart cause I was OBSESSED and then the writing got... really bad. It turned quite drastically. So sad. I'm still sad about it.
There is a UA-camr that does a play by play of the pilot episode and this show was and always be cringy and woke. However,I do like a lot of the singers and I can’t stop listening to the insane amount of drama and pathos behind the scenes.
1:59 - Mark Salling saying, "Yeeeah, on the show, I'm a bad guy, but in real life, Im the worst guy." I REMEMBER THIS!!! And squealed when I first heard it. After just watching it--and not having watched it since he first said it--I got chills. 😰🤢 Especially when he looked into the camera. When a person shows you (in this case, TELLS you) who they are...believe them!!
I loved Glee. I was a loyal watcher until Cory died. His death just broke my heart. As you pointed out, he seemed so genuine, sweet, and down to earth - it felt like a huge loss. I have heard that Lea Michelle was not good to him, which doesn't surprise me given what I know about her. Thank you so much for the time and effort you put into this video (as you do all of your videos).
i think it is unfair to say Lea wasn't "good to him" when even Naya, one of Cory's closest friends and someone who couldn't stand Lea, talked about the positive influence she had on Cory. As much as a diva and difficult person she is, no one deserves to get blamed for an addict's choices (I really don't want to talk about Cory as just an addict cause he was more than that but this is the only way I can get my point across), if you were a fan of Glee back then you'd know about the harassment Lea got after his death, blaming her for it and calling her a murderer and the worst girlfriend (reminiscent to how Ariana Grande got treated after Mac Miller's passing), and as someone who has had to "deal" with a loved one who became an addict it's so frustrating to see all the blame being put on someone else when we do everything that is in our hands to help them, when no one knows about the tiredness and hopelessness and the strong facade we have to put for them while we see our close ones slowly succumb to their monsters. Sorry for the long comment but this got me pretty irked.
I don't know if bigger, but it has more direct death than That 70's Show, that's actually a fact. Glee had less grooming/SA but has more death tied to it (your main star being racist and a spoiled brat irl doesn't help), but That 70's had the exact opposite, more grooming/SA and also a cult involved (and an umproblematic main star, both of what Lea is offscreen he was onscreen only lol).
When I was 14 and just started high school, I remember when the premiere of the Pilot came on TV. When Don’t Stop Believin’ came on screen, it’s a moment I will remember forever, I was filled with excitement. I was like 🤯 lol. I just happened to be a theatre nerd and in A Capella choir, all my friends were in our show choir (Glee club), I grew up in Columbus Ohio and the show was set in Lima Ohio so for me, this show was like watching my life happen on screen. It was SO special to me. When they graduated on screen in 2012, I graduated with them the same year; I literally grew up with the characters on the show. When Cory passed in 2013, it seemed like a death of a family member to me. And then the only time I rewatched the entire series, was in 2020, which I had forgotten at the time of rewatching that it happened to be the very same year of the very last episode where they filmed Mr Scheuster following up on his students, and then right after that Naya died. (It’s also crazy they set that flash forward scene 🎬 to be set in 2020 because Covid hit that year and no one was living the way they had the world set up in Glee). It was honestly, so crazy how things lined up like that, and it felt like when Naya passed, knowing how close she was with Cory, it felt like my childhood died. Also I believe it to be no coincidence but instead a spiritual connection that Naya’s body was found on Cory’s passing anniversary date. It’s been so hard actually to hear that there is a curse on this show. Also one of my favorite songs from Glee was Take My Breath Away performed by Santana and Quinn Fabray. So to know what happened to Naya, that song is very haunting. And the fact that all of these tragic things happened to so many others on that show is so scary and sad. I know strongly now that Celebrity is a curse, and Hollywood needs to die. It is not healthy for anyone to be in that lifestyle.
After seeing your breakdown of the That 70s Show and now this video on Glee, I'm SO excited to see what you do next! There's a lot of little things things you mention that I remember hearing in a passerby way over the years, like the Glee cast member drowning or Hyde's actor getting kicked off The Ranch, so seeing someone break down the greater context is a wonderful listen for me. Thanks for all your hard work researching this stuff for entertainment & education ♡
Seeing the Blake news as someone who was a huge The Glee Project fan is so insane what ???? I didn't even know any of this I feel so sad for Melissa omg
Melissa abused Blake too, don't get a sexist pov now. Blake had reportedly gone to the hospital for a broken nose by Melissa. Both abused each other and I dont condone it. But Blake was assaulted in the shower, like come on.
@@joandie1524 Have you been in an abusive relationship? Do you personally know someone who's talked to you in detail about what it's like? My ex abused me, physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. It's not about being sexist - it's about who has more power, who's the dominant one... Who's the ABUSER and the other one is REACTIVE to abuse. Girls can be abusers, everyone knows this. That wasn't the case in Melissa's situation. Nor is it in the *majority* of abusive relationships.
I was rooting for the blond girl in the wheelchair to win, I didn't want Blake to win and I was so annoyed he did. At the time, I didn't know why, I figured he was decent enough... Now, I just WISH even harder that he didn't get the role, he took it from someone much more deserving(in my eyes at least)

I loved Glee and I know about most of these scandals and tragedies but thank you for bringing everything to light. NGL I still listen to some of their renditions and watch the videos but they definitely hit differently now. Love your dedication as always 💜 MVP!!
I feel so bad for how these real people bore the brunt of the agony us kids that had no representation. They did not deserve it and we had no perspective or boundaries. It felt like They were not their own human people - they WERE us. And we didn’t know anything about giving ourselves respect or boundaries or space - so zero idea about what the stars had the right to. ❤ it is actually too much for any one person to bear. The first to represent a huge amount of humanity’s story is an enormous burden to bear.
I was in the glee fandom during its peak, specifically in the Kurt/Chris stan side of tumblr, and it was completely INSANE to me what the Crisscolfer shippers would do. The stalking and harassing of the actors and their respective partners, the misogyny towards Darren's girlfriend (the things they called her were SO heinous), the creepy analysis of every single moment they're together at some event. They also harassed and bullied people who disagreed with them, I could not count the amount of hate mail I had of people telling me to kms because I didn't ship them and openly told people to stop doing it lmao. It was so so much even for fans to live through and I cannot imagine the abuse Chris and Darren and their partners suffered. Listening to Chris open up about this on the podcast is heartbreaking. I wish people from that time would listen to that and reflect on what they did. When I got into 1D some time after that and the Larry shipping started I immediately got out of there because I did not want to live through the same shit again. To this day when I see people shipping real life persons it makes me sick to my stomach because of the things I've seen. On a lighter note I'm super happy that Chris got the success he deserved as a book writer. Even now it fills me with warmth when I see people go like "Oh this guy was on glee? I only know him as an author". I think this is the way Chris wants things to be
i know all this is connected to the way they portrayed Sue as a creepy klaine shipper, but maybe i just cant connect the dots? or im just delusional lmao. like. did they downplay the seriousness of what the shippers are doing? or what...
@@urd247 It was weird because they definitely were calling out all the creepy obsession of Crisscolfer/Klaine shippers, but in the end those people ended up taking it as a "Hey look Sue is just as much of a Klaine shipper as me! Haha she gets us! Such an icon" instead of "Hey that's actually very creepy! Maybe we should stop doing that", and at the end the show ended up having Klaine getting married even if it did not make any sense just to appease the Klaine/Crisscolfer fans; so for the show to call out their craziness but still rewarding them at the end with a nonsense storyline is just dumb.
This is such an incredible video. I never see any glee video essays mentioning Melissa and Bl@k3, and as a huge fan of Melissa, it’s so important to me that the fandom recognize what she went through. Both Melissa and her character received so much unwarranted hate, and I am here for people finally giving her story the attention it deserves. Love this and will definitely be returning to it whenever the glee itch in my brain needs a scratch 😂

i think that explaining away the tragedies that have surrounded glee as a curse is harmful because it takes away the focus on how we can hold those responsible accountable and try to prevent more tragedy in the future. saying that glee is cursed removes the blame from people who CHOSE to do awful and irresponsible things, and it takes away the drive to make changes in the industry.
Never watched glee BUT.....i need a deep dive to be playing while I'm cleaning my house ......so thank you for your service (long form content creators are the best!) 😄🙌🖤
The only strange thing I remember about her was she wasn’t present in the tribute episode to Cory. But I have never found that fair for people to speculate as to why ❤
I identify so much with Cory and his death really resonated with me. I stumbled into professional acting as a kid and did well and really loved to act. The thing is, I’m intensely private and introverted and I absolutely hated being recognised, approached, interviewed and asked for autographs. By the time I was close to the end of high school my agent wanted me to pursue acting full time and attend the country’s most prestigious performing arts institute. I had never liked the ‘fame’ aspect. My first role was in a very critically acclaimed film which meant I got attention and recognition right away, and I immediately hated it. There was never a time where I enjoyed being recognised or asked for autographs. I’m so glad I was mature enough as a teen to turn down my agent’s pressure to keep working and go to that institute and decided to pursue an academic career that was far more rewarding to me than acting. I knew even then that if I went down that path I would end up being miserable. With hindsight I’m 100% sure that had I gone down the path of attending that institute and continuing to act and found success, I’d have ended up like Cory. I would have been miserable and I can easily see myself having turned to some kind of substance abuse to cope with the fame and lack of privacy. I liked the first few seasons of Glee and his story hit me so hard because I felt strongly that it could have been me had I gone down a different path. I was also newly out when I made that choice to quit and had a girlfriend. Back then (not even that long ago, in the 2000s) being an LGBT actor was a huge hinderance to your career in terms of what roles you’d be considered for. I knew that being LGBT would have made all the issues I had with privacy even worse too, so that was an additional factor. I wish Cory had had the chance to realise acting probably wasn’t the right fit for him before he was thrown into the insanity of Glee. I’m so devastated for him that things ended the way they did. He seemed like a wonderful person by all accounts. Sometimes you can be incredibly gifted as an actor or other kind of performer but your personality is just not equipped for the ‘celebrity’ aspect of success in that industry. I think that a lot of incredibly talented people have died far too soon because they just weren’t compatible with the wealth and fame that accompanies success in certain performing arts. It’s okay to be talented and passionate about your art and choose not make it your career. It’s okay to walk away if it’s not making you happy.
MVP! No but for real, this is a very well researched and respectful coverage of some very tragic and dark stories. Thank you for presenting these topics with such care and tact.
You're a season out in a few places, in Cory's section it wasn't season 3 he went into rehab, it was the end of season 4 & the cast pulled him in for an intervention & persuaded him to go, ensuring him his job would be secure. It was season 5, not season 4, that they aired the quarterback episode.
Its really heartbreaking that Cory, Naya and Melissa had to suffer so much while being the kindest people 😢😢 I learned about what happened to Naya 4 months after, and I was literally screaming and crying, running around my apartment in actual physical pain.
Do more Glee videos. I didn’t watch Glee but the IRL stuff could be a mini series. What about the way they wrote the teachers? Very inappropriate behavior that’s normalized because it’s adults as teens.MVP
Lea Michele just got to play her dream role on Broadway. AFTER all of this controversy had already come out. It's really gross that she's been rewarded for such disgusting behavior.
All Lea did was be a diva, that's it. And all because she was going through SO much at the time, much of which people don't know about. I know her personally and it's heartbreaking to see people fall for the ridiculous allegations. Lea deserved her lead role in Funny Girl, she has another role lined up and she's not going anywhere.
I cried when I found out Naya went missing… then I cried even harder when she was found dead and the backstory to it all. Such an undeserved loss to the world.
I was just looking at Blake's Instagram and I came across a video from 2016. In the video, his nephew, I think, was doing something to him and they were playing around. Then, you just hear him yell, "GIVE IT TO ME! THIS IS MINE!" He obviously sounded like he was joking but it was very telling just how many anger management issues he had. The fact that he was so upset at Melissa that he started blaming her made NO SENSE!
i still love glee to this day and I still sob when I see the actors that died, makes me so sad, and also makes me sad what I know the actors went through while and after filming.
MVP, love your videos. This is my new favourite, closely edging out the that 70s show video. Hearing you be so direct about your personal experiences dating is so enlightening. Love and happiness.
everything I’ve ever heard about Julia Robert’s has been against my will. She sounds like an absolute nightmare. Her poor sister, may she rest in eternal peace
Hi! Amazing video, i know this must had taken a lot of work. However, Cory's role was more limited during Season 4 and he had a memorial episode during Season 5. There are some unreleased promo pictures for S5 with him in them. They had to quickly change the story of the entire season which is why they randomly gave Finn storylines to Sam (the nurse storyline particularly) and Rachel making bad decisions for her career.
I just watched the first season of glee because I had a teenage niece who was a thespian and she raved about it. Then she told me the first season was the best and don’t watch the others so I stopped. So if you got me to watch your video and I never was a glee fan ….this was a really good video! I did buy Chris Colliers book when my daughter was in fourth grade. I had no idea it was him! It was so good. He’s amazingly talented. And as always loved your cat cameos.
Honestly the first 3 seasons were great and 5b..but the first season is essentially what Ryan Murphy had in mind for glee. It was supposed to be a satire from a teacher's POV
there is no better example of how multi-faceted people are than Ryan Murphy; creator of Glee AND AMERICAN HORROR STORY. yeah, the guy that helped make Glee is the same guy that wrote Bloodyface and Kai and all of that...when i tell you my mind broke when i learned that was the same dude-
Wow I am shocked by Nancy’s story. I had never heard of it before this video and it really made me see Julia Roberts differently. Great video as usual Ash!!! Can’t wait for your next one!
I already knew most of what you talked about in this video as I was a big glee fan throughout the whole show, but this was still really interesting to watch. The stuff with people shipping Chris and Darren was beyond insanity. I had so many arguments with those people, most of them were straight women that were simply convinced and obsessed that they were together in real life, for absolutely no reason other than they just couldn't separate tv and real life. They said disgusting things about both Will (Chris' bf) and Mia (Darren's now wife) sometimes in person within their earshot, not just online. People would literally try to claim there was "evidence" of their relationship based on the fact that they would both wear blue tshirts and shit like that. They would actually claim that Darren couldn't possibly be straight because he was a musical theatre kid and painted his nails. It was insane and it pissed me off on behalf of these great actors who were just doing their jobs and trying to live their lives, and their poor partners that had done nothing to deserve the hate they got. And yet we never knew just how far it had gone, Chris had never really talked about it in detail until that podcast recently which you showed in your video, about people trying to get Will fired and sending things to his family. Considering how they used to hate Mia even more than Will I can only imagine what she went through, it's no wonder they both have kept their social medias private even until now. I hope those people feel ashamed of themselves for their behavior now, but probably there's still some delusional ones who think they're still right.

He had such an amazing vibe. So glad you confirmed this😍💛
So sorry for your loss.

@@coffeeandcults he was a real Canadian through and through.
I remember seeing that tattoo in HYBRID and it being “blurred” during the pilot and scenes where he was sleeveless. I knew it was a dumb tattoo but for him it was sort of cute.
Love ur anecdote about Cory, but I have to ask how was Ryan Murphy? Especially since he directed the pilot
tattoo was at the botton of the bad choices he made..
It's utterly insane to me how dark the legacy of this show ended up being.

Cory had inner demons he fought basically from the day he was born. He could be terrible to the people in his life but he was so warm and genuine (when sober) that it was difficult to stay mad.

Thanks for sharing your story, a couple of people have shared stories about Cory & I know some people who worked with him, I’ve heard nothing but wonderful things, seemed like such a great guy.
OMG! THATS TELLING ABOUT WHAT KIND OF AMAZING PERSON COREY IS!!!!

I mean... It's not that easy being green.
Thank you for sharing your memories and insights. I’m sincerely sad for the pain he suffered in life and hope his soul is resting in peace.
I trust you. He had that good energy and you can never say that he is bad guy.
Thank you for sharing, I've never heard a bad word about him, seemed like a great guy
You know the saying “only the good die young”? It oftentimes seems to be the case, Corey is a perfect example. It felt tragic but inevitable. So sad.
Sorry. God bless you all.
random note, but I met Amber Riley at a theatre camp in high school and she was lovely & kind! such a special moment for me as a teenage Glee fan
That’s so nice to hear! She comes across really nice in interviews. Thanks for sharing & watching!

Imagine being Julia Robert’s and having everything you could ever want, and taking your production assistant sisters estate away from her fiancé. That is gross.

As someone who is a little older and lived through a time when you had to wait each week to watch an episode, I’ve never heard it referred to the way she did. Being able to binge now is great but having to wait and watch everything with your friends once a week was a feeling you can’t explain! We had so much fun.

She said " Appointment episodes" that sparked "water-cooler" talk.
There are still a lot of shows like this on cable...

"People thought his lenient sentence meant he was gonna snitch." Or, hear me out... he got off easy because he was rich and famous
Rich, famous, white, and male.

Yeah I remember that. I saw a predominant DCTV UA-camr trolling her fans on Twitter when they tried to defend her against the cheating allegations.

Opposites attract, it happens more often than you think.

As a choir nerd, growing up in a very competitive region of North Texas, I loved Glee!

To your point, Lea Michelle did reach superstardom to some degree. She went on to star in Broadway's Funny Girl last year, which was a HUGE deal in theater. There was so much drama with that story, not directly Lea's fault, but drama surrounding her casting nonetheless. It was juicy.
It seems like there is always some sort of drama surrounding her
Her career would be so much bigger if not for her reputation.
Thank you for sharing, it definitely seems as though it is a constant pattern
Ryan Murphy is notorious for hiring the same actors on his different shows - I have not seen the Glee cast showing up in his current projects -but I could be wrong !
@@DrewKelleyTidwellhe hired Lea Michelle for Scream Queens but I don't know about the others.
I was absolutely devastated when Cory died.
I think the whole world was...
i did too i grew up on this show i watched the moment it came out when i was about 8-9 years old and i cried when i found out about cory
I'm glad you're clean. Keep up, you're doing good!
The cast member who died on the show King's Castle was actually legendary Red Fox and it was his show. His name deserves a mention.
Yes! Red foxx was well loved and is considered a comedy legend!
now that Chris Colfer's Rose's turn version is trending in tiktok i need to watch Glee all over again!!
Well, even the way his friends and colleagues spoke about Cory just shows he was so sweet. I wish he was still here ❤
I can’t help but love Chris Colfer!! He’s the BEST!!
I happened to watch this on his birthday!
I really like Glee especially the first season. I'm surprised to see so many people here say they hated it.
I like the Glee Projects shows
Glee did more harm than good imo
Chris Colfer being the only one in the thumbnail to not be either dead or have any huge scandals is taking me out 💀
I loved Glee.
@@elizabethm8982Yes! Thank you.
@@elizabethm8982👏👏👏 thank you for this comment.
I feel like Glee's legacy is starting to be similar to one of That 70s Show, but on a bigger scale...
So much sadness. My heart goes out to the little boy who lost his mom.
MVP! It never fails to stun me how dark the backstory to such a cheerful and uplifting show can be!
Thank you so much for watching lovely!
Thank you so much for watching & your lovely comment! Very much appreciated! Lots of new videos coming soon :)

Both Melissa and her character received so much unwarranted hate, and I am here for people finally giving her story the attention it deserves. it's really sweet of you to take the time to say such nice things about cory.
i think that explaining away the tragedies that have surrounded glee as a curse is harmful because it takes away the focus on how we can hold those responsible accountable and try to prevent more tragedy in the future. saying that glee is cursed removes the blame from people who CHOSE to do awful and irresponsible things, and it takes away the drive to make changes in the industry.
I didn’t know about the Julia Roberts/Nancy Motes situation. I feel so bad for Nancy and her fiance 😢
Never watched glee

Just started watching, really hoping Dianna doesn’t show up for anything bad 😭 she’s honestly the one part of the show I liked
The only strange thing I remember about her was she wasn’t present in the tribute episode to Cory.
But I have never found that fair for people to speculate as to why ❤
@mariella2884 she also wore a "likes girls" shirt during a Glee Live concert which was a huge controversy at the time
Bisexual queen Diana Agron? Never! I do crazy amounts about her as she hasn't done anything awful (that I know about) but I do like her a lot
I heard a rumor before that lea and ryan didn't like diana at all
I identify so much with Cory and his death really resonated with me.
Love your content. The pacing, the writing, the edits... there's obviously a lot of time and effort involved in this channel, and it shows.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate the kind words! Thanks for watching
MVP! No but for real, this is a very well researched and respectful coverage of some very tragic and dark stories. Thank you for presenting these topics with such care and tact.
Fun fact: You're addendum being added at 0352 in the morning is being watched at 0356 in the morning 😅
You're a season out in a few places, in Cory's section it wasn't season 3 he went into rehab, it was the end of season 4 & the cast pulled him in for an intervention & persuaded him to go, ensuring him his job would be secure. It was season 5, not season 4, that they aired the quarterback episode.
So crazy how we came here for Glee and learned some believeble things about a cruel Julia Roberts.
i’m sorry the way everyone on the thumbnail is either dead or problematic then there’s just Chris Colfer 😂
