    I recommend the SP05 vacuum sealer. They work great.

    Why are you compelled to pick it up and tilt it hither and yon? I have one and I just keep it flat on the table. Moving your camera to see the timer wouldn't disturb the lid. Until you stop the vacuum process, I think gravity is the only thing keeping the lid in place. Once the suction, out of the jar and past the lid, ends, at that point atmospheric pressure pushes down on the lid to hold it in place indefinitely and keeps the atmosphere from reentering the jar. Early on, when the thing shut off, but the lid was still loose, I think it was because you actually allowed the lid to get up against the suction hole. The machine thought that it had produced enough vacuum, but you had only blocked off its suction port. When you didn't move it as much the lid either stayed in place or was able to FALL back into place when you quit foolin' with it. I don't think that the problem is with the lids.
    My own experience with this gadget and the FoodSaver attachment has taught me that the level of powered products has to be kept very low in the jar. All through the sealing process you were shaking the jar of starch around and that cloud off dust just goes past the lid and clogs up the device's pump. Even if it doesn't clog the pump, all that dust gets on the rim of the jar and prevents a seal. On those jars, I recommend leaving powder levels down around the top of the "B" in Ball and just leave the thing flat on the table, NO SHAKING.
    On that second attempt, the pump may have gotten stuck to the jar because the vent that lets air back into the pump got plugged up from the starch and caused the pump itself to become the "lid" so to speak. As I said, powders are problematic and require extra caution.
    I think you should take my suggestions (provided you haven't already gummed it up with that starch) and try again. It is a really handy gadget IMO, for nuts, pasta, leftover pasta sauce in the fridge, beef jerky, popcorn and stuff like that. Thank you for taking the time to make your content. I'm a huge YT content consumer.

      I actually make that comment in the video, but the jar sealed. Several lids have popped off. While the idea is great, this model needs work. Thanks for watching.

      Hi friend! I know you didn't mean for this video to be comedic but it made me laugh. I also have the food saver and hose attachment for sealing jars but my mom recently asked if I thought I would like one of these (may have been a different brand). I declined because I'm trying in earnest not to have and store duplicate items. Thanks for being an open book!

      Would you admit that you didn't give this particular unit a fair chance because you made several mistakes, and would you be willing to put a new unit to task, now that you know those mistakes? I think you'll get better results.@@KowalskiMountain

      @@mrhalfstepI’m certainly not opposing to trying a different unit. However I have given this unit a fair chance. I actually said in my video at one time that I wondered if the jars weren’t sealing because I was moving them but then the next jar sealed.The instructions don’t give any information regarding this.
      Regardless, the unit didn’t work as expected. I was very excited to give it a try, as I had planned to purchase one. However, the jars that did seal have not all remained sealed. I certainly wouldn’t trust my food to remain safe with this system.

    Thank you for doing such an open and honest review. So many different ones around that look the same, to sure how to tell if one os better than another!

      PS did they ask for feedback from you or did the company offer any answers to the issues?

      It is! I was disappointed because I really wanted it to work! Thanks for watching

      @simplysourdough5444 They contacted me to ask if I’d like to try it and sent me the unit. Since then I’ve only heard from them once, asking me to promote the product. However I can’t in good conscience recommend it. I had one viewer suggest that my moving the unit caused the problem. Which I actually state in the video, but not moving it did not increase seal rate.

    I have one and used it 😮the first time with no instructions on a widemouth jar, and it worked fine. She shook the powder substance around in the jar and then tried to seal it while shaking.??? Place your jar on the counter, put the lid on, and press the button. it works much better when you’re not moving the jar around.

    • @KowalskiMountain
      @KowalskiMountain  Місяць тому

      That’s been a common thought. Though I didn’t find it work much better without movement.

    Quit moving it around before it’s done. It’s making me nuts.

    Spoon method for opening lids? Please elaborate! I’ve never heard of this method before.

    • @KowalskiMountain
      @KowalskiMountain  6 місяців тому +1

      I use a spoon or butter knife and put it between the bottom of the metal lid and the glass threads of the jar. Choose the glass thread closest to the lid. Then use leverage pushing the lid off my pressing the spoon against the glass thread. The lid will push off, saving your fingers. I demonstrate it in this video. ua-cam.com/video/f8yC1w7iEkM/v-deo.htmlsi=N8VWWOeStL3uGTRK

    I have one. I don't think it's the same brand. Key is to push it straight down to attach and straight up (no twisting) to pull it off.

    You most likely figure out the two different sizes. Lg & small. Taking one size off from the main cap.

    Can you rate your other vacuum sealer to see how it compares??

    • @KowalskiMountain
      @KowalskiMountain  6 місяців тому +2

      Other than a Food Saver vacuum sealer, I’ve not tried any other. The full size one works well and I’ve never had failed seals. Some of the jars have been sealed for several years. Even since publishing this video, more of the jars that sealed in this video have failed.
