@@THEWINDTUNNELthe Williams FW38 from Bottas when hearing W11 from Hamilton closing in on Porsche Curve: (Colorful Dreams Colorful Smiles starts playing before gets louder as the gaps getting closer).
Part of the reason the W11 was so quick, was because, although, they weren’t great in a straight line, they were lightning quick in any corner, this basically did the same thing, just more dramatic.
Williams have been struggling to keep up with aero development in the last few years, so they tend to run low drag designs to maximise top speed instead. Combine that with the god tier 2016 Mercedes engine and this is the result
The only problem is that the 2014-16 cars were weakers in engine power than the 2017-21 cars. W11 is much powerful than fw38 and fw38 reached that speed with opened drs. So if you want a correct simulation then add drs to both and same setups because I think the track was baku or monza where fw38 reached that speed. _The big difference between 2014-2016 cars to now is that current cars aim more at acceleration off corners with better aero instead of extreme top speed, you could see at turn 3 just how quickly the W11 accelerated in comparison to the Williams._
This is completely wrong. The williams does not have a top speed of 380. It achieved that while being behind 2 other cars that had DRS and it slip streamed behind them. On it's own, no car from the 2014-2016 era ever surpassed 360kph. Meanwhile the W11 in low drag trim and DRS should be able to do 345kph. Without the DRS it will still do 330. The car in this video is more like a car with medium-high downforce trim. If you take a Monaco downforce trim car to Monza, you're going to suffer. In reality, the w11 would have been passed on the straight, and then immediately slipped behind the Williams, gaining speed from the slip stream. Meanwhile the Williams will slow down as there's no one punching a hole in the air for it anymore, so the topspeed difference would be more like within 10kph and not 26kph. The slip stream effect will help the W11 to go higher than its normal top speed, and by the time they get into the next corner the W11 will not be that far behind.
2020 and 2021 F1 Cars are still SO MUCH BETTER. They may have 18kph less top speed than 2014 to 2016 one, but they have higher downforce like X2010 and X2011 Prototype.
I do not believe this simulation was done correctly. There was a 3 year old kid sitting in F38 vs the best AI in W11. Please do a correct simulation and show again. Thanks
3-year-old kid? I'm sure Valtteri Bottas won't appreciate that. The W11 is a whopping 6.5 seconds faster at Spa than the FW38. While the long straights may give the FW38 a fighting chance, it's still not quite enough
@@THEWINDTUNNEL They would expect to use DRS at a circuit like this, otherwise it defeats the point of using the fastest straight line F1 car. Pretty likely it's going to do closer to 240mph given this amount of room on a quali profile sprint lap. Plus the huge tow that is clearly available even in this video for the Williams. They're both near 200mph where the first chicane normally is already when they're close together
Maybe with the MB equivalent of the FW38 the win could have been at hand. The W11 was not an equivalent, it was the last evolution. Still, I rooted for the Williams 'til I could, so 'til Porsche curves.
Just Bullshit! The Williams does not take advantage of the slipstream before overtaking the Mercedes, but after passing it, the Mercedes does of course take advantage of the Williams withour any hesitation! Needless to say that it wasn't perfect driving before the Mulsanne straight by the Williams driver (in fact, serious driving error) which had been the reason for the Mercedes being in front of the Williams in the first place.
5 years of engine development and just a 10 HP difference? Without DRS and too many braking zones to recharge the battery the top speeds might not be that impressive, still I would suggest you to run these cars with less downforce to see what top speeds they actually can achieve.

Yep
Because the cars got wider in 2017, wich allowed wider wings but increase drag.
