Great video Ben, so good to see how Shanghai has progressed yet kept it's historical flavour. I spent a week in the city in 2010, visited the World Expo and saw some sights of the city. Took the maglev from the airport then a taxi to the hotel, it included the circular road next to the river bridge. The metro is excellent, like the newer sections of London's underground, at the time stations and sections of track were opening almost daily, the Chinese have clear ideas and priorities on how to move forwards. Yet, there were gaps, the toilets in the department store didn't have any paper (bring your own) and the water for washing hands (no soap provided) was in a communal area for men & women. Language was a problem, no online translations, thankfully bilingual signage helped. I have a beard, the women were facinated as Chinese men do not grow much facial hair. Never been touched so much by lovey young ladies (but haven't a clue what they were saying!!) .. my wife was happy to watch. Katarina seems to be enjoying the trip too, you make a good couple vlogging together.
You spend less than the locals, you are so frugal! Spend a little more in China and you will have a better experience. Shanghai is a city with high consumption. 15 yuan cutting+ 5 yuan for shampooing is the minimum consumption. A haircut for Chinese people usually costs 40-50 yuan. 😂

@@tiaoyi-bx5yi That's why it's precious. Modern Shanghai is great, but its boring. The modernity exist to serve functions of the society, which takes away its Character. I’m glad that you’ve an amazing journey in China! Everyone in China treated you nice! No one shout at you and ask you to go back to your country, you’re lucky. I don’t understand why when Chinese people go to other country like America, Canada or UK, some of the local people treated Chinese impolitely and kind of hate them. Of course most of the foreigners are nice.
When you said the trains in UK have crackheads, I imagined that the future depicted in Deus Ex becomes more real with every day, the only way we get security in EU is if the police come back in numbers, patrolling train stations, trains. Just having the presence alone helps in protecting the peace of citizens and maybe also prevent people from throwing trash on the ground. Also, my guess was right Lord Byron is George Byron, everyone knows the famous poet. That being said, not remembering anything I read back in the day, but we had some book of his (translation).
3 dollar hair cuts 20 dollar hotels. American hair cuts are no less then 20 for a semple buzz cut and the cheapest hotels are no less then 65 a night and that’s for a ghetto trap house motel
That fake English town is amazing! As for Byron, he's one of England's most famous poets, and travelled a lot in the Mediterranean region. He even took part in the Greek war of independence. Didn't you learn about him in school?
Great video thanks as always for sharing. However, power user tip, get some ear plugs for better nights sleep. Also pick up some melatonin gummies on your trips abroad.
@渡海-q2w You need to sum up your geography lessons from school. The Himalayas were created because of the smash between Eurasian and Indian plate. It has nothing to do with India and China. Moreover both of the countries had a glorious history and China only modernized after 1980. On top of that, there are countries like Nepal, Bhutan which are in no way bad than China. Most importantly all of India doesn't look like Delhi, Varanasi, Calcutta which Ben cherry picked to instill a negative impression. Watch the videos of other dozens of western youtube travel vloggers except Bald and Ben who are dishonest with their videos being called off by many. They showed Delhi, Varanasi, Calcutta saying entire India looks that whereas in reality it's just opposite. Northeast India looks exactly like rural China.

Back in 2005 I spent 2 months in Tianjin and Beijing, and I drove between TJ and BJ about 6 weeks into my trip, this was just before the Beijing Olympics so they were trying to beautify the areas between major cities, and there was the MOST eerie cubes of perfectly symmetrical hallways comprised of all seemingly the same 50-60 foot evergreen. They seemed like they were planted by robots and grown elsewhere. It was very strange.
Beyond that I have a million stories, I would absolutely LOVE to go back, and especially to see parts I didn't get to like Chongqing... Thank you Ben! If you're still there, you MUST TRY YANG-RO! It's slow roasted mutton cubes on kebabs, and usually they sell spicy fresh bread rolls along with them. I ate it probably once a day 6 days a week when I was there...
Dunno Lord Byron? Probably the most famous British poet. I'm sure you must have heard of him.
Great video Ben & Kat. Loves it.
Ben, I must have commented this on a few videos now. You're always complaining about noise etc (understandably) - get yourself a pack of them soft ear plugs you can sleep in. Like a fiver for about 100 pairs. Wear them to sleep in and you won't hear fuck all - great for sleeper trains, apartments etc.
He may be using them but refuses to lose the incessant moaning that is his trademark.
@@moonskyrocket Better than the droves of fake travel vloggers who pretend they're living in a fairy tale. Being brutally honest and moaning when he feels like it makes him more relatable - he's only human after all.
or just buy a box of swan filters
The moaning doesn't bother me. At least he is showing these weird little hotels and stuff and being himself rather than just doing rich people things and having zero personality.
Plenty of BPB moaning on this one. Kat saves the day 😂
Ben those are Tudor not Victorian style buildings you're off by about 3 centuries
Another Awesome Adventure Thank You Ben & Kat love Katrina's two Panda Bears in her hair very cute Safe Travels 🙂💙👍Big Thanks to Matt for showing You around. 🙂💙👍
I am always so excited for your and Kat's videos! 💛💚❤ Thank you so much for a great content!
That train is insane. I took it in the other direction and I was so shocked how quickly I was in Beijing.
You can also go to a Russian region in China, and there's Macau, the Chinese-Portuguese city.
I just love you two together ❤ I love your journey 😊❤
Besides Byron. He doesn't know what a shrimp is. Quite the world traveler. Lol
Ben, you are an absolute gentleman. Kat should be in the videos more, she's a ball of sunshine :)
Missing a Wetherspoon's, a fish and chip shop, a pub and drunken yobs fighting in the street.
But it had the rain .... 😂
dammit, missing all the "best" parts. 😂
also the roadmen and homeless
@@sniprsprimordium5625 你以为中国是美国?
Awesome journey, thanks to that bloke for helping u guys. God Bless him.
3 dollar hair cuts 20 dollar hotels. American hair cuts are no less then 20 for a semple buzz cut and the cheapest hotels are no less then 65 a night and that’s for a ghetto trap house motel
Top video Kat & Ben! Happy you finally enjoyed a succulent Chinese meal, without hands on your ... 😉👍🇦🇺
It behooves one to learn the Chinese language if one is to thoroughly enjoy Chinese hospitality.
That fake English town is amazing! As for Byron, he's one of England's most famous poets, and travelled a lot in the Mediterranean region. He even took part in the Greek war of independence. Didn't you learn about him in school?
Trains in germany are the worst in whole europe. Always delayed and slow as hell. The only speedtrain we have is between two cities 😂
Omg! Bout spit my coffee when u were in the fake phone booth. Diddy outa oil!😂😂😂
love kats accent
Love watching these guys in a little bit of pain 😅
I need to move to Thames Town ....all of us Brits need to do this ....
No, please don't ruin it.
Great video thanks as always for sharing. However, power user tip, get some ear plugs for better nights sleep. Also pick up some melatonin gummies on your trips abroad.
The difference between Indian and Chinese trains…..Even though they are neighbours
separated by the worlds largest mountain range for a reason xD
@渡海-q2w
You need to sum up your geography lessons from school.
Ben's vlogs on Indian trains were actually biased.
He deliberately chose to go in the lowest class.
separate by natural barriers.
@HomiParsa-j7x He's not ignorant. I don't think you know what natural barrier means.
Hi Ben what camera you used for doing video, can you give camera or link 🔗 name please, thanks
Been Shanghai a few times, the train is supersonic!!!
They always exaggerate the typhoons in China, just a typical cold rainy night in Stoke
ICE can go 300km/h in Germany but only between Cologne and Frankfurt.
and a lot of delays
Ben..I really like your videos..but was quite shocked to hear that you apparently had no idea about Byron..!! Really shocked.
